  1. Dam aussie that looks mad!! Gotta try some of these myself.

You think the basket splitter is the way to go with these kind of cooks? Not just spinning them over the nice burning coals? ive not given the splitter a go in my 32.

Looking at the wood I don't think so churchi think it's been sucked dry but can use it as lump. The chips we're sitting next to my pot so I thought why not either way it works awesome

Awesome thanks mate. Going to go get one of these pots this weekend. Do you find you need to bury the pot in the coal so you can put the drip pan and sit it flat? I am guessing the pot sticks out of the coals a bit.

And please find a way for us to delete pictures. Like Charles noted, sometimes I grab the wrong one to post (fuzzy, bad lighting, etc.) and it will still show up at the end of the post, even if I don't insert it into the text.

@tony b I think i know what you mean here (maybe). When you edit your post, do you see a garbage can icon in the bottom right of the corner of the image? If you do can you click that and see if that removes the image for you? It may look see through and hard to find.

  4. With the attachments, if we allow users to delete/manage their attachments we will end up loosing images (by accident or deliberate) in topics throughout the forum. I think its best to leave them there and just upload a new image if required. It would be good to have an edit/delete time for those images, so you can replace them if required, but not delete any others that are linked to topics. Unfortunately that option is not coded into the software. Ill suggest a feature request.

Do you all think the extended editing time may help to ease the issues pointed out here, or is there still a tech issue that needs to be solved?

    cheers

churchi, naturally the test worked perfectly even though I deleted a pix. TapaTalk post is identical to forum post. The next time it happens I'll try to contact you.

While we are at it ;) I'm finding that 10 mins to allow for editing is a little too short a time, can that be extended a little?

Thanks for testing @MacKenzie, when you can produce the issue please let me know and ill do my best to get it fixed for you.

Also, I have extended the 10 minutes to 60 minutes for members and 6 hours for owners. Do you think that is enough time or its too long to allow a user to edit?

@tony b, would you mind if we test out the 60 and 6 houors and see how that goes? The reason here is that if you are replying to a post, if you keep changing the text or editing it, then the replies  users have posted in the meantime may not be in context for the readers who look at the thread at a later stage. Thats the general reason i see for this option. Happy to make further changes to the time if required.

    Cheers

Well my thinking is if you correct the issue with bill not having mod tools there will be no need to allow users not to delete

i didnt realize that you were giving physical delete to mods i ran into issues years ago when i allowed that option to my staff and same issues arose so i decided to only have admin have those powers and i have never had a problem since but each forum is different .

i have also had issues with modifications causing secondary permissions issues like this where it gives users mod powers cause the way the coders coded the mod the scripts were off . the pia on that is you have to turn off each modification one by one till you find the problem one

It seems i cant allow users to delete or hide their replies without allowing them to hide/delete their topics as well. I was not aware the users had that option, it much have been setup like that before i came on board. Im glad someone had pointed out the issue, so i have been able to quickly fix it up. so thanks to @billg71 and @Stile88 for fine tuning this.

@Stile88 spot on, the (s)mods had access (before my time here) to delete posts from any user. I have now removed this so they can now only hide them, so the content can still be left behind and only admins can delete posts. This should keep things consistent (not that there ever was a problem in the past).

Thanks for your help on this. I will move this thread to the forum improvements section.

I think you should just do away with it. I've been tramping around internet forums for 16 years and I've never seen one where a user could delete or hide a reply(much less a whole thread) without asking a mod. Usually the best you can do if you put your foot in your mouth is edit the post and delete everything.

If you can tweak it to hide only your reply that would be OK but being able to effectively delete the whole topic means you're giving the initiator the power to hide all the responses from others who participated. I don't think that's really a good thing. Essentially, you're promoting anyone who starts a thread to moderator status for that thread. And I doubt members who put time and effort into responding to that thread would appreciate their labors disappearing just because the OP decided he didn't like what he'd started.

That's, for me, what forums are all about. Everyone gets their chance to speak their mind and, if they're not obnoxious about it, their thoughts will be there forever. Others can search and see what was said years after the thread has died a natural death. Giving any random user the power to obliterate the work of others is, to me, contrary to the spirit of a forum.

Damn, I got wound up, didn't I? Apologies, I don't usually haul out the soapbox this early in the evening. I guess it's just being a Yank and the "Freedom of Speech" thing. ;)

    Anyway, you asked... ;)

Thanks for taking the time to follow up on this.

    Best,

    Bill

Thanks for the reply @billg71, i completely agree with you. I have disabled the hide and delete your own content feature here. Great points you raised and i dont want to see content going missing either. If there is an issue with a post a mod or admin can help to adjust it.

Appreciate your time in helping to get this issue found and a fix put in place.

  8. Hi @billg71, do you still have that option to delete the thread? You have been moved into the owners group by Dennis, so wondering if that option is still there for you. If its not then i know where the issue lies.

So @Stile88, Would it be best to allow users not to delete their post, rather just hide it? I think this will solve the issue that @billg71 came across where the post was accidentally deleted.

I looked into the Meater and my concern is the distance to maintain the signal between the Meater and the Smartphone.  How far can one go using the Meater ?

I have ordered the meater block so i believe it will bluetooth to the block, then wifi back to the cloud then your app. i hope thats the way they have sold me on it!

This means i dont have to be in bluetooth distance which is not how i want a wifi meat probe to work. it has to be wifi so it can connect to my internet at home.

Until my Meater is in my hands I'm out of the kickstarter game. I'm still holding the faith. At this point I don't even care if it's a piece of crap but I want something for my $$$.

Completely agree there @ckreef. Im on this one too. SO much promise (i still believe in it as there is good updates over the past few months) just so late too :) Hope we get it by X-Mas.

Should be awesome when it hits though.
