Using a Wok

Anyone ever tried putting a wok in their KK? You can get such hot direct heat in the lower area which would be great for wok cooking. Curious if anyone has done well with it.

I know a few people who do wok cooking in their kamados (not necessarily KK's). Wok cooking tends to splatter grease around a bit so I was never willing. A $88 outdoor propane wok burner solved the problem for when I need to satisfy my wok cooking urges.

Hadn't considered the grease splatter before, but good advice from Charles on that tip!

I have a 60,000 BTU gas burner in my brew room that I used for my wok cooking, so I've never tried it in the KK.

Only other thing about putting the wok in the KK down on the charcoal basket handles is having to lean way into the KK to stir fry things, unless you have really long handled tools!

I have a flat-bottomed cast iron wok - Kamado Joe brand that I have used a few times in my 23". I never know what the right name is for the grates, but I use it on the grate in the second position down - is that the main grate? The lower grate? I wouldn't put it lower than that unless you don't like your eyebrows.

I've never really had a grease spatter problem while using it on the grill.

It works fine. It's not the best way to wok, but it works for the 2 or 3 times per year that we want to wok something.
