Re: confessions of a butcher
Yah, that's his real name, too!...confessions of a butcher by john smith... -
Cowboy (available at ACE Hardware and Lowe's) is ok. Some say sparky, some say lot of ash. And sometimes pieces of wood that look familiar (like molding or 2x4). Some have said they found plywood, but I've not. One does NOT burn plywood, of course.
BGE stores sell their own brand, which is made by Royal Oak. Expensive for Royal Oak. Wal*Mart also has Royal Oak, and less expensive. Wegman's brand (a grocery store in the Northeast) has its store brand, which is, yes, Royal Oak.
Kingsford lump is also available, but (from what I've read) has gotten uniformly bad reviews. Sparks a LOT!
Farther south, there's a lot of mesquite available. Probably in AZ where you are there's quite a bit. Some like it, some say it sparks, some say it's too strong a flavor.
Speriment, see what you like.

Jeez, guys, you know NUTHIN about foreplay!
Always gotta rush to the main event. :sigh:

ooh aaah!

Good luck. Sorry about the storms, but I hope you and your family are safe. Meat products, not so much, I guess, what with power outage. Good you have a KK, so you can cook without electricity (between twisters, of course).
Yup, a lukewarm beer and a sleep, for sure. Rest well :*

Bad enough tryin to avoid a burn from hot muffler. How to avoid a singed calf from hot cooker/passenger?
-
A truly HOT rod!
New meaning to "take out."
-
Well...I'd love to tell you about my Ciabatta experience on the kk last night' date=' but I got so involved I forgot to take pics...so I guess it didn't happen. [/quote']Well, you can tell us what you IMAGINED happened.
Just know it didn't REALLY happen unless there are pics.
-
Oh, Porkchop, you CANNIBAL!!
-
Its on its way from LA!
Hopefully I can arrange delivery Friday, so I can spend the weekend rubbing in the grout sealant (it rains a LOT here in the Winter), and smoking a turkey. I'll be sure to take pics
What kind of rolling papers do you use? I've tried smoking salmon, but the papers get all messed up when I tried to roll it.

Re: pepper mills?
U2 ' date='makes pepper mill? PM me![/quote']Cozy (U2PLT) makes neato squares and colors. Quite the works of art.

I forget what country is on my boxes from last year, but the box doesn't have the "Kamado" logo on it. I can check in the light tomorrow.
::Later::
I looked. Doesn't say "Kamado" on the box. Says "Tropical Charcoal." Made in Thailand. So, I must have what Cozy has. Delivered summer 2006.

Here's a link, I think.

There is a lot of wild boar around the area he lives....maybe
Yah, I know how that can be. I'm up against bores every day at work. Usually not wild, but the domestic bores can be just as bad.
Just wanna gnaw yer own arm off so you can make some excuse like "I have to go to the hospital now, so we'll have to continue this later, k?"
I can just imagine how bad the wild ones must be. If that's what Doggy is up against, odds aren't good!
-
Yah, Bambi wasn't such a pushover after all. She and da Boyz musta roughed him up some...
-
Haven't heard from Lead Doggy lately, but he's the King of KK Venison. Search "venison" in the forum, and you'll find it. He has done standing roasts, ribs, steaks, and so forth, and posted pictures.
Or search on posts by LeadDog.

Hey' date=' I'm a family of three also. I didn't mean you needed a larger one, just in my limited experience, was wondering if they are normally larger but this one was trimmed a lot [/quote']Um... Aren't families of three usually about the same size? I mean, THREE.
Granted, each of the individuals might be larger or smaller...
Could be that someone had a family of five, and trimmed it a lot, I guess. Then it could be a family of three that was larger.
S'very confusing for us non-professional Q people...
-
Excellent.
Gold star!
-
ouch...forgive me' date=' it won't happen again ...[/quote']Don't you mean it WILL happen next time? Seems like it already "didn't happen." So if it "doesn't happen" again, you'll be in pretty deep, fella!
We have RULES and STANDARDS, after all. Ok, so they're pretty low, but still!

We were actually sworn not to give out particular details of his techniques' date=' so I have to honor that request.[/quote']
Bet they installed the microchip, too, so he KNOWS if you tell.
On the plus side, you prolly learned the secret handshake so you can recognize each other!

After reading TNW's response to Sanny I think I mis-interpretted her question....Sorry Sanny I thought you were questioning the point of testing/evaluating the coal not just the 9 piece test. I need to focus better....especially with the attorney...she might destory me with the cross exam!
My question was what was he testing! Couldn't figger out what he was doin.
Now I understand, he's comparing the lump from one to another. Makes sense.
Just give me chocolate.

Re: Head scratchin
We are never, NEVER to question any of these official tests. We don't have our PHD's in Lump or Ceramics, only the Whiz does. ...(But secretely I also wonder)
Well, yah, I guess you're right. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons...
-
$159' date=' wow, didn't they used to be in the upper $200's or something. Finally, a Guru for us commoners [/quote']Speak for yourself! That interferes with my chocolate budget!
And without chocolate, people die. I mean, they don't die if THEY don't get chocolate. They die if *I* don't get chocolate!
-
Head scratchin
I'm still trying to figure out what the goal of the test is.
Testing lump?
Testing heat retention in the cooker?
Just playin at setting things on fire?
Waving red flags at bull, to see who pokes at you?
Labor day plans??
