  1. "Hey Primeats, would your local codes allow for placing the drill in a seperate bucket with a hole cut in it? Someone in another forum suggested that."

I was thinking of a flexible drive that could be attached to a Dremmel up and out of the way. If you don't over do it you should be able to remove most of the solid fat chunks...I think!

Man, you must have a much more serious Dremmel tool than mine. That hunk of SS looks around 4" diameter and close to 1/4" thick. My Dremmel would give up looking at that...hehe. But the extension sounds good.

  2. Yup, remove the four screws to access the 9v. It is however a lithium and it is only for monitoring if the ac power source fails. It should not need replacing for a long time.

I also use lithium cells in the remote and have never had an issue arising from leaving them installed. Of course I do use it often, so that should be taken into account.

The clip is flimsy, but that also allows you to bend it around to fit tighter too. But it will not take bumping. Cell phone case would be a better idea is the belt clip is desired.

Wish there was a way to adjust backlight timing. I have asked them for it before. Maybe they will add it to a future firmware update as they have added numerous things since the earlier versions. Finally updated mine last year. You can always check the super user menu to see if it is in your firmware version. BTW, what is their lastest....it shows during bootup?

Sounds like maybe they changed the plugs too. The probe plugs on mine are basically an S-video plug wired to two thermocouples. So two probes on one plug.

Here are some hints & tips if you need any getting started.

  3. Dude, I am sooo pissed off right now. I can't believe you didn't come to my house and pick up that grill so you could cook for me!!!! Fish tacos are my favorite. I got stuck with Firemonkey and he did not cook anything for me. I had to cook for him and let him drink my beer.....jeez....what a bad guest.

  4. I can't tell for sure from the pics, but is the air mix cover over the burner throat (bell looking area) still in place? If so, take that completely off or open it fully as you do not need it and it could be cutting off air from entering the mixing area. If you look at my pics, mine is removed.

  5. Drunk J, you are one of the reasons that we bought the Procom 4, as I looked at your comments about it several times before I pulled the trigger on it. I have health issues (Double Lumbar Fusion L4-L5, L5-S1) Since, I sleep in the basement, I hate to keep climbing the stairs to check on a unit that really does not need to be checked on! :D

Now it will be nice to just pick up the controller and take a peek while still in my jama's!

I completely agree....L4-L5 surgery here too. Absolutely number one coolest, most usefull gadget in my book too.

  6. Re: Hello from Kansas!

We just bought a Procom 4' date=' power draft controller for the smoker we currently own. [/quote']

Nice choice on the Procom4, I love mine. Now you just need a KK to simply plug it into (ports already installed).

  7. After shredding 3 every Saturday' date=' this device looks very handy! Now to find an NSF cordless drill to use in the store! As you all know, those baby's are REAL hot straight off the KK! This could save a few burned finger tips as well as the outbreak of foul language from the staff ! On a side note, most of the fat that I have noticed has been melted away during the long low and slow, as well as nearly all of the connective tissue. If any has remained it is usually in one or two large clumps and can be removed before the carnage begins with that device. Ranks high on the gadget list![/quote']

Not only cool, it beats the next closest competition on price by several thousand dollars (which is a bowl cutter or I think they call them buffalo cutters too). This is gonna be my very next project. If anyone can think of any improvements to their design, I will test them out.

Hey Primeats, would your local codes allow for placing the drill in a seperate bucket with a hole cut in it? Someone in another forum suggested that.

  8. Re: disgusting

This thing incorporates all the fat and inter-muscular connective tissue in to the pulled pork. I remove ALL of that when hand pulling. No thanks!

Gee, why don't you tell us how you really feel then?

Typically a boston butt will break apart easily when fully cooked at those muscle groups....then this device easily used. Being real, I don't think it is intended for someone breaking up one butt. Not really worth the purchase or effort unless you are doing a bunch. Though there is the cool gadget factor for those of us who like such things.

  9. Trying to post a pic in General forum' date=' but it is currently battling me. Apparently I need to wait a couple days, so coming soon...[/quote']

Yeah, you have to be registered for two days and make two posts before you can make a post with a link in it.....so your half way there.

BTW, welcome to the forum. I am FM's bud in GA who welded up the latch on your new grill (at least new to you anyway). Enjoying ceramics so far I hope?

  10. Larry, have to admit, I was pretty skeptical and nervous about possibly ruining a meal with this technique. Was glad I risked it tonight as it was an excellent steak. Noticed while rinsing off the salt that care had to be taken as the steak was close to fall apart tender already. Did 45 minutes of salting combined with blackening season and the taste was perfect while the bone in ribeye was super tender.

Been a long time since I have seen anything really different and interesting to try with with steaks. Thanks for posting it.

BTW, I really loved this explanation!! :D

  11. Re: No pressue on propane gas burner

The gas attachment on my KK is not working properly. I have a standard LP regulator and have checked the valve and adapter to make sure there is

nothing clogging it. I also went to local Lowes to get proper fitting.

The propane comes out of the burner very slow and I get a very weak flame. I have tried attaching the exact same tank with same regulator to a turkey fryer burner and I get a nice solid flame.

    Anyone had a simliar issue?

Might wanna check that there is a jet orifice installed. Should be a tiny hole at the end of the gas line, opening into the burner bell (air-gas mixing area). Otherwise you will not develop the pressure. If it is there, you may try adjustments.

Here are some pics (old ones). http://www.komodokamado.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1515

  12. I'm also a but skeptical of a v shaped damper surface.

Just to clarify, my thoughts were for a very tiny raised ridge, not necessarily a V. But the purpose was just to reduce some of the surface area contact with the gasket and same deal with the small metal ring idea. I do not see where that would damage a gasket. As far as condensation, hell the inside of my grill sweats already, so I am not worried about it dripping back in from the damper (would be nice to help keep the outside clean if it works..).

BTW, I agree with the grease buildup and high temp cooks as only my low and slow grill gets this buildup. But I have never had to hit it with a 2x4...hehe.

  13. JD' date=' are you using Tversity or PS3 Media server for streaming to your xbox?[/quote']

I used TVersity a bit before my computer crashed, now I tend to use PlayOn's local file streaming just for simplicity. To be honest, I haven't played with PlayOn to see if my WMV files are in 5.1 or not. Since I pretty much just have my legitimate DVDs that I've converted myself I'm OK with WMV format WMP requires, but if PlayOn starts acting up with Hulu again I may reinstall TVersity - TVersity's Hulu support is pretty poor quality, but seems to be a bit more reliable than PlayOn.

I mostly use PS3 Media Server now as it is extemely easy since there are no additional codec packs to install. My main use is streaming all my TV shows that I download as the DVRs get full quick and some shows are not available in my area. The nice part is I can download them in a high def format and PS3 Media Server can stream them that way. Unlike Windows Media server which can only handle H264, PS3 server can use x264 which is way more common to internet junkies.

It also handles most all of the lossless audio formats out there such as OGG/FLAC/MPC/APE.

  14. A server-based solution is great, I use my XBox 360 to playback my DVDs and music stored on a centralized server.

JD, are you using Tversity or PS3 Media server for streaming to your xbox? If not, I highly recommend either of them. Though the PS3 Media Server handles x264 high def content way easier. And either of them stream almost all video/audio/pic formats out there to the PS3 and/or Xbox 360. To me, they are much better than using media center (since it drastically reduces the formats/containers you can use on your media). Plus they are both free.

  15. DJ, the reason for the EEPROM is because the Stoker has a bus mechanism that's pretty much infinitely expandable. You can plug the fan in anywhere and use as many fans as you like, so they need to be able to be properly identified by the system before they can be recognized and addressed.

Yeah, since you brought that up, seems like I remember reading about it somewhere. Guess I did not realize it was for fans too (thought only for TC). The Stoker definitely gets major points for versatility. Just wish we could create a Stoker/Guru monster to combine the best of both worlds.

    -=Jasen=-

  16. A decent idea' date=' DJ, but I think the Stoker is a 5V system while the Guru is a 12V system so you'd need a voltage conversion for it to work properly. The Stoker uses a 1/4" plug for both fans and probes, but has a proprietary EEPROM embedded in the connector to let the Stoker know that it's a fan and to give it a serial number.[/quote']

Ah, like I said, don't have a Stoker.

As for voltage though, it would be simple enough to use a $5 radio shack 12v plug-in transformer and use the Stoker's 5v to power a relay. But did not realize the Stoker would not output that voltage unless it identifies their fan's EEPROM. So definitely not worth the trouble. But tossing around ideas is why a forum is great.
