  1. Re: I'm interviewed about KK on Kingsford's Grilling.com Or how about a Wicked Good Charcoal model with a tile chickadee on it:
  2. Re: I'm interviewed about KK on Kingsford's Grilling.com Now THAT would be aweSOME, lol!
  3. Re: KK *should* be here by the weekend! What color? Mine is supposed to clear customs today or tomorrow and then it's the long trip from Long Beach to NC...
  4. Re: Trader Joe's hardwood Briquettes I don't know why, and I did consult an "scientist" to try to find out, but I've smelled ammonia when using lump sometimes, so I don't think it is anything unique to briquettes.
  5. Re: What is your KK's name? I never named the black cooker. I'll probably name the new one Pebbles.
  6. Re: KK in nytimes I don't think the guy bought into the versatility argument. He said he thought he could do anything on a metal cooker. I did point out that you could do it easier on a ceramic cooker, but we didn't go into specifics. Like, yeah you can cook a port butt in a webber kettle overnight if you want to add briquettes every hour. Oh well, I suppose if everyone had one, we wouldn't feel so special,
  7. Dennis, Did you put a secret tracking device in my cooker so I can track across the Pacific Ocean?
  8. Re: Wireless Stoker Released I'm thinking that maybe some folks would like a Stoker with no internet connection. They might want the multi-cooker capabilities.
  9. Re: Wireless Stoker Released It seems that you cannot get it anymore without wireless. It's a $65 bump in price for the basic system.
  10. Re: Parts for old Komodo Kamado Just so you know, kamado is a style of cooker. Komodo is this company's brand name. Anything from 1988 was not made by Komodo Kamado. Parts for those older cookers may be available from Big Green Egg. (I just said it and I'm still here, lol!) Give them a call and see what they suggest. Some people have repaired fireboxes with JB Weld. I haven't seen any followup posts from them about how it held. I think you can also use Rutland Furnace Cement. Good luck!
  11. Re: Gonna buy one Monday!! We just had a thread last week, I think, about how you can use Microsoft Photo Editor (it should come with your version of Windows) to resize a photo. If you make it something like 800 pixels wide, it will be small enough to post. Good luck!
  12. Re: Goodbye Black Textured KK.... You are quite welcome! I'm glad your family made it home safely. Feel free to ask for advice here on the forum. There are some very skilled owners here more than happy to pass on their knowledge.
  13. When my new beauty arrives, do I need to tell the delivery company anything in order to ensure that they don't leave it in the street but rather 3 feet away from the street in my driveway? If I can get them to put it on the driveway and not have to worry about the gutter and the ramp up the driveway, I'm good to go with my neighbor helping. I could at least get it into the garage where I can wait for a third person to help get it up the two steps and two steps to get to the back deck. So is there some magic phrase regarding them bringing any equipment? And assuming the driver is helpful how much would you tip him? Thanks!
  14. Re: Posting Photos Larry, There is a free program named Irfanview: http://www.irfanview.com/ I use it when I do a web page like some of the Troop Cooks where I have 100 photos to post. Once you get the hang of it's batch processing (you can set various parameters that get applied to every photo) it will go like a Mazda (Zoom Zoom) and do them all. You can tell it to give them new names so as not to overlay the originals. Good luck!
  15. Re: Komodo availability - Good & Bad News Johnnyboy, I was going to say that the 2.4 Ultimate is 0.2 more ultimate than a 2.2 Ultimate. Sort of like this snippet of dialogue from Spinal Tap: Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and... Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten? Nigel Tufnel: Exactly. Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder? Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where? Marty DiBergi: I don't know. Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do? Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven. Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder. Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder? Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven. These go to 2.4......
  16. Re: Posting Photos Brilliant!
  17. Re: Posting Photos Well, using M Photo Editor, when you pick Save As, you can click on the More button and select the Jpeg Quality Factor of 75 before you save it. I'd be surprised if you could produce a 600x800 or 533x800 pixel image that was much over 150K. For example, have an image from my old Canon 50D that was about 3500x2300 pixels. The image is 4 meg. When I resize to 800x533 at a quality factor of 72, I get a 93K file: Certainly adequate for photo posting and nowhere near 500KB.
  18. Re: Posting Photos Larry, there a bazillion free photo editing programs out there. I believe that Windows comes with Microsoft Photo Editor. It is on my XP laptop at work, and I didn't add it, so I believe it must come with Windows. You just right click on the photo, Open With....., select Microsoft Photo Editor. Click on Image->Resize and box will open up. Click on the Units dropdown and select pixels. Then type in the new size for either the width or height. 800 pixels wide is a good size for a photo in landscape orientation. Then click on File->Save As and save your photo as a new file name. The advantage of you doing it is of course a) you get to choose the size and you only have to upload maybe 100,000 bytes instead 2 or 3,000,000. Good luck!
  19. Right, so, when it comes to matters of taste (as in color of the new KK) my wife is usually right. She saved me from making a fool of myself when I bought my Mazda by gently suggesting that silver is a more appropriate color for someone of my, ahem, maturity, rather than electric blue. So, I invited her into the decision process for the tile choice on the new KK. I think she did a great job and I went with her recommendation. So, I just got an email from her. "Can you send me a link to the website of the new egg so I can show a friend." Oh well. Baby steps before big girl steps......
  20. I just helped load up the black KK that Dennis gave me back in 2006 when it arrived damaged at a customer here in Raleigh. It will now be cared for by a very nice family we just met who live up in Maryland. The new owner has been lurking here for about a year and found my cooker on Craig's List. We arranged for him to pick it up on the way back from a family trip out west. Whew! Lot's of driving! We hope he'll show up here eventually. So, say goodbye to the old cooker because we will soon be saying hello to the new cooker.
  21. Re: Foreign objects in lump charcoal Yes, BGE is made by Royal Oak. The fiberglass found in Cowboy is most likely ceramic insulation from their kilns, according to them. Cowboy is no longer lumber scrap (at least what I've bought in the last several years). It looks more like Royal Oak, but usually mostly small pieces.
  22. Re: New to ceramic cooking Mike, Here are a couple of suggestions for "cookbooks" written by Big Green Egg owners that contain a fair amount of how to information: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/cookbooks.htm Check out the top two entries. Good luck! Doug
  23. Re: Ultrasound? Definitely don't want to see the placenta, lol
  24. Re: Ultrasound? Not sure I want to see any conception shots, though, lol!
