  1. I am honestly blown away right now. I just did a reverse sear fillet mignon that was without a doubt the best steak I’ve ever cooked in my life. I grilled some asparagus and whipped up some chimichuri with some roasted red potatoes. I am utterly blown away at how perfect the steak turned out. It wasnt the cook that’s for sure. It was the magic of the KK

  2. @Basher they have that feature but I have t played with it yet. The hot tub and pool aren’t in the same operating system but fortunately their color shades seem to be an exact match. I’ll have to play with the various settings and slight shows to see but I git this thing called the IntelliCenter that manages the pool solar heating, the gas heater (winter/night backup), the pool lights and the outdoor lighting in the backyard.

the spa is a stand-alone unit that operates independently

  3. @basher seemed to take about an hour. I put the double drip pan on the top grate and then the pizza stone on the top grate above that. I believe it was more or less an hour to get it up to 500 but I was in my hot tub drinking San Diego IPA beer so my timing could’ve  been plus or minus 15 minutes

  4. Made pizza for the first time. Tried two dough recipes one with instant yeast that I slightly messed up the mixing so resulted in a bit dry dough and the second with a sourdough starter I’ve been keeping

both we’re edible girls loved their cheese pizza but I wasn’t happy with result. 2nd with pepperoni and sourdough crust was better.

takeaway lesson is I need to improve my dough skills but super fun night with the girls

  5. Leaks are fixed. Hot tub was delivered today. Should be soaking in the tub tomorrow night with the family. Extremely grateful for that. I grew up in the hot tub business and this brand Caldera Spas was started by my Dad and godfather. We got out of the business long ago and it’s now manufacturers by Watkins Manufacturing which also owns Hot Springs Spas

the model I got is called the Cantabria it’s essentially the KK equivalent of hot tubs

  6. Hit a little snag this week. As part of the relocation of the pool equipment I hired a guy to test for leaks to make sure no major pool pipes were busted during all this demolition. He was supposed to come out prior to concrete being poured but that didn’t happen due to corona virus craziness/miscommunication between parties. So I got the leak guy out and sure enough we had a leak under the footing of the bbq island. Fixed it checked it again and there was another leak under the other footing on the island. So we got our smallest guy and had him tunnel underneath the concrete until he found the other leak and he fixed it yesterday. They said the guy was the same guy who tunneled El Chapo out of prison so while it may or may not be true we are back on track

wrve been Vacillating in the color paint the cover. Our landscape designer has been suggesting greys we think we want brown. That’ll get resolved this week, we’ll slap some paint on it and should be done in 2 weeks or so. After that’s done I promise to shut down this thread and post in the other forums but for now the journey continues. Pics of the tunnel under the island are attached

  7. @tekobo thank you. I’m currently trying to decide what to plant  but I think I’ve landed on the following

    herbs - basil, rosemary, thyme

vegetables - cucumber, zucchini, kale, red & yellow peppers

    strawberries

our landscaping plan already calls for pineapple guava trees, passion fruit trees, lime, orange, lemon and kumquat trees

@jonj thanks I definitely will if everyone is interested. It won’t be fully fine till all this corona virus stuff is done though. The hot tub is stuck on the loading dock at the factory and we special ordered these lime, orange and lemon trees that are called espaliered citrus which grows more like a vine in a wall Espaliered-Lemon-Tree.jpg

those citrus trees are at a business that’s shut down so we won’t have that or the passion fruit tree till after this is over.  But we’ll be 90% of the way there and we’ll be able to “shelter at home”

on a side note the turf got done last Saturday and my 4 & 2 year old finally got to go outside and play and run around. It was a joyous occasion

Those sausages look very yummy. Nice cook Troble

@Bruce Pearson my local butcher shop makes them and they marinate them in Jack Daniels. They used to be called Jack Daniels sausages until they got slapped around by the trade mark police. So they now call them bourbon sausages. We used to cook these at our tailgates every week when the chargers are here. I’ve pretty much switched to only eating these sausages about 19 years ago. It’s really hard to mess them up unless you forget about them and overcook them. Butcher makes it easy
