Starter cubes are plenty cheap. That said, I've stepped up my game with a Benzomatic weed burner torch, and don't see myself using cubes very often anymore.

Stretch Goal #3 met, over $250,00 raised thus far.

I need to try PBW I've heard great things about before.

Vent issue aside, that brisket looks amazing!

I agree. This is a fantastic product concept. Fingers crossed their product delivers. Kickstarters are always a gamble by nature, but I know that going in. Hopefully their R&D was thorough and robust. Now that they have the funding the real thorny part begins as ramp up and try to go into product production. I wish them the best. Hopefully things go as planned and these first Meaters get sent out to the backers early next year. I'm looking forward to being a Guinea pig.

This is floating around on other forums. "1) If internal temperature comes close to maximum the 212F or 100C, the RF range will start to reduce and you may lose connection. We will give warning before unsafe temperatures are reached. If it is exposed to that high temperature for prolonged time, battery life cycle will start to suffer. Also remember your meat is completely ruined when it reaches 100C, it means there is no moisture left at all. It is actually very difficult to do that as the temperature tends to stall before meat becomes rock hard dry and temperature starts to rise again... 2) We have designed the product to handle flare ups. Actually motivation behind this product was when I burned cable on 2nd meat thermometer due flareups. We use high temperature ceramic material on antenna.. 3) the probe battery is designed to last several years even in active use. However due the waterproof high temperature design, it is not replaceable. 4) radio frequencies tend to pass through BBQ / Oven metal cases quite well. These will reduce the range a bit, which is why we only claim 10 meter range which is achievable with typical phone and typical BBQ. 5) warranty details are being finished. We will offer typical retail electronics product warranty, we will stand by the product. This will be published on the project FAQ soon."

They are going to hit their stretch looks like. I got in on the 4 probe 1 block pledge. I hope it pans out, this would be a great addition.

Looks as though they just passed their first stretch goal of $150,000. At this rate they'll hit all of their stretch goals.

I got in on this, looks really cool. Hopefully it works well and is durable. I have a CyberQ Wifi which is nice(especially with multiple pieces of meat) but I hate dealing with all those probe wires. So on most cooks I just use my PartyQ. Fingers crossed!

You'll love that Cobalt Blue. I have a CB POSK which looks nice.(its probably one of the few that still has 98% of its tiles) However, it's being retired. I actually have never seen a KK in person. That will change when mine arrives this week.

Hi Hogsfan. That worked well for me, I picked up that Terra Blue that you passed on. Its on the truck and should make it to my place late next week.

Yes - with the caveat being I have to wait till Tuesday to wire the $$$. However, Dennis has taken the TB KK off the website and it will soon be mine.

Already spoke to Dennis before I posted.

This has been a bit of an unexpected struggle for me. I've been wanting a KK for years and the timing was finally good so I made the decision to purchase. However, I got so tied up in knots over color choice of late that I haven't been able to pull the trigger. Well, this morning I received a photo from from Dennis of another Terra Blue. I have literally been all over the map on color choice, but the TB's have always been pretty high on my color preference list. I have decided to go with it. I am stoked!

on the fence at the moment ....

Dennis sent me a pick of the AN/Bronze tweed from side/back angles. While I still really like it, the pattern doesn't hold together like it does looking at it straight on. Which, given the shape of the cooker, makes total sense. So I decided that's not the tile pattern for me. Dennis had another buyer who really wanted that design, and was very disappointed to find out someone else had already purchased it.(Dennis was nice enough to hold it for me while I deal with bank issues) So I think someone will get a suprise call from Dennis and come away very happy knowing they're getting the tile pattern they really wanted after all. As for me, well, I only wish I could be that decisive. Hopefully I'll be able to settle on a KK color from the current container.

Low & Slow Temp Maintenance Tips Requested [32BBKK]
Gnomatic replied to Pale Rider's topic in Komodo General
That's with the top vent almost fully closed. I have the PartyQ and CyberQ Wifi, same behavior with each. On the CyberQ I usually set the fan to no more than 1/4 of the way open. Could be my cooker. I'll be interesting to experiment w/ that on the KK. -
I'm still vexed on color choice, but as of now I'm going with the Autumn Nebula/Bronze. There's too many good choices LOL.

So I attemped to take the plunge today. Went to the bank, and gave banker all the info needed. He took a while to enter everything in, and by the time he was ready to process, the transaction failed because we had gone past my bank's cutoff time for international transfers. I have to wait till Monday to try again. Argh!

Low & Slow Temp Maintenance Tips Requested [32BBKK]
Gnomatic replied to Pale Rider's topic in Komodo General
This is pretty standard on any insulated cooker. It's easy raise the temp, but if you overshoot, good luck getting it back down. I have an insulated cabinet smoker that behaves the same way. Using a BBQ Guru on the intake, if I'm aiming for a 225F smoke temp, I'll initially set the temp to 190F or 200F. The Guru will always, 100% of the time, overshoot the initial set temp 20F-30F on my cabinet smoker. So I compensate for the overshoot at the beginning of the cook. Once the Guru realizes it overshot and turns the fan completely off, I'll let it sit for 1/2 hour before slowly raising the setting on the in 5F increments every few minutesto my "real" set temp. At that point I can walk away till the meat is done. -
So ..... I've been a member here for years but rarely post. I guess I'm a lurker. I've wanted a 23" KK for a long, long while, but for a variety of reasons, the timing etc. just hasn't been quite right for me to get serious about finally purchasing one. That has recently changed. I had a couple chats with Dennis and spoke with him on the phone for a bit yesterday.. I've all but made the decision to pull the trigger. Though I can't help but have a bit of apprehension about doing this; its just a ton of money to spend on a cooker. Justifying a purchase like this is a challenge. Another thing I'm struggling with is picking out a tile and color pattern. I'm not sure if what I like in the pics on the site is necessarily what would look best on my little patio. I am drawn to the Autumn Nebula/Bronze tweed. I'd really love to see some pics of a KK with this type of pattern from the back and sides, if anyone has any they can post. Terra Blue seems like a "safer" choice. I really like the Dark Autumn Nebula as well and would like to see a KK in Dark Autumn Nebula/Bronze Tweed. There's so many excellent choices available its hard to decide. Right now I have an old Cobalt Blue RJ Kamado #5 where the KK would go, and believe it or not, mine has held up comparatively well. It still has 99% of its original tile - I got real lucky compared to many folkes. It does however need some work. The bands on it need replaced as the current ones have warped over the years. I've used it strictly as a grill for years now as its impossible to control the airflow for a low and slow anymore. Its gotten a ton of use and I don't feel it owes me a thing at this point. That said, I'm looking forward to an upgrade.
