Pizza Stone substitute suggestions

Recommended Posts

My wife advise me earlier today that she wants me to bake a couple pizzas on my new 32 inch bad boy.  I am always willing to accommodate  her requests and I just smiled at her and said sure honey. Problem is I am still waiting on delivery of my pizza stone among other accessories since delivery of my 32 inch over a month ago. Can anyone offer me a suggestion on what to use as a substitute  baking platform?

Run down to the nearest Bed, Bath & Beyond and buy a cheap pizza stone. It will get you by until the good one shows up. But, be warned, they are thin and I've had one actually split on the upper grill after heat soaking when I opened the lid and a rush of cool air hit it. It went "tink" and the next second, it was in 2 pieces. On the upside, it does come with a nice wooden peal.

Plan B - deep dish pan on the deflector stone.

Plan C - aluminum foil on the deflector stone, if you aren't doing deep dish.

Exactly what Tony, the broccoli man says. There really is no substitute for the KK baking stone but you do have a work around and may I suggest you not try to do an extra high temperature cook. Good luck.

I don't know what I was thinking guys and ladies. I just use the so far unused heat deflector stones and put a cookie sheet on top with the pizza.

Ahhhhhh, but remember that heat deflector is not the same as the baking stone but in a pinch :) Wait until you get the baking stone and you'll know what I mean. Looking forward to the baked version of those pizzas. :) :smt038
