  1. My wife wants me to audition for thanksgiving for her family. What would be the best way to spin a good size turkey on my 32? I already have a set of Octoforks and a KK spit rod. Would a KK roti basket be the best way or do you think Octoforks with butchers twine work? I spun 2 chickens and a pineapple last week and they turned out AWESOME!

  2. I pooh poohed the idea of a MAPP torch when @tony b first mentioned it. I also resisted the Milwaukee blowy thing and even supported @Bruce Pearson in his decision to step away from the till and leave the leaf blower in the shop. However, I have since succumbed myself and am so pleased that I did. I use dense coco char in the KKs and it is difficult to light. To get things going I put a small pile of catering grate charcoal in the middle of the pile of coco char and light the pile with a MAPP torch. I then blow with a Matki leaf blower (brand available in the UK: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NLXXQXQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ). I walk away and come back for a second blow about 10-15 mins in and I now never get that cold coal feeling. I have learned some safety lessons too. The catering charcoal sometimes sparks when you light/blow it and a small ember flew up at my eye once. No damage done but I now where safety glasses and a long gauntlet when I light the KK. Looks ridiculous but better safe than sorry.

  5. I'm sure this is all good with a gap for the heat and the unit is insulated .but may I suggest getting a galvanized box made up for it to sit in the table. For piece of mind lol Outback kamado Bar and Grill

  6. I had 4 of these that I want to get rid of before the pork side I order arrives so I sous vided them all. Today I was having one for dinner so decided to light the Solo Stove to sear the steak. (Another Syzygies idea. It only take a few mins to get this stove going and I usually do that in a KK for safety sake. I wish I had taken a pix of the Konro grate on the Solo Stove, next time. It is such a quick way of searing, fantastic. Here are the results- This stove is small and it is not going to do searing for a crowd but for a small family, perfect because it only takes a few mins to light and then sear.

  8. I'm sure if you have a carpenter he could make the cutout and line it with finish wood to look awesome. Just leave 3/4"-1" gap all around for heat issues as these can get really hot if you get it rocking. He could also make a matching top. Me and Mrs skreef are off all next week to work on the indoor project. I might try a wood finish on the Konro. If it looks like crap I can always fall back on the SS idea. Who knows, we'll see what next week brings.

  9. Thanks mate, I’m still amazed every time I cook on it! Absolutely sensational Kamado! Everyone that’s seen it absolutely loves it. We had a couple of guys come round to quote on some shutters last week, when one of them spotted it he couldn’t believe it, couldn’t stop talking about it, I heard him say to the other guy he was with “I’m gonna tell Matty I’ve seen one in the flesh, he’ll be spewing” haha

  12. Everything went really well. I cut the 4 pound roast in half and it got to medium temp in about 40 minutes. I kept it warm about an hour until supper time. The sourdough rolls actually had a perfect soft crust - mine are often too hard. One guest commented it was the best meal she had ever had that started as a chuck roast. The vanilla ice cream was (always) an excellent addition to the blackberry pie.

  13. Yeah, the regular MEATER has a fairly short range. It doesn't affect my cooks much because my KK is only a few feet outside my kitchen door. However, the signal still periodically just drops out; but re-connects itself almost immediately. I had to change the sound it makes for the alarm to the least annoying one as it was driving me crazy!!
