  1. Tonight the weather cooperated and I wanted to cook on my KKs. I have had them for a week now and have yet to cook on them. Many people asked me what my first cook would be... and I figured go with what I love the most!! I love Mexican food and figured I was due to make some carne asada. I added a few more things to the meal. I marinated flank steak with my carne asada mojo, and used John Henry's Cilantro and Lime on the chicken and shrimp. I am very impressed with the Komodo Kamado!! Nice to finally pop its cherry Anyways here you go!! I just love the look and feel of the KK After getting the 23 up to 375, I added some chicken to start. Then I added some steak, and finally the shrimp. The smells coming from the top cap was just amazing!!! Once I pulled the chicken off, I added a bit more heat. I went up to 400 with no effort at all After it was all finished, I brought everything into the house While I was cooking my 12 year old son helped make the corn tortillas. We pressed 16 of them!!! all the fixings!! 3 tacos, one shrimp, one chicken and one steak. Added my home made pico and some queso cheese!!!!!! A great cook tonight and I am very pleased with the results. I wish I could share with all of you!!

    Wow!!

So I am cooking in about 2 hours so I figured I would get going on heating my 23 up. I assumed with the mass that I would need to really let it heat up for a while to get to temp. I set the bottom left damper 180 degrees open and turned the top open 3 spins. In 10 min (lighting in two places) I reached 310 degrees. I just adjusted the vents as I will try and find a happy place for 375. I am in shock!!!!!!! My jr. Doesn't even heat up that quick
  3. that looks really good buddy!!!! I have had it, off to the grocery store I go!!!! This weather sucks but I am cooking....
  4. Wilbur I too couldn't find an official grate size. If you got with the 60% that is going with respect to what available Online at this point.
  5. very impressed and I have so many people asking me questions about sizes etc so figured a little chart would help
  6. I must say, that I am just staring at my new KKs and can't believe the build quality. My wife says its an obsession that is bordering creepy lol. I must say the one thing that stands out is the grates of the KK. i have had several people ask me "How does the 23 and 32 grates compare to the big joe size. I did a little research and then did a comparison photo to help you understand the size of both the 23" and 32". The one really cool feature is that the 23" come with 3 grates and the 32" comes with 4 grates. I am very satisfied with getting the 32". At first I was reluctant as I thought that it was too big, however, Dennis assured me that is was a grillers grill. It is a lot bigger than the big joe, but it is not crazy in size!! I will love filling the main grate up with full meals!! The breakdown is as follows 24" Big Joe 452 sq" Main grate included on delivery (standard) 271 sq" (60% more grilling) expander rack not included on delivery 723 sq" total grilling space 23" Ultimate 329 sq" Lower grate 375 sq" Main grate 274 sq" Upper grate 978 sq" Total grilling space included on delivery (standard) 32" Big Bad 544 sq" Lower grate 576 sq" Main grate 418 sq" Upper grate 288 sq" half grate 1,538 sq" Total grilling space included on delivery (standard)
  7. man I just threw out a rock the size of a softball
  8. I need to get back to the gym for moving all this stuff around!!! Over engineered is honestly an understatement
  9. Today was straight burn in CC. I just didnt get around to getting a cook in... I ran out of time and energy unfortunately. I am psyched to cook my first meal and I am leaning towards my favourite.... carne asada!!
  10. I am definitely in need of some relaxers.....
  11. not sure that I will have time to cook on them tonight. My wife has a work party and my boys have hockey again. I am just making sure that I do this burn in correctly right now. We are just getting up to 500 degrees and the smell is definitely present. No lifting or any signs of pressure as of yet... I am sure I will get some spots... but it would be pretty cool if I didnt!!!
  12. I'm really tired today!! yesterday was a lot of work getting it all unpacked, placed then all the packaging sent to the dump in three loads. Up early this morning unpacking the rest of the stuff.... I am really sore and tired today.... but extremely happy none the less
  13. ok round two I woke up this morning and it must have rained last night. The new cover from KK worked perfect!! I ran out of time last night and didnt get a chance to empty the KKs with all of their stuff.... man this was a lot of work. There is so much stuff packed inside. here is the contents of the 23" the 32" is about the same The grills are so bloody heavy... they are very well built and robust!! Each KK came with three grilling racks, labeled lower, main and upper.... the 32 also came with a bonus half grill. The deflector stone on the 23" is a one piece and the 32" comes in 4 pieces. They are thick and heavy!! should do a great job deflecting heat! each KK came with a little box of goodies, tools and extra pieces that you may lose along the way the main grate is awesome!! and did I mention crazy heavy!! Here is a picture of the 32" and 23" main cooking grate Well I finally got to the bottom of the pit and wanted to get going on the burn in process.... I used about a half a bag of RO red to fill both the 23" and 32". I assume that I could have filled the basket higher the 23" basket loaded up and the 32" basket loaded up The baking stones are one piece again super heavy and well built. The picture is a bit washed out but it is a little darker grey than this the included drip pans with each KK I ordered the rotisserie for only the 32". Its massive and seems well built and concluded the unwrapping with the double bottom drip pans. These things are heavy!!! They may be the heaviest item next to the stones. They look great and will definitely act as a drip pan and deflector all in one!! Got the tel-tru installed and now we are slowly getting up in temp to complete the burn in. It is a very exciting time, however, in all honesty... I am really tired out. This was a huge order and lots of work... the joints and muscles are paying for it a bit today!!
  14. today is a day off!!! just doing the burn in as we speak!!
  15. That makes sense!!!! Thank you that did the trick
  16. I can't figure out how to get that piece in the bottom. Does it sit up high in the basket??
  17. Bad port fire expect delays. So this is what it feels like sitting on this side of the fence.
  18. It's worth it!!!! Great photo
  19. you're setup was the inspiration Tony!!
  20. I got word at 6:30am, that Customs accepted the declaration so I headed an hour east and went to pay for my delivery. I was able to get same day shipping so I figured lest do this!!! They showed up around 1:30pm today and I did this by myself. I really wanted to chronicle everything from beginning to end but it was going to rain and I wanted to get it done as soon as I could. I will say that the 3 skids were packed to perfection. Dennis you're crew know how to secure the goods!!! Everything was a piece of cake after watching everyone uncrate their stuff. I could only get the 23" skid in the yard, the rest remained in the driveway. Tomorrow I will post pictures of the goodies that I got.... there are lots. I haven't even pulled out what is inside the KKs as of yet. Anyways, about 2 hours later and three trips to the City dump I am all cleaned up and ready to present some photos!!! I am so overwhelmed with the beauty of these KKs. It is true what they say, a picture just doesn't do it justice. This is some of the finest craftsmanship that I have ever seen in my life. They were bigger than what I was expecting but in all honesty that 32" is not crazy!! It is a very manageable size for grilling!!!!!!!!! So excited, I can't wait to roll some smoke through these puppies!!! Dennis, thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything to me. You are the man behind the brand and I am so grateful to be cooking on these KKs!!!! I will post more as I go I promise.... for now I am off to watch my sons hockey game. Tomorrow we break them in and get them dirty!! What an exciting day!!
  21. I wish Mac. Not sure that I will be cooking today. My boys have hockey tonight so I'll see what I can get done today and go from there!!! Have I mentioned that I am excited yet??
  22. So delivery is 250 for the 3 skids. They offered same day delivery with my own dedicated truck for 320 CAD money for the Americans..... KKs are being loaded for delivery as we speak!!!
