Yes that is what I meant. But if you only have half then more room for you to reach down and play around with the food on the sear grill. I don't actually know what I'm talking about though as I don't own a KK. It's kind of like your idea but the food is a little farther from the fire and thus not getting cooked while its resting.

Or how about a half grill for the top so you can still reach the sear grill but can take the food off and put it on a top shelf.

Maybe some day If can actually use this ordering form.

No one answered your last question which I think is an interesting one. If you are just making burgers and dogs can you cook with just the gas burner?

The recipe from the link is not working any more but that sounds suspiciously like Raichlens recipe which has the same name. Either way it is very good as I've made it a bunch of times and each time it was delicious. Maybe eventually I can actually make it in a KK. A guy can dream.

Dennis sorry to hear of your loss. My father also passed away from a long fight with lung cancer and emphysema. He died on 12/10. I was able to say my goodbyes and tell him how much I loved him. He loved Christmas time so much. You have my condolences.

DJ at another website I have heard that you can send these knives back to Shun for sharpening. All you do is pay shipping. If they can't sharpen the knives back to new they will replace the knives. Seems like a real good deal.
