  1. I've been using this for years. In fact, I have two extra to make sure if it's discontinued I have backups. http://www.harborfreight.com/propane-torch-with-push-button-igniter-91037.html The handle is not as long as the JT850, but you don't need it. I use this with the charcoal in place and the grill grate in place as well. The flame coming out is long enough to reach the charcoal from above the grill. Hot coals in 5 minutes. Yet it's still very efficient with propane, 20lb bottle lasts me about a year with 2-3 starts per week.
  2. This is actually the burner I've been using for about 6+ years. I'm on my second one. It works well, I'm ready to put meat on in 5 minutes or less, and a 20lb propane bottle lasts about a year and a half.
  3. now if that were Louisiana, they'd turn that ship into an apartment complex, but with the Aussies I don't know.
  4. Actually I did order the sleeving , just forgot mention it...... McMaster is great, company uses them for many supplies, amazing thing is we only pay for ground shipping yet receive everything (almost) next day from Chicago, Atlanta or LA to Houston!!!
  5. Just bought some high-temp silicon stoppers to fit the probe hole .53" ID I think and the guru port hole (1.56" ID I think). I ordered two different sizes for each hole just to see which fits better. Ordered from www.mcmaster.com They're supposedly good to 600 degF. I'll let you know how they work, and post the appropriate sizes and part numbers.
  6. Stubbs is my personal favorite. I'm surprised they tested that. Surprised it's even available in Philly.
  7. OK, did a dry-run with the stoker yesterday, man it worked great. Held 225 & 250 fairly steady for over 24 hours!!! I even ramped it up for an hour or two at 275, then 300 to check how it responded to changes in target temps. It performed beautifully, the 4cfm fan doesn't overshoot the target temp by much. Of course I'm sure the top damper setting has something to do with that, I had it open only 1/4 turn. So this morning I put a brisket on @ 250. Wifey took it off about an hour ago (about 8 hours, internal temp 190) and said it was superb. Hopefully there's enough left when I get home!! Nothing like watching the temps and adjusting over the internet. I almost went through a full charge on my phone, refreshing it every 2-3 minutes LOL
  8. As someone who's owned almost every type of ceramic cooker, I can say that the Komodo Kamado is definitely the top of the line! From the time of my first contact with Dennis to receiving my cooker, the communication and customer service have been EXCELLENT! Happy to finally own the top-of-the-line and happy to know that Dennis will continue to support improvements and further accessories. There is absolutely no comparison in customer service to any other ceramic manufacturer I've ever dealt with. Included features and build-quality put my Mexi-K to shame. Thanks for a great product Dennis!! Jeff
  9. I do not root for the cowboys, I can't stand Jerry Jones
  10. I love snails. They do pretty much taste like garlic and butter, but are great on crusty bread!!! Then again, I'm from Texas where we eat rattlesnakes, frogs legs and the other white meat.......chicken!
  11. true dat! I probably wouldn't think it was an issue if I had the procomm.
  12. I just got a stoker, and it has the 4cfm fan. I haven't used it yet, but did plug it in to make sure everything is working. The fan seems to blow air pretty well. I've got the 10 cfm with my old guru. It seems like overkill on the Mexi-K, as it often overshoots unless I have the damper closed about half-way. I think smaller is better in the case of ceramic cookers.

    Hello!

Try oak chips/chunks from wine barrels, which should be all over the place for you. Mmmm good.....problem is your neighbors will flock to you like flies-to-crap because the smoke smells sooooo gooood.

    Charcoal

I love B&B and use it when I don't have or can't get extruded coconut. Part of the reason is the mfg is about 60-75 miles from my house so many local stores carry it. Usually runs about 9-10$ for a 20# bag. If you order it from B&B you'll probably pay a fair amount in freight. Right now they advertise a 20# bag on their website for $7.80. You might get lucky and someone in Wisconsin may carry it, but that would be a long shot. You could also call B&B and they could probably tell you the closest distributor. As far as the charcoal itself, the bags have very little dust and small pieces. It burns well, with not too much popping. Nice aroma as well.
  15. damn, briquettes, NEVER!!! Briquettes have never seen the inside of my Mexi-K and will never see the inside of my KK. Too much ash for me.
  16. Finally delivered yesterday to work. Now I have to get it home. Hopefully my friend with a lift-gate can do it the next day or two.
  17. Paul, haven't gotten it yet, some little glitch with the delivery address. They're supposed to deliver it tomorrow. They're taking their sweet time...
  18. Damn I was off by one post. I thought that would be the first post.
  19. Yeah, I debated ordering a Gen II. But I just couldn't wait. Instant gratification and all (if you call a week wait instant ) And the blue err black was a good deal.
  20. Just to rub it in, my KK is at the terminal today, due to deliver tomorrow.... Sorry couldn't resist. Here, I'll save you guys the trouble.....
  21. I like the bone-in loin chops as well. I rub a little olive oil on them, Salt, Pepper, Garlic Powder and Texjoy Steak Seasoning. Sometimes I'll finish them off with a little Stubb's Moppin' Sauce on both sides and a quick turn.
  22. fresh bread, que, onions sauteeing in oil/butter.............mmmmmm my favorite aromatherapies
  23. heineken for the green bottles, and I'm guessing red stripe or sapporo for the stubby brown bottles. It could be some Oz brand though.
