  1. So................................when I pulled the pork from the KK, I put the thermometer back in the grill at the same vent settings and let it stabilize. Not bad for guessing at the settings ">http://http://s1013.photobucket.com/user/BeesWacker/media/20151224_133119.jpeg.html'> Got to love the consistency of the grills!!!!!!!!
  2. I started a Boston Butt cook this morning at 3:00 am for a 6:00 pm family party. Lit the grill, added the smoking wood and put 2 huge butts on the upper grate of the 19" TT and closed the lid. Opened the vents to get the temp climbing and sipped my diet pepsi. After about 30 minutes, I heard the juices starting to sizzle but the dome temp gauge wasn't moving????? WTH!!!! Then I realized the end of the thermometer was probably stuck in the meat !!!! The grill was cranking and I didn't want to disturb the cook (plus everyone was sleeping in the house)...so I pulled the thermometer and set the vents where they were on the last low & slow cook and came to work. I do have the meat thermometer in for internal temp but I'm going commando on the dome temp on this cook. We will see what happens!!!!!! Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays Everyone!!!!!!
  3. During one of my first cooks a small hunk of meat landed on my side table, leaving a stain on the beautiful finish of the teak. i cleaned it off and then started thinking about what I could do the preserve the finish. Thought about using a marine teak product like tung oil but worried about food compatibility. Then I remembered that Red Head Sue got me a tube of "Boos Block Board Cream". Basically bees wax.......why not give it a try??? Applied it and let it sit overnight. Wiped it off and I have to say it looks every nice. Dropped a few drops of water on the table and it beaded up perfectly. Did not go into the wood. We will report back on how it holds up and preforms over time.

  9. Point well made and taken. Humor can be very subjective. British humor is not for everyone. Please know........I did read through the joke section before posting to get a "feel" for what was posted in the past and based on what I read......felt that this video was "acceptable" to post. I also did put up a warning that it was a bit off color.................so that people that might be offended, would not view it. My intent was not to offend but to make a few people smile. I feel bad that you were offended...............but I'm sorry.......I still think that was funny!! Do appreciate what you are saying........................Agree to Disagree
  10. You will enjoy it more when you can take your time to play with all the cool features!!!!!

  16. Thanks for the feed back (everyone). Agree on the quality of the lump! Yes....I did hear about the 80 hrs........................but I thought it was just an "urban legend" until I joined this forum. Cooking with cocochar next cook!!
  17. Interesting/funny story...........The co-workers loved the pulled pork. Started eating it at 9:00am and then Sue reheated it with a little apple juice at lunch time. I was impressed to hear they didn't use much BBQ sauce on the meat. Most ate it as cooked on slider buns. The big boss really liked the food and told Sue that next year the company was going to buy the butt's and have her cook them up again for everyone as the main meal. There was a little pork remaining after lunch, so they put it into the refrigerator for the next day. When Sue went to get it the next morning for break............it was gone. She started asking around and found out that the big boss took it home. He told her it was so good he couldn't resist...plus his wife was out of town and he didn't want to cook. Holy crap...........didn't think my cook was going to cause problems with management and the staff...............
  18. I have to do another Boston Butt cook next week for a Christmas party. On my last cook, I overstuffed the charcoal basket. After seeing how much lump was left over, I will not make that mistake over again. That first overnight cook did get me wondering................have any of you KK owners ever had the buildup of ash choke out the fire on a long cook?? I have had that issue in the past when using my brand X ceramic cookers and have had to resort to a "wiggle rod" to knock the ash off the coals to keep the fire hot. Was just wondering if that was something I needed to worry about with the KK. I did notice a "hole" in the middle of my lump after the first cook but I did not experience any drop in temp over the 13.5 hour cook. Thanks in advance for your KK wisdom!!! Jon B.
