  1. Nope, no cheese in there. Just ground beef, a little sausage, the leafy ends from a celery bunch, onion, green pepper, A1, Worcestershire, thyme, crushed peppercorns, a handful of crushed saltines, and an egg to hold it all together. Covered the top with ketchup and brown sugar blend. That little morsel of meat was found in the package after I made the meatloaf, i tossed it on as a nibble for the chef but forgot it was there
  2. It has been a while, so I did another meatloaf tonight. I found a pizza pan in the drawer below my oven that works perfect for the task, too! Since any pizza i make come out of the KK, I figured i would give this pan a new lease on life. Its just a pizza pan with holes in the bottom. I was craving the grill baked skins, so I made some baked potatoes to bring in and mash. Ended up stuffing some of the skins upon request from my wife. The whole thing spent about 75 minutes on the grill, direct heat - 400 degrees, upper rack. No added smoke because ground meats pick up smoke very quickly. Results were fantastic. Behold the shiny new upper/sear grill. The one i had been using exclusively went to White Mamba's house along with my well-broken-in heat deflector. I will have to christen a bright white one on my next indirect cook
  3. Welcome, Lee! I have seen lots of creative ways to move a KK from the truck unloading point to the patio, but i think yours is the first time someone has used rollers like a pyramid builder!
  4. How about a shorter version that fits into a kitchenaid stand mixer
  5. You're missing the best part of this story... Not only did I give the dude a KK, but I waited the better part of a year for him to come and get it. I finally had to deliver the thing 900 miles to DC! But you have heard the old saying "a friend will keep you out of jail, a good friend will pay your bail, and a best friend will be sitting in jail with you saying 'damn, that was fun!'". Well, the mamba and I have sampled the breakfast menu in the police station a few times.
  6. Yeah, I was kinda wishing I hadn't given the thing away while I was sitting there watching it puff all weekend! But at least now I will have access to an acceptable grill when I come back to the homeland.
  7. Hey turtle, glad to see you are still around, and enjoying your KK
  8. Killing for eating is one thing... Slowly killing for fun is something different
  9. Bull: 1 Matador: 0 I'm with the doc, what a senseless "sport". I'm glad the bull got him.
  10. We are doing a butt, probably some ABTs and whatever else we see at the last minute while at the store. It's a bittersweet cook though- I have disbanded by family of wayward grills. I brought one if my kks to a friend, and am letting him have it, with the condition that I get to monitor it's happy life via the forum. So I'm kind of sad, this is my last cook on it, but his first of what I know will be many. He doesn't know what he has been missing The old posk has a new home too. After a visit to drunk_j's house this week for some welding on a new basket and door frame. So I will be down to one KK for a while. While we are on the topic of memorial day, let me thank all of our veterans for their service. I appreciate you kicking ass on my behalf!
  11. Your estimate is about right- a layer or less. But definitely fill the basket and take out what doesn't burn. It's cheap insurance, cause doc is right. Running out of furl is something you will only let happen once!
  12. Yeah, I can see how that picture would be hard to translate! You need to hire your rocket scientist back But even if they didn't follow the design, those are some sweet tables!
  13. I have not used a wok on a KK, but I have an idea of what you would need to watch out for if you try it. I do most of my higher temp grilling down on the lower rack, and when you have a hot fire going, it is absolutely scorching on your hand when you reach down in there to flip things over. I can imagine that if you put a wok on the lower rack, and got a fire hot enough to use a wok properly, the heat rolling up around the perimeter would seriously put a hurt on your forearms when you tried stirring it. But I have not tried it, so make sure you post back and let us know if you do! The simmering thing I have done, and it takes about 275 to 300 degrees to get baked beans to simmer on the upper grill. I sometimes put them up there with ribs on the main grate under them, and they dont thicken up much at all at 250 while the ribs are cooking. Ive also done pot roast, and needed about 300 degrees for that to simmer too. These are lid closed times, and I have noticed little difference between foil or ceramic vessels so I think cast iron will be about the same.
  14. I've got "kinfolk" that live up in the smokies...they have all sorts of ways to slay dinner without blasting it! You could have just left the door open and it would have almost walked into the pan!
  15. Did bacon stuffed peacock for lunch ever cross your mind?
  16. Ok, you send me a cover, and Dennis can send me a table and I will try it out for you

    abts

That's genius! Just when I thought abts couldn't get any more unhealthy than the cheese and bacon, you upped the ante on me with a cholesterol laced shrimp!
  18. I was never a fan of the original folding side tables, or the solid wood top, but the new design looks very nice. The only thing that would make it better, and have the best of both worlds, is a way to stow it when not in use. The fixed mount would be great, except I have been meaning to get a cover for my grills, which means laziness would prevent either the table from being used often, or the grill from being covered. So, how hard would it be to mount a couple of extra rods, that would allow it to hang on the existing mount, and even under a cover, when not is use? You get the convenience of moving it out of the way, without the expense of the expensive frame. Something like this:
  19. While doing some work for Chick-fil-A at their headquarters, the founder gave me a copy of a couple of his books. One of them, on the topic of raising children, had the following as a forward. After reading the second paragraph, I realized that Dennis shares more than just a last name with his grandfather.
  20. Looks pretty good from here (despite the crazy shape ). What did you end up using for a stone?
  21. I have a certain spot int he garden where I toss them...its turning into a pretty cool collection of various rocks in various colors and shades of char/patina.
  22. Freshly ground black people I wonder if the neighbor has any?
