  1. Re: Congrats to Chris Lilly 2011 World Champion I have not been to Alabama to visit, perhaps this summer, but I try to do is cook as good as I can following Chris's lead and , of course, using our KK --- just up north on the SOUTH SHORE of Lake Ontario!. Congratulation to Chris and Big Bob Gibson's.
  2. Re: Cucumber Water It is no longer snowing but cold raining days are the norm lately; so a fire in the Rhumford, slowly cooking fresh ham in our KK, my best and only girl next to me, cucumber water with Pimms Cup close by! life is good! Enjoy no matter what the weatherman brings.
  3. My wife CarolAnn and I became very proud owners of KK # 380 in 2008. this past summer (2010) our "Dragon's Egg" developed structural problems from the batch of bad springs mentioned here on the forum; after talking to Dennis and the sending of images our Dennis said that a new gen2.2... would be sent to us at no charge. Wow, the "Dragon" arrive on December 23 with all the improvements; the one that really impresses us and my always hungry neighbors is the impossible gasket. Dennis is really a terrific manufacturer who does not follow the old adage of buyer beware, instead, he strives with every word and deed to be the very best and make his customers the most satisfied people on our good earth. The following is what I e-mailed to Dennis. Merry Christmas, Well it seems as if our original “Dragon’s Egg†has grown into a full grown Dragon. The crated “Dragon 2.2†arrived in snowy Rochester, NY this A M. The delivery man brought it to our back yard and with the help of myself and a neighbor it is now on our deck. My wife and I had to disappoint a roving band of beavers by unbolting the upper part of the crate; our local recycle truck was just too near to ignore; we also did not know how the beavers would react to wood that was part of the shipping process. I am sending you images of the Dragon as soon as the electrons permit. Our snow is the remains of a 22 inch snow fall earlier in the month and it is snowing again. Thank you for your wonderful product and outstanding service. P.S. I have no images to show all you of the Dragon or the meats that have been done on the Dragon; the food disappeared as fast as they were done since December 24. Images will arrive soon.
  4. Re: Happy Holidays to all Happy Holidays to all. What do you call someone that listens to your problems and if his product has difficulties at your end replaces it ( ours did and was )? Our new KK is doing its first low and slow in 20F weather and 12 in. snow. I will tell the world that Dennis is the very best manufacturer and friend of all! Merry Christmas Dennis and family, Paul Farnung [scouterpf]
  5. Re: Cucumber Water Hello again Sanny. Try enjoying this with your best friend (in this case my wife) when the snow is falling and a warm fire in the fireplace. Superb!

    Coffee

Thanks to a tip from Dennis I bought an Aeropress coffee maker. This coffee maker / french press combination makes superb coffee with NO grounds and is a good show when we have visitors! Thanks Dennis. Scouterpf
  7. Re: Anyone figured how to double seal foodsaver bags new mod on my upright if I want / need a double seal I either push a little further in once the seal starts or seal then remove and start over and when seal starts pull back somewhat; there are about 1.5" to play with above the seal.
  8. Re: Sanny Welcome back on line, we all hope that all is right with you!
  9. As a diabetic (type 1) I cannot use the sugar but as I am constantly making gallons of plain tea for icing I will make up some Southern style for my friends that have moved up North. This ought to make them even more at home when visiting to eat the wonders that come out of our Dragon's Egg' KK. Thanks!
  10. Finally made some cucumber water (with a sliced 1/2 lemon). Put the pimms cup in the tall glass with ice and filled with the cucumber water it is good this past week when it was 90F
  11. Black walnut can be very strong if used in large quantities; I suggest that small (2->3 inch) be used one at a time. Walnuts removed from the outer shell also work, but again use one nut at a time to establish what you need to smoke with as too much is way too much.
  12. Leave alone; I suppose that special orders could be done at a high price, remember that if you need to ask the price you cannot afford it
  13. I am hoping to grill some fresh water perch should I I be fortunate to to catch several possibly small mouth bass if I am very lucky
  14. We wanted to try two methods --- wanted to set the whole works on fire but reconsidered when we thought that the wheels might also burn off and then thought of having a roving band of beavers chew the wood away; we ended by strong arming with four large fellows easing our KK off.
  15. A nice idea; bad news for those of us that have already bought ours. Keep up all the good ideas and great customer relations.
  16. The videos bring back memories of my childhood and reminds me that the pork of today does not taste like the pork of yesterday (for the most part); also that it is not a good thing to make a pet of the family swine if you will be using it in the late (cold autumn).
  17. I use "Dragon Breath" lump charcoal; I have used ca. 300 # of the lump with 1 small stone in all of that. Dragon breath works extremely well and seems to last forever with little ash; the sellers also live and sell near me also makes it very attractive for me to use in our KK 'Dragon's Egg' When I started out using "Wegman's" brand the bags were smaller but I never found a single stone or rock.
  18. Howdy neighbor, we live in Rochester, NY and use our KK "Dragons Egg" year round. Covering the KK is probably a good idea but do not close the top damper too tight before the coals are out and everything is cold as you might have a frozen top --- no problem really as the next day's relight will unstick it. I have had long cooks during snow storms and snow mounding on the KK -- never had snow buildup on our previous 'egg' it always was warm / hot to the touch in the winter with the snow melting off. For us the KK is worth every penny and the results are always wonderful.
  19. Happy Birthday! I celebrated here by cooking beef back ribs and fresh corn accompanied by guiness. Brilliant!
  20. Soon as I can figure out how to send images I will send an image of our 16.5 yr wheaton terrier on the forum. She is slowing down quite a lot lately; I am sure she will join all our good pets in a doggy afterlife. I am saddened by the loss that you all feel; rescue a friend in the new year and you will be rewarded by much love.
  21. Either way, I didn't have any helpers help me me that looked like these ladies(?) while I was having a shoulder replaced. I hope to have our Dragons Egg heating up soon with good food (not hospital food) cooking. Happy New Year to all the KK'ers out there!
  22. As any Girl Scout or Boy Scout could tell you / us Sanny is correct.
  23. The add for Vernor's was (Vernor's -- va va voom!) I agree with Sanny.
  24. We use a kitchen aid grinder set on finest -- makes good expresso when we need it, it also works well in the rub. BTWI have taken to adding 1/3 cup cocoa to the rub.
  25. Those of us that live on the US north shore have had rain and more rain this summer. This morning Rochester, NY has still more rain, yes, I do believe that the grass grow more abundant with each drop. Our 'dragon's egg' looks much like yours. Enjoy
