I thought you had to have one before you could get a KK.... It's pretty much the only useful device I had before I got the KK, well besides maybe the refrigerator.

Sanny, I think he may be referring to the Guru/Stoker hole (the bigger hole) I got a kill plug with my Guru, I don't know what you get with a Stoker. I'm pretty sure someone 'round here did get a stoker.

I use mine to hold the heat deflector (or other hot stuff) above the table when removed from the grill. Otherwise - not real useful IMHO - I thought it was discontinued also, perhaps he's just sending out what's in stock.

Do you only drink this straight or are there ways to mix it?

Bobkat, Get high temp silicone at an auto parts store, but I wouldn't put any on the Tel-Tru, no reason, it won't fall out and it's actually useful to be able to rotate it. I like to rotate it so my target temp is at 12:00 (straight up). It makes it easier to confirm it's at the correct temp from a distance. It's an old trick used in aircraft and race cars, turn the gauges so all the normal states are straight up, it makes it easy to see at a glance that everything is A-OK.

Here's mine... It's a JohnnyBoy! BTW - I had to drill my therm hole, as I recall, an 1/8" masonry bit, or a regular bit you don't really care for will do nicely, some of the interior coating gets into the hole stops the probe from penetrating fully.

What's 500 lbs among friends?? Now what? A good appliance truck can handle one, maybe you could back a pickup up to the trailer and hand truck it into the pickup then lower it from the pickup. Still requires about 3 people or 2 real bad asses! Good luck, and don't forget, the average human is 30% stronger within a 6' radius of a KK and one person can lift one if it has one of DJ's plugs in it!!!

If I may.. I believe the claim of more even heat is referring to the radiant from above, not the heat from below. The OTB shape has a more consistent spacing of the lid-to-grill over a greater percentage of the grill area than the classic shape. Certainly passes the logic test: sounds reasonable. I've never used a round style (of any brand) and I don't plan to temp test this one. I used to like the round shape myself, and even thought the POSK was good looking, now when I see a POSK all I see are the legs... and then I can't stop thinking about several types of bird that have REAL skinny legs. bleh

Got mine too. Did a low a slow, I put in three pieces of lump and cooked 12 butts, had a continuous burn for 56 hours, had enough fuel left to sear 4 steaks and cook 3 pizzas. I shut it down and saved the extra for the next cook. I'm not saying these things are good, but my car is getting 15% better mileage, and my hair is growing again!! I won't bore you with my stock portfolio or my love life, but you get the idea. The plugs rock!!
