Dennis, any chance of an ultrasound of the new baby? I want to see if it's a boy or a girl, lol!
-
Re: KK question P.S. I did flag the post.....

Re: KK question Emily, very clever spamming there! My hat is off to you!
-
Re: New KK finally ordered Dennis said he will watching over my new cooker. I can't wait to see the first ultra-sound image, lol!

Re: New KK finally ordered Shucks, it only took me a couple weeks, lol! I placed the order tonight also!

Re: New review on About.com Reviews appear 1-3 days after you post them. In other words, they are moderated and Derrick doesn't get right on them, lol.

Re: New review on About.com Done. I pointed out that a comparable Egg is an XL in a nest, so a KK is only 3 times the cost, not 5 times. But a great review by Derrick.

Re: New review on About.com It worked for me. OOps, now 1 minute later it doesn't. Try this: http://bbq.about.com/b/2011/05/13/new-r ... -grill.htm

Re: Pebble tile or Square tile? Ok, the polls have closed (for those of you who don't have FB, lol). The final tally was something like 28, 11, 2 votes for cookers 1 2 and 3. So, I'm going to give the wife one last time to think about it and then cooker number 1 may be the ticket! Now, is there a primer thread on taking delivery, etc.? Thanks!
-
Re: Pebble tile or Square tile? Well, so far the tally is #1 - 24, #2 - 9, #3 - 2. It is pretty much down to these three. The wife likes the pebbles and the electric blue pebble is out of the question, lol!
-
Re: Pebble tile or Square tile? Ok, I'm conducting a poll on Facebook as to which color I should choose. I'm 99% sold on the pebble. If you are a friend of mine in FB (or want to send a friend request to Doug Hanthorn) feel free to vote. So far, I find the results very surprising! Here's a link to a simulation of the three colors on my deck: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/photos/kk2.jpg

Any thoughts as to which you would prefer? I think I like square, wife likes pebble. Of course, that means it will have to be pebble, but let's pretend I have free will here....

I'm presently working on purchasing a brand new lovely KK for myself and thus need to sell the 23" Textured Supreme O.T.B. cooker that Dennis provided me for the review I did back in mid-2006. You can read the review here: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/productreviews ... ado/kk.htm The cooker is located in Raleigh, NC and of course, you need to pick it up if you purchase it. I'll be putting it on Craig's List later, but I thought I'd give you all chance at it first. Some of you may remember that this cooker was damaged in transit to a buyer. Dennis sent the buyer a whole new cooker and let me have and repair the damaged cooker. The damage consisted of a bashed up front edge on the lower shell. I fixed it with JB Weld. You can see photos of the damage and repair here: http://www.nakedwhiz.com/ceramicrepair/ ... repair.htm If anyone is interested make me an offer. Just for reference, this cooker cost $1800 new in mid-2006, before the damage, of course. If you have any questions, of course, contact via my website email link or at dhanthorn at nc dot rr dot com. Thanks!

Three Extruder Machines are in the House!
TheNakedWhiz replied to DennisLinkletter's topic in Extruded Coconut Charcoal
Re: Three Extruder Machines are in the House! What? No wood chips sticking out the sides? No curvy bent pieces? No oval shaped holes down the middle? -
Re: Leg of lamb cooked in hay The blog post he linked to pretty much explains it all.

Re: Tru Tel Options** "Is it more important to know how low under 200º you're running or how much over 750º?" That's why I have a couple of each model. Also note, if you haven't already, that Tel-Tru says that the 1000 degree model should only be above 800 degrees for limited periods of time. Of course, they don't define limited.

Re: Hickory Charcoal I think Kingsford is the only one with "all that junk". I don't review briquettes unless there is some special reason that has grabbed my fancy, but all the ones I've read about other than Kingsford have been just charcoal and binder. I think the main objection to briquettes other than Kingsford has been the ash volume. In the KK, you have a huge volume to accept the ash. In BGE, for example, it builds up rather quickly. Another consideration is that the ash builds up on the briquettes, so the heat output goes down if you are grilling unless you knock that ash off. But I know what you mean about the automatic. Shoot, next thing you know, I'll be wearing Spanx. (or rather, my barrel will be wearing Spanx)
-
Re: Hickory Charcoal I just happen to have some of that and will be doing a review. Their math is a bit suspect however, since they omit the ash and moisture content. But we'll see how it ranks with all the others.....

Re: Afire Natural Coconut Charcoal I stand corrected. I burned some KK Sustainable and there was no white powder. However, I've seen it also on some lump charcoals, South American woods, if I recall correctly. I have no evidence to support this, but my theory is that all charcoal produces some sort of fine powder like the white powder we see sometimes from some brands of charcoal. If the powder is white, we see it. If it is gray or darker, we don't. But I don't feel the white powder is an issue to be concerned about.
-
Re: Afire Natural Coconut Charcoal I'll add that almost all coconut charcoal leaves a white ash. The original charcoal from Kamado that was sourced out of the Philippines coated the inside of the cooker with a white powder. I think it is the nature of the beast.
-
Well, coconut charcoal isn't exactly lump charcoal, so you might not think to check. I doubt they have changed the product, I just hope that this new bulk box contains what they say it contains. It gets even more expensive if they don't ship you the entire weight. Good luck!
