I have been wondering, who has the KK gas door and uses it for cooking? I know Tony does, anyone else? Hows it perform? I have the gas option for my inferior branded cooker, and all it is good for is starting the fire, and at that it is only good at half throttle. Any more and there is too much soot and unburned gas. Trying to cook on the gas alone is impossible, the mixture is far too rich and the burn inefficient. The flames are all orange, soot all over, and if it goes out...well, that would be one way to fix all its problems How does the KK gas perform as a cooking fuel? Hows the temp range?

I think I have a good one, that I got from some of my Eastern TN kin-folk. I will see if I can find it and post it when i get home this weekend.

sounds like a trial run is in order! I suspect that you would get more of a steam, with the smell of burnt sugar than smoke, but give it a shot, You might be onto something. I always wonder how many plants our ancestors had to smoke before they found a few that they liked. If you cant cook with them, then you can use the KK to make a pot of apple butter. Just thinking about the smell of apple butter cooking over a wood fire has me hungry!

You'll be calling it pink after the first time you see it in the setting sunlight

Who is interested in some wholesale lump in Central FL?
Firemonkey replied to Firemonkey's topic in Komodo General
Yeah, I was considering making the same offer on another forum, but then thought I might be overwhelmed. Kind of like a flashback on a hot grill, with all of the lump-less people who have waited for a year for a collective purchase of a several hundred boxes of moldy wood that never arrived. -
Many of you likely know that I have been getting my lump from a produce distributor for quite some time. I have a family member who works there, and they would grab me a bag whenever I needed it. Well, the only reason they stocked it was because of Seasons 52, a restaurant who used it, as well as raw mesquite logs. Seasons recently had a kitchen fire, which was blamed on charcoal. Seems that the place caught fire in the overnight, likely because someone dumped ashes in the trash or something equally stupid. That caused Seasons to switch back to gas, and consequently my supplier to no longer stock the lump as a regular item. I can still get the lump, but need to take a whole pallet (25 bags, 40# each) to do so. I am trying to hook my buddy Curly up with 10 bags, which he will come get around Thanksgiving. I can keep a few bags, but I dont have room in the Garage to warehouse the rest. Would any of the Florida KK'ers be interested in some 40# bags of mesquite lump for about $9/bag? There are 12 bags still unspoken for, if you want more, that can probably be arranged as well.

Sanny, I still have a #5 that came from the same place yours did . It took me a few tries to find the right setup to get good results with pizza or bread. I tried the heat deflector on the lower bracket and a pizza stone on the main grill, but that burned the crust BLACK before the cheese even melted. I dont have an upper grill, but what I found success with is the heat deflector on the main grill, and a pizza stone above that with a little bit of space between them. I use some 1" aluminum spacers (intended purpose was as part of a Jeep lift) but you could do the same with some big nuts (as in "nuts and bolts", before DJ or Gerard get started on that one) or even pieces of broken pizza stone. With this setup, I get just enough residual heat in the stone to crisp and brown the crust without burning. Here is a link to a thread with pictures (the original "pink grill" thread): http://www.komodokamado.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=353 There is a picture of some bread that came from that same setup under "sourdough" in the bread section, too.

Those are pretty cool...If I had those nobody could call my grill pink anymore I suspect they recommend indoor use because prolonged sunlight will wreak havoc on them.

go for it...We have to have something to keep us occupied during those long cooks!

uh...yeah...thats what i meant (I had the same math teacher as Dennis ) You caught me on an early AM following an evening that would have made you proud. I am back in Missouri this week, where I lived for 12 years. Between official business and unofficial extra-curricular, I may not sleep all week

Two layers - actual insulation

This picture is a great addition, especially for new shoppers. Maybe the same picture with a ruler on it so people could guage the mass involved would make it even better? -
I am so tired that I read that as "Bum Wine"! I had a nice chuckle over this site a while ago: http://www.bumwine.com/ The have some pretty humorous reviews on there.

Dennis, Have you given any thought to the alternative grout products that do not require sealants? There are several, but I was intrigued by the flexible (and impermeable) ones that were designed for areas with heated floors. When my cooker (alleged to have been produced in indonesia by a 70+ year old fugutive who has since fled to Mexico) finally drops all of its loose tiles, I think I might give this stuff a try. It cant hurt, since its designed for areas with some degree of expansion. http://www.floorheating.ltd.uk/grouts.php

Its actually sandstone tan I posted some pictures where the light conditions and the camera made it appear to have a pinkish hue, and well, the rest is history. They almost had me believing it was pink! I was looking at it last week while I was cooking on it and said to myself, "thats not pink" When the tiles fall off, I am going to mail each of you one of them as evidence!

Sanny, Did you get the K supplied heat deflector with your grill?
-
oh yeah...South Beach would be a good market. Its actually is in saleable condition, and usable. I am just kind of put out by all of its RJ-isms, since I know they are precursors to full blown problems. I am still torn between ditching it, keeping it, or packing it with black powder and mailing it back to RJ with a short fuse.
-
Holy shit! What a plan! I will use it as a wishing fountain, and roll it down to Disney for Gay Days! It will be full of quarters in short order, and I will have funded its replacement!
-
Itsw still holding together, and the tile is still there. I havent used in in over a month, so it mightbe full of water or something by now. Maybe instead of a flower pot I can caulk the cracks and make a fountain out of it
-
...sitting quietly by since there is a now a new color in town to make fun of... I had quite the chuckle reading through that thread, though! Especially those 2 pics of Majestics K in all its glory! The flower pot idea is pretty funny, and would actually be a pretty useful retirement, but only someone who knows the story of K would see the humor in it, to anyone else, its just an expensive pair of flower pots.

Oh my God... I thought I was going to die from choking when I saw that picture!

Hmmm... I can offer the continual sunshine part of the equation, and no worries with the HOA (I am on the board ) Now, for the 100K thing, we might need some help.

wow, I did not know rosewood was toxic! I used to have a laser engraver in my garage, and did alot of work with rosewood. The vented smoke smelled great around the entire neighborhood! Kind of like pumpkin pie spice or something earthy like that.
