  3. I have the Anova One WiFi that I bought during pre-order. I don't use it a ton, but I've enjoyed pretty much everything that I have cooked using it. The 'pretty much' piece is - you have to experiment a bit with time and temperature. You can get very different textures with those variables - some not so good! Unless I have a short timeline, I may never cook a steak not using SV on it first. Chicken breasts are also great. I've also made a lot of yogurt and steel cut oatmeal with it. I haven't done a large cut yet, like a butt or brisket, but those are on my list to try.

    I can see that. If I had a charcoal bin, I think I'd sift first too. In my yard, it's easier to store the lump out in the shed and carry the bags back and forth. I also don't bother with a shop vac. I can have the KK cleaned out using my KJ ash rake faster than it would take me to walk to the shed and dig out the vac. It's a good reminder that every set up is different and the way that works for you is the best way.

    I'm not too picky about my lump KJ and RO are the two I use most - mostly due to A. Price and B. Availability I can get RO at Home Depot or Walmart that are just over a mile from my house. For KJ, I wait for a Costo road show and load up. I've tried a few bags of Fogo that I had shipped. Like @tony b, some of the pieces are gigantic - takes some work, but it's better than getting chips and dust, I suppose If I use the Fogo, I usually add a top layer of RO so I can light that, then let the RO do the hard work of lighting the dense Fogo. I usually do that for the KJ lump too. Got some Jealous Devil shipped and I like that. Nice sized pieces - probably 80% of the bag is slightly smaller than fist size pieces. The main problem was that the bags were filthy when they made it to me - Fogo had similar issues, but not as bad. I like the Char-Broil stuff in the box, too... but as others have said, only at a sale price. I find the boxes easy to stack, clean, but unwieldy to just dump the lump in. They weren't made to dump into a grill that has a hinged lid. The lid stops the box from tipping far enough. The only stuff I have tried and haven't liked was some brand I got at Academy Sports. They only show B & B on their page, but I don't think that was it. I might still have a bag in the shed, I'll have to look. It had way too heavy smoke flavor for me. I noticed some jumbo bags of Cowboy at my Costco recently, but every time I've been, we had to pick up other stuff so I haven't had room.
  9. Today isn't as hot or sunny as it was yesterday, but I went out and took some IR readings: KK handle = 108 degrees Grate in KK = 118 Grate hanging on KK = 110 Surface inside the dome = 128 Same spot outside the dome = 178
  10. I used my deflector as a pizza stone the other night and left it in the KK. This afternoon, two days after the pizza cook, I went to take it out and I had to look to see if there wasn't still a fire smoldering, it was so hot. It was 97-degrees here today. My black KK soaks up the sun - maybe I'll name it Crow (as in Sheryl)

  12. I used toilet shims under each wheel to prevent mine from accidentally rolling if someone leaned on the grill or something.   13. I have a single basket. If it's loaded with 'after a cook' lump, I dump the lump into a bucket, install the splitter, then re-load with the lump from the bucket. There will usually be plenty of lump left over in that bucket that I will use to top off after the next cook. Removing the splitter is simple. I feel I'd do the same if I had a dedicated basket for the splitter anyway - dump out the lump when you store a basket, then reload it when you need it again.
  14. I don't use my diffuser as a diffuser, There's really no need on the KK. I do. however, use it as a pizza stone. And I have the baking stone. Most of the pizzas I do are thinner crust and I like the diffuser for those. The baking stone, I think Dennis even said, is better for bread and thicker crust pizzas.

  17. I don't do a lot of low and slow cooks. When I do one, I use my Heater Meter occasionally. I don't NEED it, but it's fun to use. I didn't need it on my KJ, either. If I were doing an overnight cook, I'd use it for the peace of mind.
  18. I've never been much of a car person. I had a Geo Metro in college and it was perfect for me. It got great gas mileage. I went to college in a city and had to pay for parking. The lot right by the school had a 1/2 spot in one corner that was at a weird angle. They guy said, "If you can get it in that spot, you can park there for half price." I made it fit every time. I can't tell you how many times I needed to haul something in it and the person helping me load it said, "This will never fit in there!" and sure enough, it fit. Took it on a 1500+ mile round trip vacation. Put 125,000+ miles on it before I sold it and never did anything but routine maintenance. I probably saved well over $6 on spark plugs with only having to buy 3! Not my picture, found one on the internet. I doubt I have any pictures of my old one.
  19. Two pork tenderloins with some homemade rub spun for about 40 minutes. Used the basket splitter and put the corn on the searing grate over the hot side. Corn was on for about 30 minutes. Everything was fantastic. The pork was so moist, it made a squishing sound when I sliced it, Sorry sports pork fans, no plated pictures. ETA: Apple must have changed something. I used to be able to take pictures with my iPhone held a certain way and they'd post correctly. Now they are all sideways.
