  1. Pater, Welcome to the forum. Please participate by letting us know what you are cooking with, or if you are buying (or have ordered) a Komodo. Pics are desired
  2. Obsession is right...once you've gone ceramic...you can't go back can you. Great story. Speaking of the wondeful SS you gave away, here's my version. My neighbor in Atlanta had a huge top of the line SS grill with the natural gas hookup and all, he was learning how to cook on it and rather proud. He saw the new tiled grill I had and made funny comments about it. Then one day I went and picked up a couple of chickens. I rubbed them down with some Charcrust amd spatchcoked them. So after cooking them I took one of them over to his house and gave it to them....it was dinner time and they were gonna try to throw something together and now they had an entree. He was very happy after seeing how juicy it was and smelling that wonderful charcoal cooked smell. Anyways, the next day he made a special effort to tell me that it was the BEST chicken he and his wife had ever eaten from anywhere, restuarant or home...and he had to know what spices I put on it. I told him it wasn't the spices it was the cooker, but he continued to talk about the spices. So I gave him a package of Charcrust and he used it on chicken on his high-dollar SS grill...and he had the same ole chicken he always had...except with a little different spices (prolly dried out in comparison). He just couldn't understand. He got to where he NEVER used that grill anymore...ever. What a waste, maybe he could send it off to your dad...cause once you taste food from a ceramic grill...you do get obsessed, yes you do By the way, welcome...and yes we expect a lot of pics, I'll be posting some tonight and tomorrow cause I'm cooking a couple of pork butts I prepped last night. Be sure and get Chris out here at least lurking until he gets his KK. The more people, the more pics...and the pics are what matters...believe me the pics are golden. Whoever said a picture is worth a thousand words must have been part of a bbq forum

  4. I think there's some kind of bizarre ritual you have to perform which involves Tony Oliver somehow...? I think he has them all hostage or something. Well, I think we need to learn to control the temp without a thermometer before we go out and buy all that those hi-tech gadgets
  5. We have a persimmon tree on our land here too, never heard of persimmon bread though.

  9. Re: POPCORN!!!! MICROWAVE!!!! Maybe you should send DJ your old one. We have one of those awesome popcorn machines at work that's just like being at the movies. They keep large supplies of the bags of popcorn and butter and salt that you just open and squeeze into the hopper. Man, that's some good stuff, I have it about every day.

Re: Gotta have beef! Well, I was on my lunch hour, I didn't have time to do much. I looked for brisket and didn't see any, and we have steaks at home already. But we'll be back I also looked for another chuck roll and didn't see that, but I was in a definate hurry.
  14. Well, we finally joined Sam's here at our new homestead. So the wife came by and got me for lunch and we made a big ole family outting. I grabbed a cart and headed for the meat department. I loaded up a 2-pack of pork butts, a 3-pack of babybacks, a huge pack of really thick pork chops, a 2-pack of pork loin, and 15 lbs of jerky meat (eye round). Then somebody slapped me on the back a the head so I put in a large pack of boneless-skinless chicken breasts. I'm sure we'll find something to do with them...it's hard though, they are practically greaseless

  19. Yea-haw, we gonna finally get to feast our eyes on old yeller Cook us up sompin good now...none a those veggies or tofu ar anything like that...that's a sacrelig ya know
  20. Yep, I'd do what DJ suggested. Get the high temp silicone caulk and run a bead on the bottom lip of the top opening. Spay a little oil on it (cooking oil, not motor oil ) and lay down some saran wrap. Then close the damper down to where it forms to the shape. Then crank her back up and go for 2000 degrees...get some pics you piro
  21. Oh yeah, if nothing else will, a pork butt will make a "True Believer" of you...and if the lil lady piches your butt ever now and again, then that don't hurt nothin either. I pity the dogs though, they libel to get chunky now
  22. Over posting is not a sin The sin is posting a non-introductory post in the Introduction area or posting something nice about God or our country or our military...no wait...never mind...where am I again
