There are 16 ounces in a pound, so 8*16=128 ounces. 1% is 1.28 ounces A tablespoon is .5 fluid ounces. But its not that simple, because a fluid ounce != one ounce of weight - weight depends upon density, while a tablespoon is a volume measurement. If it freezes at my house, I have much bigger problems than moisture in my KK! You do raise an interesting point, but I have to wonder if the moisture will really freeze inside of the KK? I know my KK absorbs a lot of solar energy, which keeps the inside quite warm. Im curious if a KK which sees sunlight will get cold enough to freeze water inside of it? You also need to consider the new "stretchy" and soft grout and tile adhesive. This stuff is supposed to remain impermeable, so there should be no moisture seeping in from outside. If this is true, even if a crack were to go all the way through the wall, it will remain airtight due to this new grouting mix. I think reasonable caution would prevent most problems. Wouldn't venting the cooker after it cools keep it dry enough inside to prevent the quantities of water necessary to split the expansion joints?

These joints are control joints. Control joints are used to allow stresses placed on concrete (or refractory in this case) to form a crack in a predictable manner. You are thinking of movement joints, which are typically separate pieces of material with fiberboard, steel dowels, etc joining them.

One other possibility for making your KK as bear resistant as possible - bolt it directly to the deck. Dennis has said in the thread below that he could put bolts in place of the wheels, so it could be affixed directly: viewtopic.php?t=1577&highlight=wheels I think the biggest question is how do bears react to the smell of smoke and burnt grease? Do they typically tear your other BBQs apart? If not, they would probably not be too interested in your KK, right?

You can also get an aerosol sealer at the home improvement store. It used to available at Home Depot under the name "stand and seal". You just spray it on. Worked like a champ on my moms tile floors. I saw in expose in the newspaper some time ago that the product was killing people from breathing too much of it in after indoor use, and HD and the manufacturer were ignoring the issue, slow to recall, etc. Not sure if you can still get it, or what the new name for it is. I think your plan probably worked just as well, and probably applied a deeper concentration of sealant, too. I am not sure I would want to try it on the matte finish tiles, though. It may be harder to remove than from the shiny ones. So, are you going to wax your Lambo with the turtle wax you apply with the hose-end sprayer

Well, KK only comes in one size right now, but a smaller version is on the way. The standard OTB has a 22" main grill, and the smaller version will have a 19.5 inch main grill. I am a family of 3.5 right now, 2 adults and 10 and 3 year old boys. I grill every chance I get and seldom, if ever use the oven (It's hot enough here in FL). Prior to my KK purchase, I had a #5 POSK, which has a 18" main grill. I can tell you from experience that the full size KK is the grill to have. It sounds like a monster to hear it described, but honestly it is not that big. You really should pay one of your local KKs a visit to have a first hand look and kick the tires. My KK purchase came about because the 18" inch grill just wasnt big enough a few times too often. You have to remember that the ceramic experience allows you to cook much more than just your entrees on the KK. I am often cooking vegetables and sides along with the main course. Fitting these items on a smaller version can be a challenge, but the KK, with multiple cooking grates (Levels) makes the task much easier. Also, dont forget that the KK heats quickly, and can be shut down after your cook, to save the leftover charcoal. While you may not always fill the grill, the extra space is a luxury when its not needed, and a godsend when it is.

I think the point DJ was trying to make was that KK and POSK are 2 different beasts, and should be treated as such with regard to maintenance necessary. You absolutely NEED to oil your POSK to prevent rust. Not true on KK which is stainless, and what DJ was trying to say this section (KK411) is about.

I never needed to adjust mine until last weekend when I tightened the small nuts on the back side. Somehow they worked loose and my rods had a bunch of play in them. After tightening, the alignment made them bind up when they were inserted. I cleaned the rods, sprayed them with silicone lubricant spray, wiped them with a paper towel and now all is good as new. Sometimes, you need a little more than cleaning. BTW, never had to touch the damper top...that thing is still smooth as silk, it almost spins *too* freely, and I use my KK several times a week.

He has a nice start, but there looks to be a few glaring omissions from the design -The opposite side of the trailer should house a fridge and maybe a sink (fed from a tank of water above) or a hose. Then, the dead area between the two halves could be a private bathroom, just a boaters chemical toilet - THEN you would be set! -

I agree with bobvoeh, Is plenty stable while being moved around. Im sure szygies can compute the exact location of the center of gravity, considering the irregular shape, but in the meantime its safe to assume its not going anywhere. As an added precaution, it should be fairly simple to tether it to the deck just to be safe. Maybe a couple of eye-bolts in the deck under it, a.nd you could wrap a piece of cable around the wheels to keep it from moving or tipping.

Im going to get in trouble for posting this, but its OK, sometimes the situation calls for breaking the rules This thread says much to me. TNW, who has the biggest lump collection on either side of the Mississippi, is inquiring to purchase several boxes of KK coconut. He gets free lump, yet he is opening his wallet to get more of this stuff. It must be good.

I do beans on the KK as well, just did some yesterday along with a nice ham. I put them in a crock, uncovered, right along side whatever else is cooking. I smoked the ham for about 4 hours at 225 before bumping it up to 350 for an hour or so to finish it off and glaze it. Liquid boils at 212, so anything at or above that will be like simmering your beans on the stove. One tip, if you are using a crock or other vessel on the main grill during an indirect cook, push the beans to the outside edge. I push mine to the back left corner, which seems to be where my lump burns the hottest. This way, the beans are taking the higher heat that is rolling out from under the deflector, and up the side of the grill. If you are doing multiple butts, and space is an issue, you can always do a baking sheet on the upper grill, above the butts.

The stones are cast inside of a SS pan. They are attached to them, simply by being poured into it, but I pulled the pan off of mine. The ss drip pan is just like the stone liner, only a few inches bigger. It sounds like your stone came out of the SS pan on its own - no problem there. I actually used the SS liner as a drip pan tonight. Its nice to have the smaller and larger drip pans on hand.

you left one option off your poll - Remove spouse who is requiring you to remove a grill I would lose the wsm - there is nothing you can do in that that cant be done better in one of the other grills.
