  1. Re: I was robbed again.. ;-( That sucks. I too was a victim of some thieves. There is nothing that I hate more than a thief. While we were home they used a slim jim to unlock my wifes car which was in the driveway. They used her garage door opener, opened my garage and took my road King which was on a frame jack along the back wall of the garage. My car was parked in front of it leaving only a few feet to work. All the lights were on in the garage but they didn't care and they proceeded to literally clean out my garage. Motorcycle, mountain bikes, pool cleaners etc etc. Now tighter security measures are in place which include a 40 cal device that sends fast moving projectiles My dog was snoring and didn't even bark......
  2. Re: SNAKE RIVER FARMS Whole Bone-In Pork Shoulder I bought some mangalitsa porkchops the other day. I experienced the exact same thing. Too much fat for grilling. Too much flame and too much soot. I think these fatty cuts are best served searing in a pan and finishing in the oven or low and slows.
  3. Re: Lid open or closed? Tony with thick cuts I find that lowering the initial temp helps the heat penetrate to cook the interior and the outside doesn't look like a meteor. You still get a great crust just by virtue or time/side. Still, won't have the "full red(pink)" interior of a reverse sear. Just another option.
  4. Re: Lid open or closed? here you go. viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3482&p=32454&hilit=tutorial#p32454
  5. Re: Lid open or closed? Lid closed. Leaving it open subjects the gaskets to too much heat and you waste a lot of heat for nothing. I use the standard grill, get the coals going nice and hot. Nothing crazy.. 600 or so, sear, then drop it down to 450 or so to penetrate. I did a tutorial on here a while back I'll see if I can dig it up.
  6. Re: What should I sell this for? I'd say a few hundred bucks and that's being very generous (for you). "Free to good home" would be better. That way when it falls apart they won't make a visit to your house in the middle of the night to exact revenge
  7. Re: Steak Cook VIDEO "I had a recording glitch cause I'm half gassed" bahaha Good video. I'm gonna try the 4 tablespoons of salt for an hour and rinse method. Seems interesting. I usually just salt then wait 20 minutes and grill. Not sure how rinsing affects the maillard reaction though since you rinse off the proteins that come to the surface which create the browning (so they say). Either way it was fun to watch. I had to cringe when you asked your fiancee to come closer and get a good shot of the fire when you opened it up. I was hoping there was no backdraft. I did that twice with a high temp cook....first and last For my steaks I never use the sear grill, just the upper grill. I find with the thickness of my steaks and my method, the outside gets burnt before the inside is cooked due to the high temps. Conversely my mother loves the sear grill. I just find I have more control using the upper. Thanks for taking the time.
  8. Re: Two KKs going to Luanda, Angola.. I want to see the shipping bill.
  9. Re: Newbie question: Difference between a KK and BGE Lets put this in terms most can understand....... BGE Komodo Kamado both will get you from point A to B but which one would you rather be in????
  10. Re: Any A/V experts on here? I have the subwoofer of the gods. A Seaton Sound Submersive
  11. Re: Any A/V experts on here? MY current set has 2 HDMI inputs. My sources consist of a blu ray player and an HD satellite receiver. BOth of which are 1080P capable but then so is my old set........
  12. Hi All, While browsing at my local Costco today they had a 60" Panasonic TC-60PS34 on sale for $1000 (its $500 off). I currently have a JVC HD61FH97 LCOS rear projection that I purchased in late 2006. Its a good set and still performs well with regular bulb changes. For $1K I couldn't help but wonder if the picture quality of the Panny will be significantly better than my current set. I think the Panny is an entry level plasma but can't help but think for $1K I can't really go wrong. It's 1080p,3 HDMI inputs, wifi and some other stuff I probably don't need. Any ideas or opinions on this? Thanks, Joe
  13. Re: Totalled the wife's new car......but I redeemed myself You have to love engineering. Furthermore, the power is achieved on 87 octane so I don't have to pay a fortune for gas
  14. Re: Totalled the wife's new car......but I redeemed myself I should clarify. It has 175hp more than the fiesta had which was about 100hp. It generates 275hp from of a 4 cylinder turbocharged motor. Extremely tractable and no noticeable turbo lag. If you didn't know you'd swear it was a very powerful V6.
  15. Whoopsie! Got in an accident with the wife's new Fiesta last week. My poor little buddy folded up like a cheap card table. I walked away unhurt which is most important. I think all 8 airbags in that thing deployed The crumple zones are quite effective and the cabin was entirely intact with no intrusion. Sadly its off to the big car lot in the sky-too much damage to repair. While we were waiting for the payout from insurance we picked up a 2012 Hyundai Sonata limited 2.0T. Its my first Korean car and have to say was amazed at the quality and engineering put in the vehicle. Fit and finish is stellar and the tactile feel of the instrumentation is great. We went there just to look around and weren't really expecting much. Wow was I surprised. We ended up buying it and took delivery yesterday. It only has 175more horsepower than the Fiesta Trouble is the 0-60 of 6 seconds and a top speed of 155mph might get me in trouble Here's a pic. Its no Mercedes but it is an outstanding value.
  16. Re: Trader Joe's hardwood Briquettes FWIW, I still only use lump for low and slows. I only use briquettes for grilling and make sure they've burned down for a while. Anyone ever notice how much they smoke when you first light them?
  17. Re: New KK On Its Way To Peterborough Ontario Canada! I know the wait can be frustrating but hang in there. Good things come to those who wait. Send Dennis a note he'll be more than happy to give you an update.
  18. I picked up some prime NY strips from Costco and threw them on the grill. Puppy realized the potential for someone to steal her scraps so she made sure no one went near it. http://home.cogeco.ca/~4re/guard.jpg[/img:3b88pcit]
  19. HI All, Lowes has Kingsford buy one get one free if you're into briquettes. I got 64lbs for $16. Not my first choice in fuel but for 25 cents a pound I'll overlook some stuff It actually isn't bad though. I use it primarily for grilling. Works well but lots of ash. Sale ends July 4th and I think is online only. Order online and pick up in store. Joe
  20. Re: New KK On Its Way To Peterborough Ontario Canada! Great to see someone else from Ontario (besides me) actually jumped on board. You will be so proud when it arrives. Lets see some pics and keep us updated.

  22. Re: KK on Best in Smoke I'll preface my comments by saying I've only watched the first episode I like it but I agree the judges can be jerks sometimes. Same goes for BBQ Pitmasters. I never did like Art Smith as a judge, seemed like an @ssh@le. I didn't like Warren Sapp either. While he had a better personality than Art he knows football and not the idiosyncrasies of BBQ-aside from it tasting good. Mixon as a judge was perfect though. He's been there, done that and has the t-shirt to prove it. Also don;t really care for the running to the truck to get your food. Thats dumb especially if your Dave who's not in the best shape of his life. Have a little contest to see who gets to pick first. Its a BBQ competition not a fitness competition and poor Dave will always pick last.
  23. Re: Getting the KK to 500 degrees Also be sure the ashes aren't restricting flow. Sometimes they pile up and block the flow of air.
