  1. I want to see the double-bottom drip pan for that bad boy! ;)

And forget lift-gate delivery, that beast needs to arrive on a Moffet truck(a Moffet is a 3-wheel all-terrain fork lift if you're not in the construction business).

Just one suggestion: Center the logo in the plate with one space between Komodo and Kamado, having it justified to the outside looks a little goofy to me. Take that with a grain of salt, I've been told that all my taste is in my mouth.

Looks like one helluva cooker! Congrats, Dennis, you've outdone yourself!

  2. I've used the FiAir for the first two cooks on my 22 after lighting with a MAPP torch. I like it!  I don't have any outlets on the patio so using a heat gun or hair dryer means dragging out a cord and rolling it up afterwards. It's so nice to be able to just grab something, walk outside and use it, walk back in and put it away.

    Thanks for the post, Dennis.

I don't inject my briskets. Thanks everyone for the kind words!

    God bless you, @mk1 !

I think there's a special circle in Hell reserved just for those who inject Wagyu briskets! If not, there should be.

  5. I was out today re-arranging the grills on the patio to find a good spot for my new KK and realized I now have 4 grills:  A Weber Genesis stainless with the side cabinets, a Weber Summit Charcoal, a PK Grill and, of course, the new KK 22. Each one has a special quality that makes me think I'll never get rid of any of them. The PK is the quick-grilling master of Saturday Night Burgers and reverse-searing steaks, 20 minutes and it's ready to go. The gasser totes the load of warming leftovers from the other cookers, the SCGC is large enough to cook a lot of food when the whole family is over and the KK will replace the Summit for smoking and those occasions when I just want to take the time to sit back and smell the smoke.

This all started 36 years ago when we moved out of the apartment into our first house and I brought home a cheap Hibachi from K-Mart. I don't know how many grills and smokers I've been through since then but I think I'm down to my Final 4.

I know this is a KK forum but I was just curious about any other grills/cookers/smokers any of you use besides the KK and why?

  6. Honestly, I couldn't live without the Genesis, it does the day-to-day work of re-heating leftovers. I guess I could do it in the oven but then where would I store all the stuff packed in the side cabinets? I just did some quick measurements, the side cabinet doors are the same size as the ones on the Genesis so I just got off the phone with Weber and ordered two stainless doors. That should help appearance-wise. I never liked those black doors anyway.

Not in the picture is my PK, love that grill!

Believe me when I say....that shot is just a started. . . Have you heard the saying "drink you under the table " ?it's 5'0clock somewhere

So nobody's asked the most important question: What's in those shot glasses? ;)

    Cheers!

  8. I got the double-bottom drip pan as an accessory with my 22 and it came with a heat deflector as well. Do those of you with the drip pan put it on top of the deflector or just leave the deflector out?

I can see where the deflector provides some thermal mass but thermal mass seems to be the last thing this cooker is lacking anyway. Would the deflector maybe help in keeping the drip pan at a lower temp so the drippings wouldn't cook out and turn to carbon?

My Summit Charcoal has a double-wall deflector but if I don't space the drip pans up with a cooling rack all my drippings just go up in smoke. The top of that deflector gets HOT!

    Thanks for your insights!

  9. Well, it's home and finally sitting on the patio. After spending the day getting it unpacked and hauled into place I've had enough facetime with it to know it definitely isn't a "Coyote".

I may name it someday, until then it's just my Komodo.  Apologies for the anticlimax and thanks to all who replied. I guess I'm back where I started.

But I could drag a chair outside and spend an hour or two just looking at it, Dennis really has created the ultimate functional work of art!

  10. Tony, you're closer to the border than I am by a long shot! I'll be happy to do my part though. ;)

I remmeber when I bought my printer from Epson, it didn't work and they sent me a bax to ship it in and it had two shipping labels inside. I though they were duplicates, paid no attention. I grabbed the first label that came to hand, slapped it on the box and hauled the box over to PS. A couple months later I got an invoice from Canadian Customs for $40 or so, turns out I had put the Epson CA label on and never noticed. Why Epson USA would send me a return label for Epson CA is beyond me, but they did. And I shipped it there!

That's OK, if the election goes South I'm going to tell people I'm Canadian anyway. ;) I paid my forty bucks, I must be at least part Canadian, right?

  11. Oh, you are so missing out! I guess getting next-day deliveries across the border is a no-go?

If I ever head up your way I'll definitely bring you some! And I would love to do a photo trip to Nova Scotia, it's on my bucket list.

Gorgeous, and with all those pixs no worry about the chip kicking in and turning it into a single gasser. You must be absolutely thrilled. I'm looking forward to the first smoke. :) :smt023:smt023 :drinkers: :smt038

Thanks, I AM thrilled! It'll be a bit before I can smoke anything, I have a photog's pass to the Wings Over North Georgia airshow this weekend and I work too much to do one during the week. :(

I might just skip Sunday and get the cooker dialed in, maybe smoke a pork butt. But the first real smoke is definitely going to be the Aukashi brisket from Heritage Foods that's been sitting in the freezer whispering "Cook me."

    Bill
