  1. Re: Bourbon-brined, Maple Smoked Turkey Thank you for the info. When the turkey is taken off the KK, wrapped in HD foil and towels, and put into a cooler, does the cooked, is it still cooking ? Thanks.

Re: New Owner The tank that I am using on my Mapp Torch is more than a year old.
  3. Re: Lump Charcoal source in Los Angeles Craig, The Charcoal Place is next door to a Supplier that I buy from. As for Carson, if it is possible, I can always pick up the CoCo as well. I have another supplier that I buy from in Carson as well. I don't know if Dennis will allow Customer Will Call. It would make it easier for me since I am down their a lot. I still have a box of CoCo left.

Re: New Owner Craig, Now you are cooking.
  5. Re: Bourbon-brined, Maple Smoked Turkey I want to make the Bourbon-brined Maple Smoked Turkey for Thanksgiving. My concern is finding a Turkey without the 8% Salt Solution. At the Store that is all they have, turkeys with the 8% Salt Solution. Where can I find a turkey without the solution ? Second item: Thanksgiving is at Brother-in-Law's house. Every year they do it at 12pm. That is another sore subject for another time. They live about 30 minutes away. What would be the best way to a) cook the turkey time wise, and best way to transport the turkey ? I would like the turkey to still be warm by the time we get there. Thanks.

Re: New Owner I use a Mapp Torch. It does a good job. If you choose to go with the torch, go with Propane.
  7. Re: Lump Charcoal source in Los Angeles I am sorry. I also go there for Lump Charcoal as well. Do not use mesquite.
  8. Re: Lump Charcoal source in Los Angeles I go to the Restaurant Depot for Royal Oak Lump Charcoal. 17lbs for $9. You need to have a Resale #.
  9. I would like to know what cleaners can be used to clean the Tiles ? I figure whiled KK is warming up, I could clean the tiles. Thanks.

Re: New Owner Congrats on the new KK. We don't know what you have been cooking/grilling prior to the KK. I would suggest as a first cook chicken. This way you can play with the vents to adjust the temperature and in an hour or less you will have dinner. In time you can do a Pork Butt. The KK is so versatile that you will want to try many things, from grilling steaks, pizza, bread, cookies, smoke Ribs, and on and on. Enjoy the journey.
  11. Re: Using a Wok on a Big Green Egg I did and it worked well. The Wok got really hot and it took a short time to cook. Cannot use a Wok with a handle.
  12. Re: Using a Wok on a Big Green Egg One thing to be considered about using a Wok on the KK is what size Wok will fit inside. Also at which level inside the KK would the Wok sit. I have a 16" Wok. I could see if it will fit inside and with The apparatus the Wok would sit on is another factor.
  13. Re: Using a Wok on a Big Green Egg The guy's name that owns The Ceramic Grill Store is Tom. He makes very good quality products. He would be glad to talk to you.
  14. Re: Would you buy a used BGE XL for $700 ? For $700 it's a good deal. With all those accessories you can't go wrong. I don't know how much time you spend at the 2nd house. I do know a lot of people on both EGG Forums Would jump on it. BGEs go really fast when they are on Craig's List. And the green isn't all that bad and it isn't "stucco".
  15. Re: Would you buy a used BGE XL for $700 ? The one accessory would be the Plate Setter. The other accessories are "aftermarket". Like a Lump reducer.
  16. Re: Would you buy a used BGE XL for $700 ? I would buy it. If you like cooking on a Kamado, especially the KK, the BGE will do just fine for your 2nd home. I bought my BGE XL 3 years ago and I use it when I need the extra cooking space. It works like a charm. You might need some accessories for it, like when you want to raise the grill. Check out Ceramic Grill Store website. $700 is a very good price. Also, go to greeneggers.com and check out the Forum. Very informative.
  17. Re: New Member, New KK Coming. How will I move it? If the driver has a Pallet Jack and if he is nice, he might be able to move into the backyard, if there is easy access. I put plywood on the lawn to make it easy for the pallet jack to roll the KK onto the concrete. It was a lifesaver.
  18. Re: One last accessory question - using a Wok I have had experience cooking on a Wok in a BGE. There is a guy who makes accessories for the BGE. The Ceramic Grill Store. One accessory sits on the Fire Ring and the Wok sits inside. I don't think Wokking in a KK is possible as we don't grill with the top open. I always close it. Also, the way the KK's shape is I would think the Wok would be small.

    Rubs

What are your favorite Rubs ? I like using Rubs from Simply Marvelous, Dizzy Pig, Butt Rub, and John Henry.
  20. Re: Compare... 19.5 KK vs One does not cook on all levels of the KK at one time. At least I don't.
  21. Re: Compare... 19.5 KK vs I do have a BGE XL along with the KK. To make other levels in my BGE, I made a grill with 4 Carriage Bolts, Washers, and Nuts. There is also someone who makes accessories for the BGE. I do use my KK most of the time.
  22. Re: Compare... 19.5 KK vs I would think the 19.5 KK is equivalent to the BGE Large. The 23" KK is the same as a BGE XL
  23. Re: Oregon Scientific Remote Thermometer Anybody here own an IGrill ? It's a Remote Thermometer that works with the IPhone.
  24. Re: vibrant Blue Pebble - Proud father to be! Welcome to the journey. I live in Canoga Park and I too own a KK. I got mine this past March. Congrats on the new addition.
  25. Re: Reverse Sear for Rib Eyes I am trying to get this down to a science or as they say, "practice makes perfect". I am trying to figure this time wise. At 275 - 300, roughly, how long will it take for 2" Ribeyes to get up to 90 degrees ? My wife picks up kids from Hebrew School at 6:15. Got an idea, since I have 2 steals I can try Dennis' way as well as Larry R.'s way. If I am going to do a reverse sear on both steak, might as well for R & D.
