That's weird, so I was asking to see photos of your unpacking of Mac if you have a link!? Thursday so tempting The company I work for does ACA enrollments and we are going a new two week training with the possible changes that maybe coming down the road. I'm not supposed to be on this site while I at work but can't help myself plus I can do two things at one time-lol but once everything slows down would love to take you up on the offer. I haven't been to Syracuse since I was a small boy that would seriously be good fun. Garvin

Being that I am new the Kamado game and hearing such good things about Kamado Joe and I don't yet own a KK I'm offended! Don't copycat if you can't make it better and if you didn't like the way the tiles look why go through all the trouble of making a prototype, I call BS on that!! Going thru the photos of old KK from 8 years ago those are better than today KJ's and with the steady improvements that Dennis has made goes to show he hasn't rested on old acclaim! When I decided to upgrade to a larger Kamado KJ was one I was seriously considering to get and everyone who has one don't get offended but I would not own one now don't like people or companys that smile in your face and go behind your back to discredit you like they didn't know they were actually doing that. Just my 2 cents on this subject. Garvin -
Didn't see this before I sent the PM!

Posted this question on the Kamado Guru forum and thought I would list it here also, have any of you good bakers tried or made a 30 day cake? Just like the name says it takes about 30 days to make and it is so good. Like a sourdough you will need a starter to begin with then start the process of making the cake. There are a lot of starter recipes for it on the web but if you know someone who already got one growing get some, just like sourdough the older the starter the better the recipe! My mom uses a starter from way back.. Garvin

Me too! Getting old and forgetful!!!!!!

Ok, seeing yours with the two grates and your roti basket shows I'm making the right choice for my first KK-smile, also seeing that some like their baking steel over the stone guess what I own a 1/4 baking steel size 14 inch so maybe I'll hold off on getting the stone. I like how everything is packed and the deflector was included unlike so many other Kamado brands that make you buy it extra and the included drip pan- getting the double bottom drip thought.

Took these photos and upload to my computer before I drop my phone in the wash, it's a 2.24lb top sirloin steak about a inch thick cooked on the Akorn Jr. I used my small smoker pot for this cook with BBQ delights pellets, cook the steak at 250 for 30 to an internal temp of 130 rested for 5 minutes as the Jr come up to searing temp of 550. I don't have finish photos due my phone being washed

What section of the site to post?
-
Future is the 19tt, but for now I have a Weber 22 gold, Weber Jumbo Joe/with a Cajun Bandit Stacker, Weber Smokey Joe/with a mini WSM build, Cook Air, and a Pit Barrel Cooker plus the cooker that got me to this site Akorn Jr which is all I have been using since I purchase about four months ago! The PBC to date has given me my best ribs and brisket! Once I get the 19tt will give to my next door neighbor the Weber 22, a friend from work the mini WSM and keep the others. Garvin P.S forgot my 14 WSM that I got on clearance last summer but haven't used probably give to my Dad.

I am getting old because as I was watching football I was also doing the wash and had my phone with me because I just was speaking with a friend about the game, well to make matters short I drop my phone in the wash and didn't realize it until I went to switch to the dryer. Thank goodness I have insurance on the phone but I will not see a new one until next Friday at earliest, starting to think a stand alone KK might be better-lol Old man Garvin

You guys rock and I really appreciate your help and knowledge with these fine cookers of meat, as well as others who have commented! Bosco I looked at the 22 and if there still available when I'm ready to buy will have to consider the black one that's the only other color besides the green one I would get. Again thanks' to you three for the knowledge!! Garvin

I was reading that most don't use their deflector, they either use the drip pan or foil or both. Could save me some money for more coco char! Thanks' Garvin
-
Beef- Red Oak, Pecan Pork- Peach, Apple, Sugar Maple Poultry- none just the fuel itself
-
Would you consider using the deflector as a baking stone! Good idea or not?
-
Thank you and that's seems about right along with everyone who has commented. The roti basket is what I want more than the rod.
-
Saw that they had some discounted 22 for 3500 but the black was the only color I would have wanted, I can wait to see if the bug really takes me over-lol
-
CKreef, HalfSmoke and you are the main reasons I want one, was drooling over the 23 but being single and not always cooking for more than two thought the 19 would be better starting point. Garvin

I love turkey can eat it all the time and I like the presentation of a whole bird cooked but doing a spatchcock bird doesn't leave for a good presentation at the table. Ran across this video about half cock turkey the technique is what I watched it for but feel free to watch the whole cook! Garvin

As for your question about baking the answer is yes, the stone will be one of the purchases made! Garvin

The motor for the roti was my next question. Thanks' Garvin

Ok, I want a KK for my birthday which is not until May. Gives me time to save up for it and I want a 19" Hi-Cap Table Top because it's just me for the most part and on occasion a few friends or family. The stand I know I want but what comes STANDARD with it and do I need the following trying to keep costs down. 1. Side tables 2. Baking stone 3. Grate Grabbers 4. Charcoal basket shield 5. Roti basket 6. Coco char fuel I really need some help with this because this will be the most money I spent on something not a car! Also this is the one I want: THE GREEN GOBLIN WILL BE IT'S NAME!!!!
