Storage of yeast in freezer!
Pequod replied to Garvinque's topic in Bread, Pizza, Pastries or Desserts
I keep it in the fridge, not the freezer, mostly because items like that tend to get lost and forgotten in the freezer. Also, don't use all that much yeast since most things are leavened with sourdough here. -
Confirmed -- I found the brochure that was sent from registering your email with the "Join the Club" button and it includes dimensions for the 23. ...and you'll also find dimensions here: http://komodokamado.com/pages/23-ultimate

I know I've seen this information. If you don't see it on the website (http://komodokamado.com), then it's probably in the pdf that Dennis sends you if you submit your email address at the top of the page -- the "Join the Club" button.

1"...that's a bit bigger than I'd want I think. Whole chicken wings wouldn't be a problem, but wing pieces can slide through. Still looking...

Spot on. Once I got the spousal green light on my 32, Dennis had my money within hours.

I was wondering the same thing about a shim. My experience with spit rods, both on KK and other cookers, is that anything not tightened will wiggle itself loose in about two turns. The best answer might actually be the cheapest -- supports multiple rod sizes with an adjustable screw: http://www.onegrill.com/Grill_Rotisserie_Spit_Rod_Tumble_Basket_p/4pb11.htm Only issue I see is with the size of the slats. Anything small will slide right through.

So the Fill it n' Grill it guy finally responded to my question: I *think* what he means is that the 5/16" rod basket could be opened wider for 3/8 and then bend the tabs to make it narrower again, but that looks like a kludgy solution that will reduce the life of the basket. Still looking...

Based on the thread title I was expecting to see YOU spinning. What a let down.

Is the potato recipe from Cooks Illustrated? Sounds like a recipe we do. It's excellent.
-
Those videos may be a bit dated. The pictures at the OneGrill website show that it has holes at each end of the basket to pass your own spit rod through. They have two baskets. One for 5/16" rods and one for 3/8" and 1/2" rods.
-
Yeah, seems to be a bit of a fly by night operation. I emailed him the question of whether they have a single basket that would work for both a 3/8" rod and a 5/16" rod. He sent me an email to call him at a particular time, which had already passed by the time I saw it. Simple question with a yes or no answer. Since he declined to answer directly I'm guessing the answer is no. still looking...

Hadn't seen that, no. Very interesting. Limited to 5/16" rods, but loads of flexibility there. Edit: Looks like they have another version of the same thing for 3/8" rods, but it describes thumbscrews for tightening. Wonder if it could be tightened enough to handle 5/16"?
-
Hmmm...the ordering info on the right of that page requires you to specify 5/16" square, 3/8" square, or 1/2" hexagon. The KK spit rods are 5/16" for the 23" and 3/8" for the 32" Maybe I'll email them and ask if there's one size that fits both.

Anyone have one of these Roti Baskets? http://www.fillitandgrillit.com I have the flat OneGrill basket like @Shuley uses, but am thinking about a tumbler. The one downside of the Fill It and Grill It is that they are built for only one spit rod size -- apparently no thumb screws to tighten for smaller rods. So I'd have to choose one for either the 23 or the 32 sized spit rod, but won't work for the other.

I just ordered a 32 to go with my 23. Some thoughts: I always own two cookers for the simple reason of being able to run two temps at once. I had a KJ Classic as my second cooker, but sold it because I never used it. I didn't use it because it's hard to drive a Buick when you're used to a Lamborghini. I ordered the same accessories as you, but didn't order a drip pan and did order the Roti spit rod. Don't use the drip pan that often, and when I do I have one for the 23. I anticipate using the 32 a lot for grilling and baking. The shape and basket splitter make it a natural for 2-zone cooking. The larger baking surface means 2 pizzas at once.

The tube on mine is straight, but suspect I got an early model.

I've got four burley Army ROTC cadets lined up for first week of March. My job will be to point the way and cook them each a steak afterward.
-
Awesome, congrats! Beautiful setting too! And that color...looks like it would match my 23 and inbound 32...
-
Oh...that looks like something I need to do. Where do I find Rak's recipe for gyros? Never mind...found it!
-
No. There's a small, but steepish hill involved. We'll use the plywood sheet leapfrog method, but require terra firma beneath that. Ice or mud would be highly problematic on the hill. Plywood sheets on ice are known as "sleds".
-
Moving crew is lined up for the week of March 6. The only names that come to mind for these are "Fat Man" and "Little Boy." Gotta do better than naming after nuclear weapons...
-
That's my feeling. I kept toying with thoughts of grabbing a second 23, one of those sale priced 22's, or even a 19. But the 23/32 combo -- that's all I could ever want.
-
Lol! I was certain I wouldn't go for matching colors, but Dennis sent me pics of this one which is in the process of clearing customs. As perfect a match as I could hope for.
-
Yep. Dennis is going to hold until I say go. Gotta get through the February weather then should be cleared hot.

I'll let @ckreef tell her.
