  1. Welcome aboard, Where in the desert is the other one? Your bringing back a few memories, I went to the University of Redlands, and my room mate was from Palm Desert. I'm from up in the San Joaquin Valley myself, though I'm in KY now.
  2. Happy Birthday, and don't fret 50. I just hit it myself this year. It's not as bad as thay say. It's better than the alternative! Roy PS. Of course a daughter can make you feel real good, when she laughs at you because you now qualify for "the old folks special checking account" at her bank.
  3. I wasn't going to post any pics of tonights cook since it was just a simple flank steak with some DP Cow Lick on it. But once I started slicing it after its rest I thought it was a good example of the advantage of ceramics. How often do you see well done steak this juicy? ( I know I like my steak rare myself but the wife and daughter want no pink in sight, so when we do flank we compromise, cook it their way.)
  4. Well I promised some pictures and here they finally are. My computer died so that has slowed me down some. I now have a laptop from work so I can get a few pictures posted until I build a new one. My first cook. Chicken breast First butt Some ribs, but I guess they never made it to the table, such a shame I imagine they sure were good Had to have a little beef!
  5. It's here!!!! It arrived safe and sound, and it is gorgeous. Due to its late arrival and places to go the first cook was simple and quick. Some Roadside chicken breast. A butt is rubbed and in the fridge to go on first thing in the morning. Pics and more thoughts to follow.
  6. For the truly anal among us, here is a simple boiling point calculator to check thermometer accuracy. You just need your elevation and current barometric pressure. Boiling Point Calculator
  7. Thanks, I suspected but wasn't sure.
  8. FM, That is a great looking pizza crust. Have you posted that recipe somewhere. I looked but haven't found it. Roy
  9. I'm no literary critic, but I found the book an enjoyable read. Received it Friday and had it finished by Sunday. It was written in a nice down home style made you feel comfortable. Learned some BBQ history and plenty of mouth watering recipes I can't wait to try. Nice job Chris Roy
  10. Just got the word, estimated delivery date is Thursday
  11. That's what I thought but it didn't happen. But I ended up with a little money, not enough to want to do it again, but hey, I did get my KK sooner so I guess it is ok. The funny thing is at first I wasn't even wanting anything, you know accidents happen. But when I got that letter from the insurance telling me they weren't liable I wanted all I could get out of them. What ever happened to just doing the right thing. Oh wait some people still do. Thats why I bought from Dennis.
  12. Don't get me started on insurance companies. The kid that ran the stop sign and hit me did not have his mothers permission to drive the car. Therefore they were not liable. So the attorney got about as much money out of it as I did.
  13. Re: 2,716 unique IP hits for the 12th alone.. Unfortunately I'm sure this is true. You should see the conversation over on the egg forum. The Whiz tried to straighten them out though.
  14. Nice job FM. I can't wait for mine to get here!!
  15. I went lurking somewhere I shouldn't have been , and someone was ranting about the FAKE on the Today show. You can't get the original quality when you buy a FAKE. From what I have found out I am glad I am not getting the original quality. I can't believe they called Chris a schmuck. Roy Dennis, if this is out of line please delete. Just sorta torqued me.
  16. Nice piece, but Dennis, instead of selling these units for a slight discount, maybe you should have Chris sign them and then sell them for a premium as a "Chris Lilly Signature KK"
  17. You do realize that isn't Navy Blue, don't you? Just kidding the one I have coming is no where near Army Green. Actually that is the one I had my eye on until I saw my Bronze Beauty.
  18. Welcome to the club! Glad you came out of the shadows to play. No need to wait until you buy a KK to chime in. They've put up with me around here for awhile before I bought one, should be here in the next few days. I too love my steaks, if you haven't seen it check out the TRex Method. It really does change the texture of the steak somehow. Well worth it in my opinion, and the wife no longer will eat a steak out, they just don't compare. Roy
  19. I just saw our own Chris Lilly's new book "Big Bob Gibson's BBQ Book: Recipes and Secrets from a Legendary Barbecue Joint" is availible for preorder at Amazon at a nice discount. Better hurry it comes out tuesday 5/12. Heres the Link Roy
  20. Dennis, Sorry to hear this, I had my car broke into while it was in our driveway, that was bad enough, can't imagine how it must feel to have them in your home. You obviously need one of these, always alert and ready to protect
  21. I can handle it I'm a big boy, besides I'm sure it's almost here. Its already been, What! Only 11 days
  22. Re: no comparison Don't hold back Doc, tell us what you really think. Seriously, that was a nice write up. Ron was telling me a little more about his smoker, he mentioned a water pan and I asked what that was for. He said "you don't use a water pan?" "Nope, don't need one, a KK doesn't dry out your food" I just got a "yeah, right" look. Doing a little research online today, I found that in general electric smokers are ok but, they don't create a good bark, much smoke penetration, or nice skin on poultry. I just can't wait for a cooking comparision. Roy
  23. I need my Bronze Beauty now! Where's that boat? A friend informed my yesterday that he has bought an electric refrigerator style smoker and you can't make better Que than he does now. He admits that the KK looks better but that is it. I asked if it could sear at high temps or bake at moderate temps. He said that was what his gasser was for. I feel a little cookoff coming.
