  1. DJ you smell..... that's the exact design I had in my mind last night when I was trying to sleep. Ya know what they say about great minds.... The same thing could be done to the gas door. Regarding the Guru - it seems a bit of a hassle to dig out the 'ru and hook it up for a few minutes use, I hope the gas option is more efficient for fast high temp apps.
  2. Very nice, and functional, too. Looks to me like it goes in from the inside. I like that it can remain in place and not interfere with the draft door. The downside of that: if you happen to use gas to light up........ That was why asked - if it remains in place, it would be real tough to clean out ashes or use gas burner. So I am hoping it pushes in from the outside. -=Jasen=-[/quote:4eaxw1xl] rorkin had speculated that it was a front load in the other thread: viewtopic.php?t=808&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 I was always thinking inside mount and when rorkin said 'tip it diagonally and insert etc.,' that's when I suggested a handle dead center on the front to facilitate pulling it out to the front once positioned.... If I install the gas, I probably won't ever have the screen in, not because I won't need it, I have had the draft door pulled out virtually every time I have used the KK so far. Time for Screen 2.0

  4. It was great - best ever My kids said it tasted like "restaurant chicken", coming from them, that's a big complement! We typically don't eat the skin, next time I may up the temp a little and try for more color.
  5. This is from last week - be gentle, it's my first time. Now let's eat! I threw on a little grocery store chicken rub (very exotic, I know) and tossed it on.
  6. When I leave the top damper nearly closed (just cracked) and the Guru fan is running, I get venting through every orifice including the lower draft door. Should the top be opened enough to allow that to go out the top? If air is escaping through the lower draft door, it's not affecting the fire at all and it's evacuating hot humid air and replacing it with outside air. Is this standard? BTW I have the guru damper between 1/4 - 1/2 open, so I'm not blasting it with 10CFM.
  7. Yeah - and another question... I agree with DJ - range is not too impressive, but seems to get the job done. Now - does anyone have an elegant solution for plugging the Polder port on the KK? I have been sticking a small rag scrap in it, it works, but it looks like crap!
  8. Curly you forget, we've seen your gurly, you wouldn't let her go that easily, stop the posturing before she reads your posts and woops yer a**.
  9. That makes it simple: we need a 2 piece, OTB shaped, adjustable size heat deflector (with an 80g hard drive and 12 woofers......)
  10. Nice catch TW - the last shot I saw of her must have been shortly after a shave..... nice flavor saver on her now!
  11. I think we shoulda made him go first!!
  12. Only if the burn is in that outer 1" of the firebox. How often does that happen? I just fired up to around 400 tonight - dumped a big load in - out to the edges, by the time it got up to temp it had sagged down and the fire was nowhere near the outer 1". Dig? Just make it big, I'm getting weak, I want to change my vote.
  13. DudeJ how often do you have fire outside the general circumference of the lump basket (clear out to the edge of the firebox [ring]?? That would be required to come anywhere near getting past the edge of a smaller deflector. The current round version is easily an inch or more smaller than the firebox but seems to do fine blocking all the direct heat. I had her up to 600 last week as you may recall and the deflector worked fine - in fact, I had it on the lower grill which is another 8 - 10"? above the normal resting place. Blazing hot fire, elevated smallish round deflector- great pizza! However, I don't think I'll do that again, the lower grill warped (sagged) some from the heat with the heavy reflector on it.
  14. Okay, that would be a reason to leave make the frame inside the tubes. Dennis were you thinking a front side install, if so, a handle dead center (or finger holes as rorkin suggested) would be helpful for that.
  15. I know you want it.... Eat your hearts out. Rod Stewart wrote a song 'bout her "hot legs" She has slimmed some, she works out 3 times a day, well she gets off the couch 3 times for snack and potty time. Schwwinnnggg
  16. Re: easier (and less cost) The problem is that the tubes are lower at the ends /closer to the cooker floor. so unless the hole permitted wiggle that might later get sloppy over the years... If we can find the right rigid expanded plate screen we could make this with out a frame with a plasma cutter.. And yes... I am going to send them out to the Komodo family gratis.. Perhaps I'm not following... I don't see how having the frame outside the tubes is affected by distance to the floor. You could have some extra space between the frame and tubes on the outside (if that helps the install) and make the screen cutouts as close as you would have with the frame on the inside. Or you could make the damned thing however you want and act like you own the place, your choice!
  17. It's picture time!!!!!! Okay Travis in Chicago..... you have to post a picture of your girlfriend. Curly, myself and Twharton have all posted our wives, now it's your turn!
  18. If'n we r, duz that mean u wunt to come ovr? Ur sissy reallee likes the Q! U learned her good, did you du that wen u wuz date'n?
  19. Welcome Greggd......communist! (I make stellar beef jerky ON A NESCO AMERICAN HARVEST DEHYDRATOR! )
  20. Since Twharton started it, I thought I'd share too. Here's a shot of me & the Mrs. on our wedding day. I know Curly will be jealous! I have a few more shots but I don't want you guys get'n all het up over my gal!
  21. Dude, are you from Iowa or something...we don't do easy, cheap in this place D'oh - I was thinking that since Dennis will be sending these out gratis as a liability prevention, I'd try to save him a couple of dimes! 'Round here (Iowa) we would have just fixed that up with a little bail'n wire and a pair of pliers.
  22. Would it be easier (and less cost) to make the frame with all straight sides (vertical sides would be on the outside of the tubes) and then cut the screen out to fit around the draft slider tubes?
  23. Makes perfect sense Choppy. That's why an inch smaller seems to make sense to me. I think the current defector would still be smaller than the new design would be even at an inch smaller.
  24. But how do you get your beer bottles opened??
