Klee
It's here! Once out of the crate, it is definitely 'more' in every way compared to what you see on the KK website. It is quite sizeable 3-dimensionally and quite heavy (I cannot imagine what the 32" beast of a grill would weigh). I am going to build a custom island for it and will need to make sure the foundation can handle the weight. Color-wise, the gorgeous tiles are also more eye-poping compared to what you see on the website photo. I've attached a few photos for comparison but lighting (natural vs artificial) will make a difference in perceived color. There is also quite a difference in what KK calls "vibrant blue"; there are lighter and darker tile series and each grill is apparently unique. I picked one that closely matches our pool tiles First cook was babyback ribs using the excellent extruded charcoal and smoked with some hickory and apple wood. Hector
Great tile color you are going to have so much fun using your KK, I look forward to your BBQ photos.
jmagaram
Looks beautiful. I like those tiles. I wouldn't have picked vibrant blue from the photos on the KK web site but would now that I've seen them up close they are really varied and pretty. I'm curious how you find the size of the grill. Those small ones look so cute. I'm wondering how well it smokes - are the coals too close to the meat? And can you easily fit a whole chicken or two on there? I've got a larger one but have contemplated getting the small one for small cooks just for my family.

Klee
mk1: Thanks, looking forward to being part of the KK community! Hector: I've already used it twice. Definitely a learning curve but boy is the food tasty! jmagaram: I was thinking it would be a cute little smoker too but it turns out to be fairly large. I've attached some pix with various common objects to give you an idea of its size. For example, it is much taller than a bag of Royal Oak lump. As for grate size and capacity, I placed a Weber chimney on the main grill grate and Vibrant Blue completely swallowed it up! With a 14 Q Rubbermaid bucket, I was finally able to find something that touched the ceiling of the cavernous lid. The lid still closed completely though. So yes you could easily put a whiole chicken or two on there at the same time. Or a medium sized turkey. For smoking, I placed the heat deflector on the handles of the charcoal basket. The main grate is 3-4 inches above the deflector. See photo below. Seemed to work fine. I double checked the Tel Tru thermometer using a digital device placed just below the main grate (and above the deflector) and they did indeed sync up after about an hour. I'm guessing this meant that the cooker was fully heat soaked. Ducaticraig: I was actually inspired to get this one after seeing yours tony b: My first cook was babyback ribs. Here's a pic after 4 hours of cook time and smoking with hickory and apple wood on the rib rack. I had just put the slabs on the sear grate and painted on some sauce to caramelize. It was dark as it took me 2 hours to fully heat soak the cooker. Just being cautious the first time out I am planning to do the venting this weekend and then fire up some pizza at high temps. Any recommendations or tips regarding the venting process?
tony b
Just follow Dennis' directions on the venting and you'll be just fine. It's a simple process. Just stay on top of it and it goes pretty smoothly. I didn't have any tiles bubble, but you do smell it as it's offgassing. Good Luck! Check out the forum posts on pizza to get you stoked for doing yours!!
normstar
I had a few cracks appear in the grout, but it was very simple to apply more grout over the cracks after it cooked. Haven't had an issue since, and Dennis is always willing to help if you have questions.
Klee
Thanks tony b and normstar. I had a few tiles get soft but no bubbles or cracks. I did smell the solvent offgassing, although it wasn't very strong.
bryan
Stunning! Welcome and hang on, you're in for the ride of your life! But, dude, where's the food porn? Rule #1 of the Forum - no food pictures, it didn't happen! That 's true but all KK eats are over the top and the recipes are still winners. All recipes and techniques are appreciated. Pictures are great but not a requirement. I am a no picture member that likes to share. I encourage all members both new and old to participate in the forum and not worry about pictures They can always come later. Or Not. tony b
Having been the recipient recently of challenges to the authenticity of my cooks, due to lack of photographic evidence, I can say that if you can't stand the heat, don't stand next to the KK without a camera!!
