tony b Posted June 19 Report Posted June 19 OK, these folks have stepped up their game. They've now secured a license to import pimento wood from Jamaica! Hallelujah! However, hang on for the sticker shock! It ain't as cheap as it used to be! But at least we can get it again! I had been hoarding my last few chunks of it for special cooks. They're also including the leaves in the order. These have been more available than the wood, but a nice add-on. Toss in some allspice berries in the mix and you're rockin' it, mon! Quote
jonj Posted June 19 Report Posted June 19 I just ordered some. Yes, expensive but the only game in town. 1 Quote
C6Bill Posted June 19 Report Posted June 19 (edited) I just got 20 lb of coffee wood from Dennis If you call the shipping price is much easier to justify lol Edited June 19 by C6Bill 1 Quote
jonj Posted yesterday at 02:35 PM Report Posted yesterday at 02:35 PM Just received my pimento wood from Fruita. The chunks are decent sized and will require reduction before use. Happy to have it but 5 pounds of wood chunks really isn't very much wood. . . 🙁 On the other hand, it's the only source and they do include 5 pounds of pimento leaves. 2 Quote
tony b Posted yesterday at 04:20 PM Report Posted yesterday at 04:20 PM You will find that pimento wood is very hard. I struggle to cut the chunks down with a hand saw. I'm reluctant to fire up the table saw to do it. 1 Quote
jonj Posted 22 hours ago Report Posted 22 hours ago Thanks for the tip @tony b. I haven't had pieces this big before. I'll give the band saw a try. On the plus side, I will only lose 3/64" to the kerf instead of 1/8". I'll count that as money in my pocket, given the cost of the wood. 🤣 Quote
tony b Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago We're talking about smoking wood, not charcoal. To make "authentic" Jamaican jerk, you need pimento wood for smoking. Just sayin'! @jonj - was wondering about how much you'd lose to "sawdust" with the table saw. Wish mine had a vacuum attachment. Quote
