Yeah- we were making proper sale bombs until we ran out of the right kind of beer but still had sake. Necessity is the mother of invention!

I can tell you about hummingbirds. In 2015 my wife went through 110 lbs. of sugar making juice for them. She was making close to a gallon a day. I tell her they're not hummingbirds they're more like bumming herds. And Charles is right. They don't crash. Also the males don't migrate, they stay through the winter so keep one feeder available.

Seems like everyone in FL is in the cross-hairs of this one, as it's so big! While I have a number of folks in FL that I'm worried about, I'm mostly concerned about my friends in Orlando, as they have a really big oak tree in their front yard that overhangs the house! Fortunately, they aren't staying there, but with relatives in the area. With all the news on the hurricanes, I did see a couple of good tips that might come in handy. First, you can turn your washing machine into a makeshift ice box by filling it with ice and putting your food/beverages in there. Since the washer is designed to have water in it, the melting ice will drain out and won’t be a problem, and the double walled construction makes for decent insulation (provided you don’t open the lid too often.) The other one is to put valuable papers and other things into a garbage bag and put them inside the dishwasher. Because it’s water tight, your papers will be safe in there from any water damage. Keep safe!

My sister, brother-in-law, 4 German Sheppards and some type of terrier invaded the house about 8:30 pm last. The only dogs I allow to visit the house is my sister's. They have all been to obedience school and know how to listen and behave. After today I should have the next 4 days off to cook some good food. If I can find a decent Boston butt on the way home from work tonight I'll smoke that up tomorrow.

Irma is coming directly for us. Fortunately we are far enough North that it'll only be a tropical storm by the time it reaches the Bistro. I have 5 or 6 bags of charcoal and 1 1/2 tanks of propane. I can cook for awhile even if we loose electricity. Might try and buy a bunch of ice to fill the 5 day cooler. That way if we loose electricity for a few days we won't be forced to cook the entire freezer at one time.

My sister actually came up from FL and arrived last night. Unfortunately it was such a last minute decision she didn't have time to do anything other than pack some clothes and leave. Normally it's an 8 hour drive. Took her 14 1/2 hours. Good decision on her part as the eye over the storm shifted and will probably pass directly over her house. Wish there was time to plan because I would have definitely gotten her to grab a couple of bottles. I actually have a box with some homemade jams ready to send you. I think I need to wait awhile - LOL

I have been wanting to make homemade chicken noodle soup and today was the day. Made the noodles and used some of yesterdays rotisserie chicken thighs, vegetable stock, along with pimento, a touch of sriracha and purple crack. I could have eaten a second bowl. Yum.

Very tasty looking steak and the fries don't look bad either. Ditch the ketchup and drizzle some brown gravy over the fries. Not trying to start a war or anything - just sayin ........ LOL
