  1. The grill arrived at about 2 pm. I got it uncrated and basically put together and in place. Then work called and off to a special project I had to go. So much for my 1/2 day off work. Anyway I snapped a couple sneak preview pictures. Will do a proper thread later this weekend. Lined with firebricks. The grate moves up and down with a lever/wheel arrangement. You can see the handle for the lever in the bottom left corner. Has a side brasero (firebox) and a warming/storage area (middle handle). Just the right size for me and Mrs skreef and the limited guests we might have. Full length cover.
  2. Sitting at home twiddling my thumbs waiting for the delivery truck. Unfortunately I do have to go back to work for a little bit later today to finish up my end of payroll.
  3. Well this one is painted steel made in Argentina. It does have a full length cover so hopefully I can keep the rust at bay. Kalamazoo makes a really nice SS version. Unfortunately it starts at $25k. A bit pricey for me
  4. Let us know what you think about the gunpowder. I've seen it at the local butcher just haven't pulled the trigger (pun intended) - LOL
  5. @MacKenzie is a smart woman. Not a super high end model (they get into KK pricing or more) but a smaller version just the same.(still not cheap) My KK's I use on a regular basis during the week. (2 or 3 nights per week) Very dependable and will do whatever I ask of them. The reality is kamados don't really have the fun factor. When I cook on the weekend I want the fun factor. My Konro Yakitori grill and Wood Fired Oven definitely have the fun factor for weekend cooks. This grill should also have the fun factor but in a bit different way.
  6. That's an impressive comparison.
  7. Now that is a smart woman Get the Beach Boys in your head and sing this chorus with me.... "We'll have fun, fun, fun till my wife takes the MAPP torch away......." I had to try my hand at lyric matching - LOL
  8. Nope no fun in a pellet grill. The new grill has fun written all over it.
  9. Considering the price of the truck I probably should have gotten a 42". But no not another kamado.
  10. LOL - hopefully the delivery truck won't break down this time. I've already lined it up to take off work early tomorrow so it better show up.
  11. I don't know about spam. It's been a really long time..............
  12. My last batch of purple crack I divided it up then vacuum sealed it and kept at room temperature. For this batch the question remains - after vacuum sealing it should I store at room temperature, in the refrigerator or freeze it?
  13. I'm going to try and get in on this next shipment. Hopefully it won't go so fast.
  14. I imagine you get screwed like that on a few specialty products. Bummer as it's a really hard lump.
  15. For those of us who didn't get in on the coffee wood lump Marabu is back in stock at Fogo. Going to start ordering 1 bag per week until I'm stocked up.
  16. It is not a variable speed fan. Consider the fan damper your bottom vent. Like @zich6 said you match that to the size smoker/kamado you have. My kamados are on the small size (19" KK table top and Primo Oval Jr). I set the fan damper to 1/2 Open. On the Oval Jr the top Smokeware Chimney Cap is set to 1/4 Open. Check this out. This is in my Primo Oval Jr using B&B Oak lump and CyberQ set to 250*. I fired the lump up at 3:10 pm yesterday. I let it come to temp for 1 hour (4:10 pm yesterday) then started counting the hours. At this point we're just shy of 24 hours. I'm very impressed with this B&B Oak lump. This was just a test of the lump with no food in the kamado. Going to let it keep going until the lump runs out.
  17. Very tasty looking cook. I'm curious - what do you call cold?
  18. While Mrs skreef was still giddy over the truck purchase I figured I better get while the getting was good. In all fairness Mrs skreef has been very tolorant over the last few years for what she calls "my grill addiction". When the situation presented itself to get a truck (something she's wanted since the day I met her) I figured I could make her a really happy woman. Win, win for both of us.
  19. Should have it in place 2 weekends from now. Fingers crossed.
  20. Mrs skreef is a pickup truck, country gal. When I came home almost 2 years ago with a brand new Nissan Rogue she wasn't really thrilled. For almost 2 years I listened to her whining about the car. Last weekend we took the Rogue for an oil change. Instead of an oil change we came home with a brand new Nissan Titan V8 4x4. It's a full size 4 door pickup truck with a short bed. Really big on the inside and a very comfortable ride. Mrs skreef is very pleased with this purchase. The world has a saying, "Happy wife, happy life." I have my own version of that saying, "Happy wife, time for another grill!!!" So with that thought in mind we took the new truck to Lowes and got a few more pavers. Let the new grill project begin. Will post a detailed thread as progress is made and the new grill arrives. Hopefully I'll order it this weekend.
  21. Wrapped in foil then in a towel then in a cooler they'll still be hot after three hours when you go to pull them. You could go longer if push came to shove.
  22. That was a fine looking fish cook. Great job pushing through it
  23. @tony b, @Aussie Ora, I hid that post so the world doesn't know your address. "So now the question is - how did BBQ sauce & rubs suddenly become "Hazmat??" Everything is clearly described on the shipping label and customs forms. " My guess is the sauce being a liquid. When you click through the keypad at the post office one of the things you agree to /certify is that the package doesn't contain any liquids. Somebody down the line was having a bad day and felt like being a jerk. I've put vinegar on the declaration form in the past and worried about it so I started putting condiments. I figure condiments is about as vague as I could get.
  24. I totally agree with that. Mine is 30" inside diameter. It sounds big but it's really sort of small. I make it work but if I had to do it over 42" inside diameter sounds much nicer.
