Large lump

Have you received a piece of lump this big in a standard size bag? This is B&B lump. Had a few other large pieces, but not this big. Those are 12" tongs.

The charcoal I use from Argentina is mainly made up of huge pieces. I have a hatchet and hammer with my charcoal to bust them up. Better the pieces be too big then too small. I've wondered about just using those huge chunks without breaking them up.

There's usually one or two of those in a 40# Lazzari hardwood lump bag. I'd save them for the right cook, leave them whole. Trouble was, there was also too many crumbs that would fall through a 1" screen. I switched to their briquets, exact same taste and easier handling. There's a kind of fire where one prefers lump, but not how I tend to use my KK.

I don't like extra large pieces. I would really rather have md sized pieces. Never got anything that big.

For my everyday lump I use FOGO. It has large pieces, but nothing quite that big. FOGO has just the size distribution I'm looking for ... about 50% large, 40% medium, and the rest small and dust. It's dense, burn hot, and, like a Tootsie Roll, it lasts a long time.

Syzygies, you keep lauding that Lazzari briquette and I think you're going to force me to try some boxes.

CeramicChef is right,  FOGO has the biggest pieces of charcoal I've ever gotten in a bag and I've tried dozens of brands. Don't think that I've ever gotten one quite that big poochie, but there are a lot of 4" - 6" pieces in a bag.
