I finally made it across route 9 to Wally World (I'm a Target man - closer and cleaner). Not a chunk of lump in sight here in Joisey I'm afraid. You guessed correctly on the Cowboy - I get it from Lowes and it's better than briquettes. Even my Weber Kettle can suffocate it to death, the Kingsford briquettes burned down to nothing even with little/no O2.

I'd start by reading up on TNW's site - he's got great reviews and the best collection in one place on the net. As far as what to buy, I try to stay local when I can. For now that means Cowboy for me but I'm still looking (and I've got time since I've only got a tin can to grill on now). If I were to order a pallet I'd certainly consider Dennis' lump (high temp) and extruded (low and slow), but Wicked Good and Royal Oak are also good stuff.

Think of the BGE like a Toyota; cheap, reliable, ubiquitous and it gets you where you need to go. The KK is like a Maybach; an elite thing of beauty that looks great and gets you where you want to go in comfort and luxury. A BGE is a very nice ceramic cooker and has the benefit of a nationwide (worldwide?) chain of stores that can provide parts and service. A KK, on the other hand, has a single point of contact that you can order whatever you need and you've got a much more personal relationship with the company. A KK also has much better insulating properties which means that they're more efficient at keeping the temperature constant with less coal. Finally, Big Green Egg made their name by making an ugly cooker in whatever color you wanted (as long as it was green) that stands out at BBQs but performs very well. KK's are much easier on the eyes and perform even better Both cook fairly well with the KK's more even heat and more efficient thermals providing a slight edge, but KK is a much more friendly and personal company and looks much better on your patio.

If you only had a tiller you could build her a flower garden. Or a backhoe to build her a pond. My wife just wants me to get more life insurance and a motorcycle, I'm not quite sure what to make of that...

Re: How Long to Get KK?? If you want custom-built you're best off talking to Dennis directly. As mentioned, if you find one in stock that you like delivery is very fast. It depends on what you can spend. There is only one size so that's an easy one. The classic round cooker works great, but the OTB-style is the more common variety in that it provides a more even heating and also looks better (although that's a bit subjective, of course). Textured vs. tiled is more of a personal preference thing than anything that significantly impacts the cooking. You can see a table of the various options on the price list or you can see a text description here. Hope this helps! I'm sure you'll love your cooker no matter which one you choose.

It shouldn't cause rusting since it's not metal, I would have been better saying not to use non-stainless steel since it's particles left behind from standard steel or iron that cause rusting and pitting. If you like it and it works, feel free to make a post in this forum.

The GrillFloss seems to be the current favorite (at least if ordered directly). Just be sure you use something stainless (like stainless steel wool) to prevent rusting.

I've heard that the best way to move these things is to get a few guys and a pair of 2x4s. What's the fun in that (unless you're Sanny and like large sweaty men in your yard)? Here's my version of "2x4s" and some muscle: I just need some more manly ballast in the back besides the grass catcher - I'll put the tiller back there for the actual move.

How could I have forgotten!?!? When you eat very rare meat (or whatever goes into hot dogs) it kills any parasites that may be living in there and it also helps to dull the chest pains.

You have to understand the proper way to eat high-fat foods. You see the fats all build up in the arteries and block the blood flow so the best thing to do is to add lots of salt. Re: Porterhouse??? Ya reckon that was a british invention? I thought it was a kiwi one? I had it in Singapore first and was told by my fake Aussie boss (Kiwi in disguise) that it was a British thing. Of course I've also had it in Madrid but I don't think I've had it in the UK so who knows if he's right.
