Boy, buying such a reasonable grill really lead to over-doing it on the sleeping bag side of the equation, huh?

Very nice rig - gonna have great adventures with that one, for sure.

    Congrats.

We're looking forward to the new adventures. Yes a reasonable grill but I think I choose wisely (both grill and trailer). I'm not scared of propane I can make any grill sing (with enough practice).

  2.

I bought a few awesome Camp Chef Accessories. Definitely had to get the cover.

Needed some leveling feet especially when using the griddle.

A longer propane hose is always nice.

And of course we needed a Travel Trailer to go along with the Camp Chef. I mean what's the purpose of owning a camping grill if you can't go camping B)

2020 Grand Design 2600rb. Just the right sized couples trailer for me and Mrs skreef.

Wonderfully prepared taking advantage of two KK's.  Is there a basket splitter in the 19 or 16?  Anyhow the shank as you have there is the lower portion of the leg below the shoulder, generally it has the bone in.

No basket splitter.  Grill Grates in the 16", heat deflector/drip pan in the 19". Two KK's is a minimum in my world. B) with just me and Mrs skreef 2 smaller KK's is just fine.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) with my latest acquisition (will post soon) a 42" KK is now officially off the table.

Lamb shank steak?? Never heard of that. Is it the bottom of the rump?

That looks really delicious @ckreef.  I love pink lamb but would never have imagined that lamb shank could stand that treatment.  Like @Basher, I am interested how/where it was cut from on the animal.

Not sure about the actual cut. I think they were labeled lamb Shank Steak but my memory could be fading - LOL. Strangely enough I get these at Walmart. They are sold in 2's in a cryopac. I've gotten them a few times and they aren't bad. Next time I get some I'll post a picture of the pac.

Looks pretty rust free down there (nice) not like my old FORD, then again there isn't any salt on the roads where your at.........is there, lucky man.

No salt, no rust. Anything you see down there is GA red mud. Did you ever see the movie My Cousin Vinny? That movie tells the truth about GA red mud. Stuck inside your rim it will throw your balance off and give you a rough ride until you clean it out.

My Nissan Titan SV 4x4 crew cab has tow mode but they could have beefed up the suspension a bit so I took maters in my own hands with the Roadmaster Active Suspension HD kit. It's a coil spring helper for rear leaf springs. Super easy to install. Floor jack, jack stands, a few hand tools and about an hours worth of time. Should help when towing heavy loads.

Funny I was looking at those the other day at Bass Pro. Actually went in to see the dehydrators for jerky on a whim. Anyhow they had the 3 burner model right beside it, yep, purdy nice. I didn't jump, wanted to, that devil was biting on my ear. I guess we musta been shopping like at the same time, you know a deja vous thing...well before I knew it that Devil flew down to Georgia and landed on another ear. By golly, phew..I was saved.

I had decided on this Explorer 2 model but hadn't ordered it yet. I was out shopping in the vicinity of a Bass Pro and something told me (must have been the devil) to stop in at Bass Pro. At only $99 for the basic unit the price was right (the price is never right at Bass Pro! ) so I grabbed a cart, a few accessories and off I went.

This is there no thrills model. You need to use a long camp lighter to ignite it but that doesn't bother me. It's really heavy duty and big enough so a large stock pot or my paella pan fits on it. It has large air flow control so you get a nice blue flame. Even though it has really big burners you can adjust the flame really low and extra high. The nicest feature is the control knobs are pointing in towards each other. This keeps the knobs inside the foot print of the frame. A lot of their other models the knobs stick out straight on the outside of the frame which makes them more prone to damage when transporting.

If you are ever considering something like this it's a good sturdy unit. Check out this burner picture. Low and slow or raging hell fire to keep the devil happy B)

  8. Wanted to get a propane camping stove for me and Mrs skreef.

I ended up going with a Camp Chef Explorer, 2 burner model. I also got the grill box and professional griddle. The grill box has a heat deflector under the grate to make a more even temperature and a CI grate. It did a pretty good job cooking burgers last night. Strangely enough I got it from a local Bass Pro store. It was cheaper than online and I commented to the Bass Pro guy that Bass Pro is never cheaper - LOL. He laughed out of courtesy but I don't think he thought it was funny. B)

Anyway I have a few other accessories I want to get and one day I'll get the pizza oven accessory for it. I'll post the other accessories when the get to the house.

@ckreef   Was in Michigan last weekend and was able to take a few pictures of the fire grate on the bigger Yukon fire pit.  Resized_20200207_082729.thumb.jpeg.f08d64b815df021f07a6a1b676b7ca9c.jpeg

The outer circumference/edge of the fire grate is 12" below the upper rim of the fire pit.

    Resized_20200207_082707.thumb.jpeg.874f96b97a5528a8fc2f25a931a34d39.jpeg

The center of the fire grate is 7 1/2" below the upper rim of the fire pit.  The fire grate has a 4 1/2" bow from edge to center.

The directions for all the fire pits say to keep the fire wood below the rim of the pit for proper secondary burning (the cool feature of this fire pit).

With dome shape, the bigger pieces of wood stick above the rim and disrupt the secondary burn.   It really limits the amount of wood that you can stack into the fire pit.........taking away a lot of the benefits of the larger unit.  In my opinion..................for the price difference.................is not worth buying the larger Yukon fire pit.

    Hope this helps!!

That's a huge fire done. My Bonfire has a similar dome it's not nearly as tall.

I like that, a great traveling companion for a RV home or even in the backyard. Kinda like, have campfire will travel. Cozy feeling and appears safe, was it her birthday or just because.

Just because she really wanted a fire pit and I really didn't want to pull out the old rust bucket fire pit.

Definitely have campfire will travel and it's a very safe fire pit. With the small stand ring included, I would put it on a wooden deck without worry.

e it is in the BBQ garden. Also looking at the box it appears they now include the small lower stand. That allows air under the unit so you don't burn/scorch whatever it's sitting on.

That is a nice improvement from the totally flat grate that is in our unit. 👍

I too thought it was a good improvement. It's just slightly dome shape and the ridges looks like they'll help with any possible warping. All in all Mrs skreef is really happy with this purchase I made for her. I wonder what her reaction would be if I bought her a 42" KK for valentines day - LOL

  12. For the last two years Mrs skreef has wanted me to pull the old rust bucket of a fire pit out of the bone yard. It was such a rust bucket I just couldn't do it. Then @Syzygies  posted a link to the Solo Stove website. I poked around that website and found the Solo Stove Bonfire fire pit. After reading numerous reviews and watching many videos I knew this would be just perfect for Mrs skreef. It would allow us to have a nice looking fire pit in the BBQ garden.

Ordered Thursday night. It arrived on Monday.

    ssbA.thumb.jpg.303574bd102c12ff827acd21539e735f.jpg

It came with a nice, heavy duty carry bag.

    ssbB.thumb.jpg.9d4d44599f764590953ea72aac1f1285.jpg

From the pictures I've seen it appears they have upgraded the coal plate. It is a slight dome shape with extra ridges to help prevent it from warping.

Here it is in the BBQ garden. Also looking at the box it appears they now include the small lower stand. That allows air under the unit so you don't burn/scorch whatever it's sitting on.

Super easy to light. A fire starter, a little kindling and a few bigger logs. Fire it up and within 20 minutes or so it's off to the races.

    ssbE.thumb.jpg.a43ad1571c12ce11f08c20350e515762.jpg

Once going good it really is basically smoke-free. Here is a short video showing the secondary burn effect.

Although a little pricey it's a well built SS unit with a lifetime warranty. Everything they say about it is true. It pumps out the heat. The only con I could see - if you're sitting around the fire, your legs from your shins down won't get any heat. It's a small con for having a smoke-free fire. I highly recommend it and both me and Mrs skreef feel it was one of our better accessories to the BBQ garden.
