  1. Sooo, if I understand correctly, we fellows can be hit because our wonderful wives are mad about something in their dreams and if they break a cooker we are still in the wrong. Pick out the 19.5' KK and tell your wife that you did go for the lower priced KK but if she insistes you would be happy to change to its larger brother. Either way you will be in the wrong but will have a wonderful KK to use. Just to let you know, my wife likes me to use our KK 3-> 4 days a week. Ach weel, such is life --- never question your good luck!
  2. The Dalmatian (the spotted one) looks nice but, I need to see the $ before I know if our younger son gets one for his deck in KY. I don't have a spare BGE to give him. As a young single fellow he should really by earning scads of money not thinking of what to b'q.
  3. Hey our younger son (single fellow) just mover to Richmond KY and told me that I should make a home warming present of our 9 month old KK and that I should order a new one for us because I donated a large BGE to his brother since it is no longer in use at our home. While that might please Dennis, I/he will just have to wait. Poor fellow
  4. Well the day was not a complete loss if the porterhouse was great and the pulled pork was also good. And, Sanny lives closet to you and likely would help you eat whatever is left of the steak and/or pulled pork. BTW, the latch has two position; the first is a good place to 'burp' the KK and not have flames greet a loved one. I know that you will be useing your KK everyday this Our KK is nicknamed 'The Dragon' in honor of 'Komodo' and the beige tile work of art that makes it look like a dragons egg; the heat on the inside is what makes the Dragon really good considering that the outside stay cool most of the time.
  5. Our older son lives in Cleveland Heights, I might be able to share a pallet with you, in return I could bring some dragons breath lump from Rochester (see "wiz's" review, the dragons breath works real fine.
  6. We received our 2.... in Early winter and have been cooking, grilling, smoking since then. You will be the same way with yours; no mistake on your part. It probably won't float too well though. If the floods hit it might be a good idea to chain it in the most protected place you have, when the waters recede your's might be the only place to cook in town.
  7. For me taller is better; long tongs help when cooking down by the hot coals (steaks etc.) The point about about pain in back when washing in the sink is also true. I'm 6'2" and do appreciate the extra height, of course my wife who is 5'6" likes things a little lower but she does not use the KK and prefers thart I do all the grilling & slow cooking. Poor me, I'll just have to suck it up and do the grilling etc.
  8. I guess by the condition of the worm, if you drink more than your body weight, that stuff will kill you. I guess that you shouldn't breathe on the charcoal after having a few shots either.
  9. If anyone thinks a KK is heavy, wait until they try to slide an M1 A1 around. All that metal probably doesn't have much insulating properties the way that a KK does.
  10. 1) To make my low and slow go without tiny pieces falling through between the rods I have placed a 9" cast iron sewer stainer/vent in our basket before lighting. The dust that filters down is not filled with pieces of unburned charcoal and the amount of dust is extremely small. 2) The trap door is used by me to add various chunks of wood (pecan, apple, cherry) as long cooks go o, I have never run out of charcoal after 20 hr. cooks(small piglet). Enjoy all the comments that are passed on the forum.
  11. The steaks with the smoked garlic were great! We were too busy to take images, but, my sister-in-law came over with baked potatoes and fresh picked strawberries including the whipped cream ---- she receives a steak & we put some garlic on the potatoes--- did not think the strawberries would go with garlic. All foods were good and no vampires came around.
  12. Sunday--- Father's day 2008--- after several weeks of traveling around New York State we are back home in Rochester. At this time I have pecan wood smoking 10 whole heads of garlic. Since our KK can manage a slow smoke we are off to the local Wegman's for some prime Angus strip steaks. We can afford them because our two boys are living in Cleveland and Las Vegas. The smoked garlic will be spread on the beef while it stands awaiting consumption. Southern imported sweet corn will fill out the menu. We just love the KK!
  13. Carly it is, just was checking to see if I'm too old to remember. Good friends, good food cooked on/in a great instrument, and a cold beer, with warm regards to Omar Kyam, also a loaf of Sanny's olive bread.
  14. I am not too sure, but, Drunk J has posted our KK in matte terracotta for reference and the white snow should be easy to balance on your monitor. Of course a Kodak 18 % grey card would be ideal. Scouterpf ( and the snow is finally gone.)
  15. I still have not figured out the digital image thing despite of o forum offer to post an avatar. I have a number of images of our KK working in the snow. I slow cooked and then added smoke to a Brisket (cured as told in the old stand-by "Joy of Cooking" Low and slow for almost all pork, etc. Of Course a hot sear just before a thick steak is served is always good; hot, hot, hot for thick cut Tuna is the way to go. Thanks Dennis for such a GREAT and VERSATILE cooker. In the cold and snow with a KK is the way to go ( I am sure it will also work in the warm of the summer also.)
  16. After closing the bottom damper, put the fireplace gloves on, crack the latch, gently open the top, use tongs to remove the steaks, close the top, then gently close the top damper. But first read : these words from the whiz--- http://nakedwhiz.com/flash.htm

    Side tables

Drop the attached tables (R&L) and the hips might be more pleasing when in the Jammies

    Side tables

Dennis: are the tables ready to go? I would like both Left and Right; I plan to order Johnie's Jammies for our dragon but would like to have the tables on first. THANKS
  19. Dang, are all close to you OK, we just heard of earth quakes! Best of life to all from the state side crowd!!
  20. Wow, what a nice looking girl! Our younger son is an engineer (&almost23) so he is not available; don't know what you use as a substitute for ball bats but you had better start looking now.
  21. Scouterpf and Mrs Scouter enjoyed 2" medium rare prime Black Angus strip steak that the local Wegmans (real name of a top notch super market ((Wegmans.com))) over Valentines evening along with fresh green beans and wine!! NO images .... too many other things on our minds. Never had better anywhere! Prime and Sanny lick your lips in anticipation should you ever visit Rochester, NY.
  22. SOOOO... do they taste like chicken or squirell?
  23. I wonder if we can cook the naan by smooshing it against the top 1/2 of the KK or is that a no-no; the well smoked lid should be good-to-go.
  24. Perhaps send this to http://www.travelchannel.com/tv-schedul ... 19.33074.3
