It seems my boat spent most of the day parked outside the port of long beach. Maybe because it showed up early, it had to wait before it could dock? Hopefully, it will be in port by morning...
-
That's terrible. Glad to hear you got a refund though. It will work out. Everyone loves ribs!

5:00 pm tomorrow! Fingers crossed for a smooth trip through customs and expeditious transfer to the warehouse. From there on to Florida!

So I know everyone is aware that there will be a historic speech today by the first female nominee for president. However, more monumental to me is that the boat carrying my grill is now within sight of land. It just pinged again. It is across the pacific! It is the one with the brackets around it! It's close!

Thanks for the input! I researched on here a bit before I purchased. I think if nothing else, it will give me peace of mind on overnight cooks. There is a great tutorial on the cyberQ on here somewhere, but I will probably have plenty of questions for those of you who use it.
-
Thanks! I thought so, just making sure.

@bosco So, I bought one of these previously. It is still in the box as I do not yet have the grill to use it with. But I am curious - Clearly you do not need the fan for temperature control. However, I was thinking that the three probes for temperature monitoring would be nice. Since you are selling, what do you currently use to monitor temps?

Dennis, You did not specifically mention it with the 32" but I am assuming it also comes standard with teak and stainless BBQ Guru plug?

Thanks!

Would someone please post the link to that tutorial? My youngest loves making pizza. Once my KK gets here this would be a fun dinner project.

@ckreef That sounds like a great day, even before the meal. If you will forgive a brief reminiscence. I grew up in Warner Robins, GA, right down the street from Lane. We often took day trips to Andersonville. My grandfather was involved in the produce and agriculture business and was close personal friends with the Lane family. I have spent hours of my life in and around the lane packing shed while Grandaddy talked business with Duke, Bobby, Duke Jr., and Stevie. I bet I have eaten 50 gallons of their peach ice cream in my lifetime. To this day, when I go home, I always take my kids by there for ice cream, peaches, and pecans. Truly a hidden gem in Middle Georgia! The cook looks pretty awesome too, but I got a little misty eyed hearing someone else extolling the beauty of Lane...

@bosco You rock! That is awesome. I have been checking pacific ocean weather patterns and trying to determine where the boat is base upon it's estimated speed etc. Thank you so much for the update! @KevinD I think your tin foil hat has a dent in it. Or maybe one of the rabbit ears got bent.... I am keeping the faith. By the 30th it will be on terra firma!

Perfect! Thanks for the link and the info!

Nice! I love me some duck fat. Ironically, I don't love duck. But the fat is yummy.

Thanks @bosco! I just got back from vacation and I am eagerly counting the days. At some point last week I cured out it was the NYK Theseus. That is actually the boat I have been tracking, but I just haven't been calling it by the right name. Oops! In the meantime, I have been trying to accumulate all of the other stuff I may need. I have been looking for a 2qt CI dutch oven to make an "@Syzygiesbrand" smoker pot with. I may have to order one online. What type of 1/8" bit did you use to drill the holes? Will a standard bit work?
-
They do seem to be going easy! I'm on vacation this week anyway which helps me to relax and not think about it too much. I'm doing my best to be relaxed like Aussie Ora.
-
It's making it! It is on its way across the Atlantic. I can't track it again until it gets closer to California. July 30 is currently the best eta.

Shuley, my wife grew up in Austin and Ft. Worth. We go back regularly just for the food. You have to hit Stubbs. Try to time it right and there are really great concerts in his "backyard". Franklins is also fantastic. The beauty of Texas bbq is the diversity. Everyone has their preference, but none of it is bad. Also, if you like Mexican, hit Trudy's Texas Star. It is one of my fave restaurants in all the US. My wife and I named our first child (a gorgeous springer spaniel) "Trudy Margarita" after this restaurant. Have a margarita but do it as a Mexican martini. Try Matt's El Rancho. Again, an Austin Mexican institution. The food trucks are fantastic. Haven't had a bad one yet. After all the margaritas, bbq, and Mexican, you will need to hit Kerbey lane. Great breakfast place. The gingerbread pancakes will erase the sins of the night before! -
That is my fear. I am by no means an excellent cook. I can find my way around a barbecue and I generally manage to grill and smoke things without screwing up too bad, but now, I won't have any excuses to hide behind. If it isn't right, it's because of me. Once you figure it all out, you can help guide me through it.

This is a very helpful thread. I'm bookmarking it so I can come back once I have my KK delivered. Steve - you are going to have it dialed in. There's so much knowledge and help on here that you can't go wrong.

I hear ya guys. I would find a way to go paddle if I thought it would help. Oh well. It is on its way. Soon enough!

I found out this morning, it is on the Theseus. Scheduled to dock in Long Beach on July 30. Hoping it will clear customs and make it across the states in time for a mid August delivery. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You are still doing better than me. Mine left Surabaya June 24th. I am hoping it makes California by August. From there it is on a truck all the way across the US and then south down into Florida. I am hoping for mid to late August.
-
Ok. Quick search.... Your grill will leave Surabaya aboard the Kota Hadiah on Tuesday July 19th and arrive in Singapore on Friday the 22nd. From there there are many options for getting to Fremantle: 1) Best option - Aboard the Kota Lambai from Singapore to Fremantle leaving July 27 and arriving August 1. 2) second choice - Aboard the Margaret River Bridge from Singapore to Fremantle leaving July 29th and arriving August 4th. 3) There are a ton of additional options, but all involve going to Melbourne, Sydney or elsewhere first and spending 10-20 days in transit. My bet is that your grill will be on one of these two boats. While I realize you are not nearly as neurotic as I am, I hope this helps.
