Turtle Beans on the KK

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

A friend gave me a batch of turtle beans that she grew last year.

Added 10 smashed  cloves of garlic, 1 large onion quartered with some of the root on all 4 pieces, one orange juiced and the orange shell to beans that were soaked overnight. Put them on the KK to simmer for 8 or more until they were soft.

Plated with a salad and garlic bread.

When the beans are done throw out the orange peel and the onion chunks.

@MacKenzie - those are some kind of good looking beans.  Like @Aussie Ora, I've never heard of turtle beans.  Down here in these parts we call those black beans.  No matter, they are delicious, especially with some ham hock and jalapeño.  I wish I had a big bowl of those turtle beams right now.  Kudos!

Bruce you might think all that garlic would over power things but not so, it was nice and mellow with Just a hint of orange. :)

One thing I like is that this recipe has no added sugar of any kind and most beans seem to have tons of sugar in one form or another.
