  1. Ok I give up, what is this for ? (Ready and waiting to be told something blindingly obvious).... thanks,
  2. Ok thanks, they’re the sort of tips I’m after.
  3. G’day all, although im a new owner of a KK, I’ve decided to attempt a brisket and 4 sets of short ribs this Sunday for mother’s day. I hope I’m not biting off more than I can chew ... Is there anything I should know about cooking on 2 levels. Brisket and short ribs appear to cook for about the same time and temps similar - ribs a little higher, so I thought that should be ideal on 2 levels (it sure won’t all fit on one - I have the 23” not one of the small house KKs !!) Thermometers at the ready of course ! Thanks
  4. Choc cherry stout ! Oh boy, you got me there. Delish
  5. Ok gotcha - thanks all ! Top tips.
  6. Aaaaargh ! I took that plate off to remove the lid when I moved it and a mate and I spent ages stuffing around with a normal Allen key ! The power of knowledge !!
  7. Dinner done ! Not quite long enough for the lamb but super impressed with the flavour ! Roast potatoes were a new benchmark, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside ! i don’t think I put enough charcoal in the basket for the cook, as I had to top up, and I couldn’t get past 250C (not that I needed to - but was seeing if I could). I assume to get high temps it’s more of activity with a well lit (spread) basket of charcoal. I’m using the mallee charcoal - which I love the taste of.
  8. Question for the room. Being a newbie there’s only one thing From the Box I’m confused by. There’s a stainless steel T-shaped rod about 30cm long with an Allen key on the end. I haven’t figured out what it’s for. Any tips appreciated !!! Thanks !
  9. Thanks yes I´m like a pig in .... his pen ! So happy, the rain can´t beat me and the back is even feeling good ! Must be KK.Karma !
  10. Hmmmm, I´m cooking in the rain ! But not planning on getting burn in hot, will also bring it undercover when I get to the roasting potatoes part of the program ! Hopefully will coincide with the rain moving along.
  11. Thanks for all the advice. First cook underway / a couple of lamb shoulders and a single rack of baby back ribs just for the hell of it. Half way and finding it incredibly easy to manipulate temperature around that 225F figure - don´t know why I´m surprised really ! Just 4 more hours ! I started it this morning by putting 1 large piece of lump on by gas ring on the inside stove for about 5 minutes. Then transported it to the KK and nestled it in the middle of a big basket of coals. Then took the family hairdryer and let it rip for another 5 minutes before shutting it up and letting it do its thing, vents fully open on the bottom and top. 15 minutes later 250F .... easy. In future though I don´t really want to be transporting coals and hairdryers and I think the electric jobby at $65 sounds pretty easy. Has a switch so you can just blow after you have a couple of coals roasting. Time to go shopping ! Thanks for the tips.
  12. Here it is - as yet unnamed - was Voltarin a dragon ? Should have been.
  13. Hi All, i got a 23” KK in the same delivery with Bonfire. Had a bit of a mare getting it up 3 awkward stairs, but no damage thankfully, although I’m on Napraxon for a week I expect having done my back in trying to move it ! Life’s like that. Simple question to start, any idea where to get a Flaming Coals Electric Charcoal Starter Wand in Perth ? I can only find looflighters - and I’m told the others are better - any tips appreciated Steve
