  1. Hi All, Sorry I didn't share this sooner. Been really hectic around here. My KK arrived last Friday. The arrival window was 10am-2pm and the moving company finally showed up at 4:45pm and we had dinner reservations at 6:45 with our neighbors. Neighbors drove by and noticed the commotion and came over to admire my new love and it turned into an unpacking party. I had the moving guy (very friendly guy) move the pallet into my backyard. We have a pool with concrete deck so no problems with grass. To get the pallet into the backyard I had to remove two fence panels. Because of the dinner reservations I unfortunately didn't take many pictures. My wife might have a few additional ones I will share later. There is one step up to a raised area of the patio with the KK will live so that's all we had to navigate as far as moving. I have a 1" thick plywood sheet in my garage so we used that with 2x4 blocking underneath to create a bridge from the pallet to the raised patio. We used the blue ropes attached to the front feet to raise the front enough to slide the plywood under them and then the KK moved no problem with just me an my neighbor. It was basically a flat surface at that point. We were 30 min late to dinner but the restaurant had held our table so no problem. The next day I made burgers while being careful to keep the temp below 400. They were awesome but I could have done better if I wasn't so concerned about the temp. The original plan was to cook a brisket first but because of the rush unpacking I wasn't ready yet. So brisket went on the next night. It was a small brisket (only 11lbs). I used the Franklin method and cooked at 230 through the stall and then wrapped. AWESOME. My neighbor has an XL BGE. I've told him he will own a KK within the next 12 months. Guaranteed. My old BGE in the pics below served me well for 10yrs. So as a reward to her I have donated her to a good friend who is in need of an upgrade from his old gasser. he will treat her better than I can considering another has now stolen my heart. I just started the burn in today. She's sitting at 500 for almost an hour now. Nothing exciting happening yet. The BGW was sitting in a table that I made. I've cut it down to create a temporary side table for the KK. I didn't order the side tables because my intention is to build a brick island with granite top to sit beside the KK. I have three straps of spare brick that's been in my garage since I moved in and I've been waiting for the right project to use them. -Eric

  3. No bobcat but they do have the pallet jack. They also have something called dura deck that is used to protect delicate ground from heavy equipment, so I'm getting 3 pieces of that instead of plywood. 4x8 sheets rent for $10, so cheaper than plywood and more durable. Should have her fired up tomorrow!

  4. Peru played Brazil today in Copa America. I’ve been wanting to try to cook my Lomo Saltado in the cast iron wok on the KK for some time now, so I gave it a try. Didn’t have any tomatoes but turned out good. Bought some thin sliced grass fed sirloin and didn’t realize it was almost sandwich thin cut, outside of that it was super tasty, better than the soccer game that’s for sure

  5. I used the KK's casters. I debated a pallet jack rental but with the angle I didn't think it would work in reality so I just emptied my KK of everything (except the firebox) and rolled it. For something that was ballpark 1400 pounds empty (or whatever it is) it moved pretty well but I am certainly glad I don't have to move it more than once.. lol

  6. My local rental company had a bobcat with forks. Have you asked about something like that ? Instead of renting for the day they came to my house and moved it to where I wanted it for $140. In and out safe and sound in 20 minutes.

  7. Hi All, Now that my final payment has been made an my BB32 is on it's way, I thought it is a good time to introduce myself. I'm in Allen Texas just north of Dallas. My background and path to the BB32 is similar to a lot of stories I've read on the forum. I've been using a Large BGE for about 10 years. At the time I switched from a gasser to the BGE I was so impressed that I gave my very nice Weber gasser to my brother (which he still uses). I'm supper excited to join the next level experience of the KK. Like a lot of you I started out thinking about the 23. Talked to Dennis and even got on the build list for a 23....next day upgraded to the 32. My 32 is on the boat, hopefully arriving late April.

  8. Thanks. I'm going by an equipment rental company today for the pallet jack, will ask about the bobcat rental too, maybe they would be willing to move it for me. Hoping to cook our Fathers Day meal on it this weekend. Everything but the firebox is out of the grill, and that was quite the workout hauling all those grates around the house to the backyard.

  9. Troble, great cook and just look at the gravy possibilities sitting in the bottom of that pan.

  10. Yeah, it's a bit overkill for one steak and sides especially since i have to lug everything downstairs ( the KK, kettle, and gas grill are all conveniently located on the deck upstairs). That being said, it was a great steak - the taste was noticably better than over charcoal and the double heat management (coal placement and grate height) is very easy. I might have to get a Santa Maria attachment for the kettle! My plan for this is for larger cooks and pool parties. I'm hoping to have a family reunion with 30 or more people this summer and was thinking I'd smoke some butts for pulled pork overnight on the KK and grill chicken and veggies on this new beast. My sister likes the goat she's got at Indian restaurants and she's already wanting to get a whole one for me fix on this.

  11. Seasoned the grates and griddle and did the 1st cook. Dry aged ribeye, mushrooms, onions, and a grilled salad with chard, kale, and lettuce, plus some chicken for pasta later in the week. One of the best steaks I've ever had!

  12. Actually you do need the splitter because airflow will always take the path of least resistance.. The air will simply go thru the open area with no charcoal.. this reduces the responsiveness of the controls also.. Ideally you want all the air leaving the damper top to be forced thru the charcoal. This way minor changes actually affect the volume of charcoal you are burning and the temp.

  13. M3, globular cluster with signs of old age (golden stars), and yet a youthful vitality (blue stars). And I…ummm…did a thing. I added another time machine. The TEC140 is the KK of telescopes. Made by a guy named Yuri, who is the Dennis of optics. Key difference: it burns holes in your wallet instead of charcoal. Found this one being sold by an aging gent near my previous home near DC. Been sitting in a case for years. He never used it. Here it is all tricked out with all of the goodies that make it an astrophotography machine.

  14. Some reprocessing last weekend. I give you my fancy new North American and Pelican Nebulae. And let us zoom in to the feature known as the Cygnus Wall. The universe is pretty freakin' awesome, y'all. And the earth's not flat. Just sayin'.
