  1. Well Komodo the star part 3...sort of.. While I can't bring the KK into the NBC studio. I plan to cook all the products that will be displayed, in the KK. For anyone in the Chicago area look for me on NBC5 Sunday morning at 9:00, someone cancelled and I've been given a second concurrant segment to further explain what and how I did everything! Too bad Dennis can't be in the area, bet we could get him on Oprah! Now that she's off her diet(again) this could be one of her favorite things?!? This is to obviously get ready for Thanksgiving..gonna try the ice pack on the breast, just sounds very logical! And of course brining, rubbing with spices and DON'T BASTE THE TURKEY!
  2. Ok just got off the phone with BBQ Guru, they are sending me a call tag to pick up the probes, so I better cook now while I can!
  3. That would be too easy, it's an integrated plug, so I used the temp probe for as the pit probe and the caymen clip I jammed into the pork roast. Worked prety good, but when I pulled the clip out of the roast, the clip came off inside the roast. I took that slice.
  4. I've tried with great success lighting some hardwood lump -not much- and loaded it up with the KKEC. it's worked very well for me, and by the time the KKEC starts, the hardwood has been long consumed by the fire. The fire, when cooking is done has always been snuffed out rapidly by th enormal methods!
  5. Ok, unless I just screwed up the easiest install ever or the folks at the BBQ Guru have mixed up the wiring for my replacement probes. The pit sensor registers the meat temp and the temp probe is showin the pit temp on the competitor base. The plug only connects one way so I don't think I messed up. I gave the folks at the Guru a note also. Thanks for your help.
  6. John, you cooked them perfectly! Too many folks still insist on cremating them. Keep up the good work!
  7. But, hey!? Where's the cooker? The hair looks like my '78 prom picture! My kids thought it was a picture of their Mom!

I thought you didn't have to do low temperature to cure anymore. Does that mean I did something bad to my kooker? I believe all of Dennis' newest generation cookers have all been pre-fired at the factory. That was only a recommendation on some of the previous models.....but not a necessity. -=Jasen=- _________________ I would drink BEER with a goat on a boat, in a box in my socks, in a car at a bar. 9. Congrats on your KK, you don't need to cure it, the've all been pre-heated at the factory. Y'know what though...I've done the same thing..and I'm pretty sure others have too
  10. Yeah that's what I thought, if any of you have an extra set of probes for the competitor I'd buy em from you, otherwise I'll just order them from BBQ Guru
  11. Well, I've finally done it... I melted the temperature probe wires on the unit that I bought from Tlinder! Any suggestions on a repair or should I just order a replacement from Fred?
  12. Great use of the tiles! Really works for that color scheme, can't tell if the pattern continues through to the top of the lid, too much glare.
  13. John, my wife doesn't need to write, she can communicate telepathically, or at least she assumes I can receive her thoughts!
  14. Sometimes I can't tell if I'm dreaming or not! (my wife reads this stuff too)
  15. If any one has a way to contact Jeffoms (Jeffrey Halpern) from the Chicago area, can you let him know where he is able to locate some? I'll be in Cedar Rapids to pick some up whenever Fetz gets some shipped there. Or have him Email me. Thanks everyone, Dave
  16. I actually think the mounting bracket will work for me,maybe because I am not using an EzQue motor. The flex in the bracket allows me to pull out on the bracket enough to allow the shaft to insert itself easy enough in either the KK socket or the motor socket. At any rate the rotis is working just fine now--next cook will probably be a duck. Welcome back D, don't you just love the fan mail you've received while you've been away?!
  17. I just bought a new 5/16" + stainless shaft from Grainger, about 7 bucks. The fit was precise in the motor, but probably 1/32" to large for the socket in the KK. I just ground it down to fit, no wobble now from the motor, but a slightly perceptible wobble from the basket shaft inside the KK. I don't have a lathe(love to get one) and as such can't fabricate a duplicate shaft for the basket. I also think I may have come up with a very simple solution for preventing the thin steel motor mount fronm flexing during the cooking duration. I made a small slip on clamp from some 1/8" aluminum stock that was leftover: Sorry about the poor photo quality, all I had was my phone! this is the steel shaft material--extra in case I F**** (mess)it up this is the clamp I made, it's only about .5" wide, just wide enough to fit between the acorn nuts, and it's aluminum so it shouldn't scratch the stainless mounting plate on the body of the KK. This is the first one I made, it was too wide and could only fit on one side of the motor mount, the final version is thin enough to slip between the two acorn nuts, and will still allow the lid to close
  18. I love my KK, but not enough to sleep inside it. You better pay the ransom
  19. Thanks, Mike. We used a ramp, the ones you make with 2- 2x6's and the metal angled doo-hickey you would use to load something like a riding lawnmower into the back of a truck, my butcher Janus(John) and I then slowly lowered it down. It was going to be either very easy or very fast! Getting it back up the ramp was another story, took the lid off first, then pushed it up. Hey Dennis, thanks for using some very heavy duty casters!!! We must have printed about 20/30 flyers for the KK, actually ran out of ink..next time we'll use Kinko's! Some very impressed customers, we went through about 100 hot dogs, 150 bratwursts, and 100 Polish sausage and Bockwurst. Not bad for a little Mom and Pop outfit! The two kids made some pretty nice tips after working from 9 to 3 outside. After we closed at 5, I worked security(hah!) across the street at the Church Oktoberfest celebration for about two hours(only four beers..gratis, I work pretty cheap for the Church!) and then walked home(5 blocks). Pretty long day, my wife was still on the couch sleeping when I got home, good thing she didn't go to the party , I would have had a terrific headache the next day!
  20. Conodo said: It's what I do every day, just to make sure you could win a BBQ contest. It doesn't hurt to have the proper equipment though! And , as my Father always said "Even a bad cook can ruin good meat."
  21. Thought I might get you to post some new pics! Hey who made that nice canvas canopy!?
  22. John, drop dead gorgeous fireplace! Sure finding lots of "I wants" on this forum. I've been looking at several pre-fab units on the market, most poorly engineered. I even toyed with the idea of building a wood burning bread/pizza oven. And then.... Anyway, still thinking of installing an outdoor fireplace,my village currently prohibits any open flame, unless it's for cooking(we always have a bag of marshmallows available, although by now they're more like ceramic/portland cement nuggets). Guess I have to invite the village pres. for dinner and drinks!
  23. I've experienced the same rotis slip everyoone has mentioned, finally got around to using the ez que basket. The spring on the end of the shaft kept winding over the end and became to large for the opening, it kept pushing out of the motor. If there is a fix and the polder plugs have not been sent out yet, I could use two: one for me and one for Ronnie_Suburban. Thanks for the help people.
