  2. DJ, I understand wanting/preferring the short close sears. Not sure I understand what you mean by having the fire outside the firering not being good for the KK. Again for those who don't know I have the POSK. The way my firering is designed it didn't do anyting to keep the fire contained inside the firering. The coal basket sits centered on top the firering not under, allowing fire to go anywhere. I've even heard folks use charcoal outside the basket, directly on the firering. The only part of the coal basket below the firering is a short metal chimney of sorts that has a notch in it to accomodate the gas starter. (throat if you will to direct air entering the draft door to the coals.) Long story short; my firering turned into sand a long time ago. It's not even there anymore. My coal basket now sits on a couple bricks only so I can squeeze the gas attachment under. Otherwise I'd set the basket on the floor of the K. Seems to me not having the firering hasn't made any difference. I'm still confused about how the firering in the KK "contains the fire" as to not damage your grill. And why raising and lowering the basket (without the firering) would be any problem? Raising and lowering coals on charcoal grills is a fairly standard mode of operation. Just not sure if your justification warrants not going that direction. We really need to find out from Dennis if raising the charcoal basket and not the firering will hurt anything. Again, I still don't like the thought of being down inside a 600-700 F degree hole to sear steaks. Too easy to burn yourself, plus too easy to get arms dirty with soot/grease. Who wants to screw with trying to get that stuff off your arms while your preparing to eat.
  3. Mungeti, Fetzer let you off the hook too easy ....... Welcome to the club Mungeti!!! You don't really know what you've done yet, but you're gonna like it I guarantee it! And I hope you can take a bit of ribbin' and jokin' during collaborations here on the forum. Because I don't know, but I'm pretty sure your classmates at Univ of Iowa will be dissapointed you selected Omaha over Iowa City!! May even be good bribe material, eehhh? Welcome again. We're here to help each other; if any questions don't hesitate. Go Hawkeyes!!!!!!!!
  4. I dunno DJ; looks like pretty good innovation to me. What baffles me is why you want to sear steaks in the bottom of a hole. If it's to get your steak close to the fire; why not put your efforts toward a way to raise the fire so you can use the main grill? That's one thing I like about the K5 size is we can sear without going into a hole to do it. My hopes are the KK 19.5 will be similar.

Guess I'm taller than most; but it hurts my lower back leaning over the kitchen sink just doing dishes. That's 30 inches. For that reason; my next home I'll order with even taller counters. Again, if I have a vote I'll vote for a taller grill; and if I have choice, I'll purchase taller before lower. I'm with Primeats on this one. My sewing layout tables are taller than standard for the same reasons.
  6. Zorro, assuming you want sort so recent posts display on top. Have you tried using the "View Unread Posts" link? My first time using that feature brought up more posts than imaginable; more than I could possibly read through, so I read some and got out. Second time resulted the same results; so I forgot about ever using it again. Then struggled from then on to find "new, unread" posts; until one day I tried "View Unread Posts" agan, this time I noticed an active title named "Mark all forums as Read". I clicked that option (of course cleared every unread post); but from then on, clicking "View unread Posts" displays only those posts since my last visit. Works great.

  8. Expense is soon forgotten! Plus the age factor. We're not all young like we used to be Sanny; that bending over not so comftorable anymore. So if there's choice; I'll take the tall one. I don't want another Hibachi. Oh the price of comfort.
  9. Higher Dennis. Make em' counter height, stove top height, 32" or 34". Mo' comfortabe, mo' betta' Just my $.02 worth.

    K or KK

Amazes me! Guess I'm giving away my age; what the heck, I'm 52. But the collaboration amongst people here is amusing to me. What would we have done 20 years ago? And; most important I think is. I can put a lot of trust into what I read on these forums, and I'll tell you why. I've made custom covers for these cookers for a long time, maybe 4 years now, and still do. So I get to know these people. I haven't met a bad one yet. I understand frustrations of posters when I read their posts; I've been there. Where else do we release!, but unfortunately at times are misunderstood. With that said; I can honestly tell you I've never had one problem with any customer, payment, anything, not one. Hate to admit it, mistakes have all been on my end. But that's what's important to me as building covers to order specs, there's some trust involved. So I think that says something for a community, been an interesting observation for myself. And since not everyone has the opportunity to observe that; thought it's worth sharing.
  11. Remove the fire ring/box ?......... Would that be the two-piece ceramic part, holds charcoal basket? If so, is it really a good idea to be messing with that? I have the other guys brand, and man you don't want to move it if you don't have to. Like moving a sandcastle.
  12. Very awesome Whiz. Best reason ever! Thanks Can you tell us the details. Do you use your cooker? Few of them; entertainment by BGE, ...... Thanks, John
  13. We're working together on a cover design for BGE. I've been trying to contact him for a few days now; no response. I'm getting a little concerned about him, and hope all is well. I've messaged on his forum, email, pm here, but no responses.
  14. Get to work Dennis; make one for the 19.5 too! For what ever it's worth; I know it get mixed reviews. But, I like the ash tool from K. Take a cardboard carton, line with trash bag, slide it under the door, and pull out the ash using the ash tool. Works great long as you're not cleaning on a windy day. I too like to pack the ash until I can't pack anymore. Don't ask me why, but I think packing the ash adds something. Caution using shop vacs, Hot Embers! And not all shop vacs can handle the ash. It tends to clog my Craftsman shop vac filter. End up spending more time cleaning that than anything.
  15. For those who don't know It was our lovely Sanny who coined the term "Johnnyboy Jammies"!
  16. Primeats, I think DJ already moved it. I considered asking DJ to change "Jammies" to "Covers" so the unknowing would have an idea what the thread is about. But then I thought maybe Jammies is better, because it creates interest. Oh yea, Fetzer reported he's okay.
  17. Primeats wrote: Yea, looks like Mighty Mississippi crested here (called off the volunteer sandbaggers), but the crest is still moving south and wreaking havoc along the way. C.R. is bad-bad as I'm sure your friend told you. My son lived/rented there two years ago. He was next to the river so his place is definitely under. In fact he just called me. He's owns his own semi with his own DOT authority. Evidently FEMA is there and rating lots of homes, entire areas, as uninhabitable, meaning they'll be destroyed. He's wondering if he couldn't benefit (since we live close) by finding a dump trailer and hauling debris. He's just not sure who to contact. I suggested he contact the refuge companies in the area; but maybe he needs to contact FEMA.
  18. Thanks Sanny!!! I especially appreciate your noticing the seams! Interlocked double sewn seams are fast becoming a thing of the past. Next time Sanny (or anyone else), contact me with measurements. I build AC covers too. Most anything you can measure I can build a cover for.
  19. Grandfather clause!!!! Please, Please, Please ............ Say........ back to 2 May, when we exchanged emails.
  20. Thanks Duk! Glad you're happy. Appreciate the feedback. Thanks again.
  21. Nice, nice, nice Bobvoeh!!! That's what I'm talkin' bout'!

  23. Sanny wrote: Good Idea Sanny! Because it doesn't look like you'd get much coffee; if someone wants it for coffee. But, does look like the right amount of black pepper for a butt eehhh? That's what I'm talkin' bout'. Yea baby!!!
  24. Majestic, What are you "Yes-ing" to; being a joke or being DJ's Son?
  25. Damit Cozy; I got to have one. I just need to figure out if I want it to match the others, or go with something different. Looks like it'll make grinding much easier for those big jobs like ribs, butts, briskets. Doing the big jobs, twisting of the other style mills gets a bit hard on the old arms/hands after awhile. I think you just solved that.
