  1. I think that's it - those who ordered the Block during the Kickstarter got the the offer two Meater+'s. My Meater Block has served me well since I got it a couple months ago, I'm glad I didn't take them up on the offer.
  2. That looks like a winner!
  3. If I win I will commission Dennis to build the 84" KK that can accommodate a whole steer.
  4. Definitely a good sign! Looks fantastic.
  5. So I got a chance to use the Block yesterday, and treated a whole chicken like a voodoo doll, sticking all four probes in it before loading it in my roti cradle and giving it a spin on my grill. The range of the probes to the block is limited, but such is the nature of Bluetooth. Its the very reason I chose the Block with its built in Bluetooth-to-Wifi bridge. One little thing I noticed is that the ambient temp part of the probes give a more accurate reading if they are sticking out of the meat perpendicular to the meat surface vs a probe inserted at a 45 degree angle or less. This makes perfect sense really, they need to have a bit of distance from the meat surface to give a reasonably accurate reading if the grill's temp. They did a good job on the app. I find it user friendly and quite intuitive. All in all I'm pleased with the product. I can see my CyberQ Wifi going into retirement.(aka sold) I won't miss the bird's nest of probe wires at all. The chicken itself turned out fine. 6. @tony b, one thing unexpected thing I found on my Block, when I extended its kickstand, I noticed a micro-usb port on the side. Apparently, the Block can be powered by a micro-usb connection should the 4 AA batteries fail. Seems like a superfluous feature, but its not hurting anything. Does your Meater charging block have a micro-usb port?
  7. My block arrived this afternoon. It seems nice nice enough. Setting it up was pretty straight forward. I powered the unit on. It has a stand alone mode that can be selected, but thats not how most will use this. So I selected wifi mode. From there everything was done through the app.. I launched the Meater app on my phone, and it searched and found the Block via bluetooth. Within the app I paired the Block with my phone, and then it showed a list of wifi networks it could see. I selected mine, and entered its password. (raise your hand if your home's wifi password has the word "Bacon" in it ) Next step was linking it up to Meater Cloud. Which again was simple and straightforward within the app. Right now its charging the probes. Picked up a whole meatchicken from the store today. Plan is break out the roti tomorrow, put a probe in each quarter of the bird, and give it a spin on the KK.
  8. While I don't have mine, Others have gotten the Meater Block, and it CAN be connected directly to your home wifi network. Which enables Meater Cloud. So with the Meater Block, Dennis should be able to monitor a cook of mine if I send him a link. I'll be trying these features myself in short order.
  9. True, but I guess I view that as a bit of a crutch. It does add flexibility, however. Still, part of my reasoning for choosing the Block was getting past Bluetooth's limitations, especially with our thick-walled grills..
  10. Bluetooth in general has very limited range. I'm glad they updated their line and offered the Meater+. The bluetooth repeater is essential IMHO for their probes to be of much use. In fact, I think the company and it customers would have been better served having the repeater in the design from the get go. Other than delayed deliveries, most of the negative reviews of the original Meater are tied directly to its limited range. Glad its working okay for you so far.
  11. Here's a video comparing the range of the Meater+ to the original Meater.
  12. This was my first experience with Kickstarter. Knowing the timelines they were putting out there were "hopes and dreams" at best, I felt I was risking saying goodbye to my $169 for my Meater Block. But I did it anyway. That said, it has taken them along time to get products up to snuff to ship. On the Block especially, they went through many more issues than they foresaw. The way the company executed their business left much to be desired. But at the end of the day, I still want the product I signed up for. And if it performs as advertised, I'll be pleased to have it as a tool in my cooking arsenal. I went with the Block because I wanted the wifi connectivity. I will find out soon if it works as hoped, or is just another techy headache. Fingers crossed!
  13. Oh man those look awesome! I love me some beef ribs!
  14. Good idea, @tony b. A bird shall be spun!
  15. Three years after the Kickstarter, my four probe Meater Block is finally on a FedEx truck on its way to me. Apption Labs certainly had their challenges bringing this product to market. The wait was long, but at the end of the day, I hope they got the kinks worked out and this thing functions as expected. Now to decide what my first cook should be to try out my new device ...... I'll be posting my impressions here when my unit arrives next week.
  16. I got my email this morning to confirm my shipping address for my Meater block. Looks like I was backer #953, so I think my unit will be in one of the first batches that gets shipped. Years late but I have to say I'm looking forward to getting it.
  17. Anyone considering trading in their Meaters for the new Meater+? The + has a bluetooth repeater built in the probe charger. From the looks of things, they are FINALLY getting ready to start shipping out Meater Blocks. Maybe those aren't vaporwear after all LOL. I'm looking forward to mine. But its taken forever and a day for them to get decent design together and create a shippable product.
  18. I was an early order of the Meater Block as well. I saw that update, and it sounds to me like Block are months away from shipping, at least. "We've received all the new parts to complete MEATER Block units and have begun hardware validation and firmware integration. Our plan is to use these hardware samples for beta testers after completion of our hardware/firmware validation, with the intention for this hardware to be the final version." Its there intention for this to be the final beta version before the Block goes into production. Doesn't even sound like their (hopefully) final beta units are assembled yet. Then they will need to beta test, and if all goes well, start small batch production. which will need to be tested and tuned before ramping up to full scale production. 50/50 chance IMO that us early backers see our blocks before 2018. I'm not as miffed about it as you @ckreef, but I'm not thrilled either. When I dropped that $170(I think?) on the Kickstarter, I did so w/o any expectations. Their original shipping estimates were LOL unrealistic. But us early backers who put in an order for Blocks sure seem to have been placed on the back burner. Likely for reasons you stated.
  19. @Bruce Pearson very nice! By the sounds of it you'll get your meater before I'll get my block.
  20. @tony b that is AWESOME! So Meaters are in fact not vaporware afterall. I cant's wait to hear your experiences with it. Now, time to bust out that roti!
  21. Awesome @tony b! Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. I saw the update, the Block still has a ways to go by the sounds of it. But that's understandable that they put their focus on the probes.
