  1. I use the basket splitter too. Very useful gizmo that does the job efficiently. There are so many things that are superior in the Komodo that you need to own one to really see the difference. I read tons of info on the Komodo and it didn't really hit home until in was in front of me. You will never regret the purchase.

  2. Sometimes they're labeled as "All Natural" or even organic (which is a joke sometimes). Hormel loves to put "a solution" in most of their meats. Smithfield too. Swift Premium has some natural ribs, but you have to check the label on all of them. Seems like the enhanced info on ribs, boston butt, pork loin is in tiny letters that only a teenager could read. They mess up chickens with this enhanced mess too. I'm not in to organic, all natural, yoga, zen and any new age "lifestyle", but I don't want extra salt or hammy flavored ribs and other pork.

Also think about the fact that some of this "solution' and enhancement is 12% of the package. So if you paid $13 for a nice rack of ribs, you paid $1.56 for them to over-salt and mess up your ribs. And last of all, they don't tell you what it consist of claiming it's a patented solution.

Good luck finding some, Wilbur. Albertson's has good ribs...sometimes. Rouses too.

  3. From RedStick "I have to admit the 32 looks awfully nice! I personally don't know that I can work that out with the other half." "I've got the fever, but I've taken some medicine given to me by my wife (ha)."

Glad you came here for the magic answer to that problem. First of all you can tell her about all the yummy stuff you'll cook just for her. Then tell her about the romantic suppers of surf and turf by candlelight with a nice glass of wine.

If neither one of those work, just say "Sweetie, I'm getting a 32" Komodo Kamado and there's not a damn thing you can do about it."  Women love men with an assertive attitude. If she starts to give you any lip, just put your finger to your lips in the universal sign that means "Close your beak."  I'm not responsible for an attorney's fees or having to give the house away if my suggestions don't work.

  4. You have a beautiful set up MacKenzie! The trees, sunflowers and your outdoor kitchen is so inviting that I'd never be in the house! I'll bet you have a lot of birds coming to visit those sunflowers. And by the way, the ribs appear to be perfect. Nice color and juiciness. Well done!

  5. When you have it in its final resting place and all the goodies stored away, take that cell phone and snap a few photo's of it so we can all wish we had it too! Congratulations and I'm glad you removed it from that truck without letting gravity have its way with it. What are you cooking on it first?

  6. I received an email saying that BBQ guru was having a Labor Day sale. If you buy a DIGIQ or CyberQ you get a bottle of BBQ sauce and a shaker of  rub. So spend $257 or $367 plus shipping and get your free sauce and rub. Almost makes me want to get another one.  :confused5:

  7. No worries, MacKenzie. Dennis supplied a grate that can take all the sauce I slosh on chicken and ribs and mine still look grate (great, get it? Another pun for Tony tiger)

Put those ribs on and don't look back.

  8.   I clean my grates right after every cook while they're still hot/warm. I use the 3/8 wrench to get the baked on stuff off and then give it a quick wipe with a paper towel. I really don't see the need to get them shiny sparkling clean before the next cook. When you're getting your Komodo to temps for the next cook, the grill will be under more heat than your dishwasher could provide and destroy any horrible nasty germs that might have made their home on it.

If it's for photo purposes, then yeah it looks cool. But otherwise, knock off the crusty stuff and grill on, brother!

  9. I didn't cut off the ends of the skewer because it makes them harder to get out of the wing. And yes, they did turn black but didn't burn up. I could still use a glove and tongs to pull it out. When in Mexico, went to the Jose Cuervo distillery and were served margaritas with this stuff lining the rim of the glass. I purchased it there at their factory. But I have seen it elsewhere since I got it. It's good on veggies too.

And thanks everyone on the congratulations of the Grandson. This will be number 5 for me. (3 granddaughters, 2 grandsons) Looking forward to seeing him, even briefly, today. Going back tomorrow to maybe hold him. The family is an hour and a half away. You guys keep cooking and posting to make up for my slacking off!
