MacKenzie
Fall is here, there was snow on the ground again this morning. Â I dug up the rest of the carrots and the garden is now closed for 2017.:) Browned some ground beef, then onions and garlic, add some of my homemade tomato sauce, oregano, fish sauce, salt, pepper and partially cooked macaroni. Cooked at 350F for about 45 mins. covered, then took the casserole to the kitchen oven to brown the cheese. Ready to add the cheese and put the casserole under the broiler. Ready to plate. Plated with corn and beets. Â Â Â
tony b
You caught my interest when I saw "fish sauce." Interesting addition.
MacKenzie
Thanks, Tony. 1.5 t with 1 lb of ground beef and 8 ozs of macaroni.  I had a red pepper I grew and meant to put that in but forgot and the next time I'd add something to make it a little hot.  It was very good though and I did have to servings.

Bruce Pearson
Mac that looks yummy! Can you taste fishy with the fish sauce? I have been thinking about buying some.
tony b
@Bruce Pearson - get the good stuff. There an incredible balance of flavors when done well. Very Umami. Cheaper stuff is very salty. https://smile.amazon.com/Red-Boat-Premium-Fish-Sauce/dp/B00B617XK2
MacKenzie
Bruce, you know how I hate that fishy smell/taste but that is not present in the dish. Â Red Boat is only $35 on Amazon Canada, you are getting a real deal, Bruce. Edited November 15, 2017 by MacKenzie

MacKenzie
Aussie, this is the official recipe but I did substitute my homemade tomato sauce for the canned tomatoes that get pureed any way.
