  1. That is great news! I have heard a lot about coconut but until Komodo stepped in to do the distro, then there wasn't much chance I was going to try it. Looking forward to hearing more of the details to be able to try it out!
  2. After Gerard's experience with the K I don't know that it would rate higher than a webber kettle knockoff from K-mart.
  3. I was talking the other day with a friend who is a BBQ nut (I say that in the kindest way ). He travels a lot and when on his trips to different states he thinks nothing of driving five hours one way just to get to a famous BBQ joint. He also collects the sauces of joints from all over the country--he has a whole room in his house dedicated to showcasing his extensive collection of sauces. But here is the question for our expert chefs here on the board.... Have any of you ever done ribs indirect at 180 degrees for 18 hours? This guys swares it is the only way. Personally I am happy with the 6 hour method at 250. What do the experts think??
  4. Layed flat to put all the spices in it and rolled it back up for the marinade. I think the marinade idea turned out to be a waste of good orange juice. Lamb with lots of spices is like coffee. Almost everyone thinks it smells great, but far fewer actually like the way it tastes.
  5. First time to try lamb on the KK. Marinated and stuffed with curry, cloves, rosemary, garlic etc. Cooked at 370 and pulled at 150.
  6. Re: Thermometers Imagine the luck.
  7. I can vouch for the Lazarri. I am very pleased with it! I am down to about 60 lbs. and am good for up to 10 bags whenever the trigger man pulls. "billwelan" was the other KK owner here in the Tampa area that bought some of the last batch. If you have your Ultimate by the time we do another pickup, there will be a need for bibs because of the drooling!
  8. I thought the motor fit into the tube. I'll call guru back tomorrow. What part do I need to ask for exactly? I'm telling the guy Komodo and he thinks I'm saying Kamado and it just get's worse from there Is this what it looks like? It's all I could find on the website. It costs $35. That is what I use. It works great.
  9. Re: Noses and seeing stuff You should see Chubby use his nose when he's burying something...he's good with that thing It's usually got the red clay on it cause he's got stuff buried all around. I was playing catch with him, or rather, I throw the ball, he runs and gets it and runs from me until I can make him stop long enough to pry the ball from his clenched teeth and throw it again. Hehe! Those rascilly dogs... The easiest way I have dealt with these rascals is to have a second ball to throw so they let go of the first one. But, as soon as I tought that I had outsmarted them, it dawned on me that I had been tricked into buying two toys instead of just one!
  10. Great news! If the coals shut down quickly then you are in bidness!!
  11. Re: Grilling Wok Ahh, that's what that was. I thought maybe some local creepy crawler had found it's way onto your menu I thought it might have been the meat from the Thai Mang Dah critters--sans shells. Nah... knew better than that! Thanks Firemonkey for the pics. Great looking meal!!
  12. FT, I have my fingers crossed for you..!! Good luck!! Turtle
  13. When I was a kid I seem to remember another young kid on TV named "Mikey" that would "eat anything". Back then it was the introduction of "Life Cereal". Maybe someone can find Mikey for us. As an adult, he may have grown up to be even more daring! Since we all grew to understand that "Life Cereal" tastes good, inspite of our first reaction.. then posibly we could... Possibly we could... On second thought, wasn't Mikey in the obits back in 1999?
  14. Re: Spicy Smoked Thai Mang Dah, the Other Grey Meat! Wow those look like they have a lot of flavor! With your new website coming soon, you may consider multipe versions, each with pictures of regional specialties uniquely presented according to the location of the websurfer's IP address. Egypt websurfers could have pics of camel, Australia pics of kangeroo, South America pics of llamas, etc. Pictures of these litte guys have got to impact sales!
  15. Re: Success at last !! Niiice setting for the KK! Good to hear your cooks are on track-- and without a guru no less! I havn't mastered the low and slow without a guru. (Porkchop may chime in and give you special kudos for KK cooking sans guru!) I'm a newbie too and concur that the folks here on the board are a great help! They have a lot of invaluable insight and guidance!
  16. Adjusted the back hinge? Some folks have had to adjust the back hinge (I did). If I recall correctly I took all the tension off the hinge spring and disconected. Then loosened the top nuts on the hinge. This allowed the dome to fully sit flat on the lower base. Then tightened the hinge nuts back, and then readjust the front latch too. Then finally reconnected the spring and added the tension back in. Since the top and bottom are cast, once you have the hinge tightened with the dome flat, it will not leak. I use mine alot and haven't had to adjust since. The following link talks about it too.. http://www.komodokamado.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1082&highlight=hinge
  17. Schucks.. I didn't know that the federal penal system was so spread out. Or was it Amway? I mean, Microsoft didn't really exist yet.
  18. Re: I Feeling X-Tra Sarcastic Today Break the KK stone in half..? I'm not sure it can be done. Even a sledge hammer might loose that fight.
  19. Great pic share! Congratulations on your first cook! Love the pictures of your KK and the great setting too--fresh and airy woods. Ahh the smell of a low and slow wafting through the glade....
  20. The question about global warming being scientifically true or false is irrelevant. I did not raise that question. To agree completely that the science is 100% accurate and that we must therefore obey the laws of environmentalists to honor the planet would miss the relevant question. The relevant question is, “For whom must you acknowledge the requirement to make personal sacrifices?â€
  21. Honor Gaia? So-named global warming pretends to be a scientific conversation but looks more like an old religion with doctrines of personal sacrifice and self denial, evangelical calls for repentance from sin, and promises of salvation. But that is just an observation.. flame away.. http://www.gaiaswomb.com/about.htm http://www.pantheon.org/articles/g/gaia.html http://www.gaiafoundation.org/ http://www.gaia.org/gaia/ http://www.gaiamind.org/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_hypothesis http://www.gaia-inst.org/ http://www.gaiauniversity.org/english/
