I was told I was crazy but I think goat is better than lamb and anyway you can make lamb, goat can be substituted! Lucky for me here in upstate NY there are a few goat producers and few online too. Garvin

Outside of my grandpa's curry goat and my goat chops haven't done much goat although I plan to change that this year. A young kid goat would be idea for my first big cook on the KK this summer. Garvin

What breed are you raising? Cali's, New Zealand's, Rex etc. Have thought about raising a couple of does, with one buck and should give me enough protein supplement for the year! Garvin

I was watching The Golden Child last night and I thought what a good name for HalfSmoke's KK, or since you are eating better Golden Harvest sounds good also! Garvin

I have a small container garden that I started three years ago, and am getting better with the produce I get now. I also compost most everything that can be compost, all junk mail is put in the compost bin the ink we use nowadays is veggie oil with food coloring so not harmful, egg shells ,coffee, tea bags, etc. My actual trash is so small it goes to the curb every two weeks instead of every week. Our city has an great recycling program and they sell for cheap compost soil to help promote healthy lawns that don't require a lot of rain to survive the summer. My goal this year is to grow 60% of my produce and get about 7 backyard chickens for eggs and to add their waste to my compost bid. Goal make my foot print smaller!!!!!!! Garvin

Thanks for responding to the question, I asked because sometimes that is what available to the user for many reasons. Example you run out of lump and go the nearest box store and all they have is KBB or Stubbs etc. Good to know if in a pinch using some will not be harmful to the KK. Garvin

Can you use KBB or Stubbs charcoal in the KK? Not that you would personally but can it be used!? Garvin

So I told a friend at work about the local Farmer's Market and how I get some special ingredients there that I would not get other places, especially eggs. So yesterday that conversation came up again I asked her if she went yet and she said yes last Saturday, so what do you think and her reply was over priced and didn't think you can feed a family her size by shopping there. She asked why would I pay 4.00 for a dozen eggs and the meat prices were crazy. Explained again that the farmers market isn't a place to shop for a weeks worth of food, it's a place to get some local and fresh ingredients, hormone free meats etc. And unless you just have it like that going grocery shopping at one makes little sense. I told her outside of me getting chickens for the backyard and in Troy you can have backyard chickens up to 7, that is the only place where free range chicken eggs I would consider buying from. She also stated that paying nine or ten dollars lb for meat was crazy, well I said these local farmers are not your local supermarket where they buy in bulk to give you a some what fair price and she should consider going back to revaluate. The response to the last part about going back to was met with no and I would tell friends don't even go there, took a couple of deep breathes and said while she had to the right to feel that way about her shopping there it was wrong of her to say that no one she knew should even consider it. Am I wrong to think this way? Garvin

I found the photo funny because of the caption contains no nuts, I just turned 8 right before the summer games and when he won remembering my dad saying he was the greatest athlete of that time. I can still say at that time he was the greatest athlete and he can still be your boyhood hero because at that time you were a boy and he was the greatest male athlete. Michael Jackson has an well just a history that some believe and some don't, but I can still listen to his music because that's were the genius was, not the man himself! Garvin

That 42 KK is a beast for sure! Can't wait to see the finish product. Garvin
-
Well I do remember asking what's next and you stating that the rules don't apply-LOL Get that and the 32 KK and you can ship me the 23 KK since well you really wouldn't need it anymore Garvin
-
Based on how Dennis constructed this and with how the grates can be manipulated you can cook very small, small, medium, large, extra large etc. You could have just this one KK and cook for yourself or multiple people. Congrats! Garvin P.S. Based on my above comment you don't need your 23 KK anymore so box it up and I will pay for shipping to my house

I see that Yakatori table in your future like the one in the video I posted on the Guru!

Age has it's privileges-LOL

So I don't think anyone here is disappointed with their KK, and know from just reading thru the posts that I will be truly satisfied with my purchase. My question is what' next for you in charcoal or gas grilling/smoking I would be pretty sure this question has been asked but it can not be a KK or ceramic cooker, what would be your next cooker? For me after I got my KK I would lean towards a Weber Summit Charcoal Grill or the hybrid American Muscle Grill! Garvin Remember can't be another KK or Ceramic cooker

Wok cooking!? Accessory for wok cooking
Garvinque replied to Garvinque's topic in KK Features & Accessories
You should check out Wok Shop they have very good prices and their woks go from 12 to 22 inches in size and a ton of add-ons! As you can see from the photo above the ci wok has the same handles you describe about yours. I love the carbon steel over the ci wok it has a long handle, but the ci wok was only 15 bucks. -
Wok cooking!? Accessory for wok cooking

No your right about the merits of using a KK for wok cooking, just thinking outside the box. In reality I have a way to wok outside but when I saw that video that's where most of this thought came from. I put in the CI from Wok Shop because I once had a lodge cast iron wok and found it to be too heavy and give it away to a friend. Found the Wok Shop online and got me an carbon steel and that ci wok, I will try and post a side by side picture tonight. My dad always told me son you think to much-lol Charles I trust your opinion and that is one of the reasons I want to spend the money on a KK. Funny how we never seen each other in person but I can form an opinion on you based on your thought out posts both here and the guru so for me no worries! Garvin P.S. How is a SS wok, my thoughts would have been to avoid SS for high heat cooking? -
Wok cooking!? Accessory for wok cooking
Garvinque replied to Garvinque's topic in KK Features & Accessories
You ladies and gentlemen's have the experience with the KK, just thought it would be fun to be able wok cook without any specialized equipment. My brain keeps going back to the Chinese didn't have gas as a fuel way back and managed to make something work maybe not a Kamando but something with an open flame. Don't kill me but how about a metal tube that covers the area where your charcoal basket would sit and allows the charcoal basket to be raised up the second grate level Also the Wok Shop makes a super thin cast iron wok about the same thickness as their carbon steel versions. -
There is no doubt about that!! Love this site-
