  1. Good news guys, forgotten feature! As the list of my Komodo cookers features grows, my memory sometimes fails me. It takes a problem to remind me of the problems solved by my R&D team. The cooker can be easily opened and carried in two pieces. A 19mm socket wrench is thoughtfully provided for connivence with all KK cookers, this is used to adjust the dome spring tension. (Grills are shipped without tension for safety) To remove the dome top, remove the rear hinge cover, loosen the spring tension and bolt with provided the 19mm socket wrench, remove the clip from the main hinge shaft, tap the shaft free using a hammer and small piece of wood, unhook the spring and carry the two halves separately. Top half OTb about 100lbs - lower half w/stand and wheels about 240lbs. The lower half comes with a rope harness that enables a few guys to carry them. Let's talk user friendly!
  2. Lead time I have cookers in stock both CA and FL at present. Just sold Mike my last Supreme OTB which is just getting in. The OTB's never quite make shore unsold. 1 Supreme Classic left in Fl LA has Classics in stock both Supreme and Deluxe versions. I have 40 bodies just out of the vacuum kiln awaiting assembly and tiles or texture standing in the factory. Tiles for 60 grills will be delivered today. Custom orders can usually be completed in about a week. Shipping is 26 days to LA, 40 days to FL. Both the purchasing and cooking on a Kamado should be a pleasent experience that's just one of the reasons I build Komodos. Textured or tiled my friend?
  3. Let them say what they want about my refractory material. This is what it is and how well it performs.
  4. Maverick temperature probe, Neoprene gloves, Welding gloves, you can handle hot coals with them. OXO brand great big tongs, Big Weber chimney fire starter. Big rubbermaid container to keep your charcoal dry. Komodo Kamado ceramic cooker!
  5. In a desperate and pathetic attempt to discredit my product, the Kamado in Mex. manufacturers made claims both on their forum and on Ebay that my product contain asbestos, this is complete and utter nonsense. My Komodo cooker contains Silica, Alumina, Iron Oxide, Lime, Magnesia, Titania, Alkalies... That's it. They were very upset when I let the cat out of the bag and told people that at least until two years ago theirs was made primarily of common Portland cement mixed with volcanic cinder. Not exactly high tech I know this of course because their abandoned workers now work for me. Material Data Sheets posted in the Nuts, Bolts and Refractory Materials area
  6. Airflow & Insulation dictates fuel consumption. I must say that I've never filled one up and tried to see how long it would burn. But I can tell you that how long the fuel burns is determined by the following factors: Insulation, Komodo Kamado is the ONLY ceramic to have both a refractory material as well as insulating material. In fact, it's the only ceramic to have any actual insulation. One might argue that the dense materials the others are made of insulate those cookers but only when compared with metal... The fact is that dense materials do not make good insulators. Airflow control. The combination of the double top and center gaskets along with a CNC precision laser cut lower draft assemblies with the low airflow dial which is found on ALL models of KK prevent low airflow leaks. So I'd have to say that feature for feature Komodo's have the ability to burn your charcoal more slowly and that less of the heat generated will be lost. Conclusion, a Komodo will cook longer by design.
  7. Break-in period... No longer needed. Thank you Paul, I really love to hear it... To clarify, the seals were not covered in the guarentee but I'm glad that our exceptional customer service department (me,myself and I) handled it appropriately As per the break in period, I came to the conclusion that those small fissures caused by the steam leaving the body through the grout compromises the seal and permits water to get back under the tiles. This can really be problematic in area where temps drop below freezing. Solution found... I have completely eliminated the need to break in your grill slowly by removing the water in the factory using a Vacuum chamber designed to dry wood. I pull on average 4 liters of water (1 gal) out of each half! My newest grills can be cranked up to 750ºf on the first cook. Please be sure and confirm you have one of these new models before you try this And in answer to his seal comment... I now have a new double inner top and outer bottom gasket design that gives you twice the sealing territory.. I'll research the cast iron grill...
  8. Just a note.. Thank you Vicki, Hearing happy customers boast about their KK's and the food that comes out of them is an added plus that I'm really enjoying. Love the "Best Grill Out There" description too Just to clarify... Early production KK's had the problematic external straps like all the other ceramics. The torque from the self-opening springs could create leaks and cracks where the bolts went through the body. Strap alignment problems led to the the new design where the strap is cast in permanent position inside the body's material. The new hinge design put all the torque in one area. The precision positioning of the straps also fixed the alignment problems. And yes, all grills that tweaked, leaked or cracked were immediately replaced at no expense to the customer. Vicky, thank you so much for all your kind words.. It's great to be appreciated.. I'd love to see a shot of your grill
  9. I 2 recommend using a grout sealer once a year... As I said in my FAQ under tile loss, I firmly believe that the secret is to maintain the integrity of the grout seal.. Especially in areas that drop below freezing. Grout can be used outside but the UV, hot, cold wind, sleet and snow will eventually cause deterioration. Remember they break down stone. With this in mind, I also recommend using a grout sealer once a year and watching for failures in the grout i.e.. cracks. An ounce of prevention...
  10. Please excuse the legalese language but it's a sad reflection of the world we live in. What I'm basically trying to say is, that the grill is well built using quality materials with CARE. Please remember that you need to maintain your grill. Please inspect your grill a couple times a year to ensure the integrity of the acrylic jacket that is used as the adhesive and grout for the tiles. Keeping moisture out of the insulation is of utmost importance. Please monitor crazing/cracks and keep them filled with material supplied by KK. Limited Lifetime Warranty* Komodo Kamado grills are warranted for the life of the product as long as it remains in possession of the original purchaser and proof of purchase can be demonstrated. *This warranty covers all defects in the materials and workmanship of the grill's body and components. The word "defects", as used in this warranty, is defined as imperfections that impair the utility of the product. This warranty and does not apply to intentionally misused grills, or to damage resulting from negligence, exposure, rental or commercial use, improper cleaning, lack of maintenance/upkeep or other unreasonable uses. Not covered by the warranty is normal wear and tear (as reasonably determined by Komodo Kamado) and defined as "normal deterioration incurred by regular use of a grill." This warranty does not cover damage, loss, or other conditions beyond what the grill was designed for, negligence, misuse or abuse, improper installation or improper maintenance, acts of God such as: wind damage, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fire, monsoons, typhoons, cyclones, and any other naturally caused events. In the unlikely event that a product has a defect, we require photos of the defect to determine the extent of the defect and the most efficient solution to resolving the problem. Photos should be emailed to [email protected] or be mailed to us for evaluation. If a grill component is defective within the terms of the warranty, Komodo Kamado will determine the method for repairing the defective component. No assembly labor is included for such repairs. Komodo Kamado shall replace parts found defective with equivalent parts and shall ship such parts at the purchaser's expense to the purchaser's shipping address. Replacements on discontinued models may require additional funding. Any refunds or credits given will use a 20-year depreciation schedule. Komodo Kamado insures all shipments and does not assume responsibility for any loss or damage incurred in shipping. But please note that this is an actual warranty... If a company says, "we guarantee a grill will never "burn out" or become brittle with use as the clay Kamados of old" that covers what exactly, the portland cement based body? and the rest of the cooker? Exactly my point... phuey..
  11. E-Z Que Rotisserie ready feature Hello, I'm really pleased with my E-Z Que Rotisserie ready feature.. & I'm also proud to have the only OEM Rotisserie ready ceramic grill that cooks with the dome closed. Please take a peek at the .avi (movie) by clicking on the upper photo
  12. Hello, I'm really pleased with my E-Z Que Rotisserie ready feature.. & I'm also proud to have the only OEM Rotisserie ready ceramic grill that cooks with the dome closed. Please take a peek at the .avi (movie) by clicking on the upper photo FYI Much to my disapointment the delivery missed the deadline and our grill did not make the Salt Lake, Patio, Hearth and BBQ Expo March 9th -12th..
  13. Hello, I'm Dennis Linkletter designer and builder of Komodo Kamado, welcome to my forum. It's been a long road but I'm absolutely confidant that from a standpoint of quality of materials, construction and design, I build the best ceramic grill available. From the stainless damper top assembly to the German castors you'll find that every component and feature is the product of thoughtful design and no other grill can match my Komodo feature for feature. I hope that forum users will share ideas and be able to contribute to Komodo's ongoing evolution and development. Unlike the other forums which prohibit discussions about the competition, I want this forum to be truly pro ceramic, to welcome and promotes discussions about all ceramics and cooking on them... If you want to compare my KK cookers with the others, great bring it on...I've even included links to the all other manufacturers to help you do comparisons. I believe that all the ceramic grills fill a certain niche in the marketplace and have the ability to produce great food. I know that I could learn to be happy cooking on any of them.. it just would not be as easy, convenient or enjoyable as on my Komodo. I must admit I'm a bit lazy and I have designed my grills for ease of use and that many of my features are not necessary but a luxury. My cooker could be described as an unique shaped, extravagant, self-opening, extremely well insulated, tiled BGE with a lot of bells and whistles.. But remember food tastes great on them all.. I would like to ask that all posts be polite and please refrain from talking about politics and religion. If you're a diehard from a forum cult here to disturb and slander, please don't. If you like good people, great food, and ceramic cookers, you can and should register as a member of this forum. See above. So once again welcome to my forum, I hope that it becomes a great meeting place for friends as well a great resource. Dennis Linkletter Note: Images posted on the forum of KK cooks may be posted on Social media sites, if this is an issue for you please don't post them on this forum..
  14. The lil' Green egg that could... A great basic cooker with a large loyal following. The Big Green Egg Website http://www.biggreenegg.com Club Egg - Big Green Egg discussion forum. A great resource, Just don't mention Komodo Kamado... Tha's strictly off limits! http://biggreenegg.com/wwwboard/wwwboard.shtml
  15. Primo Grills And Smokers - Home of the Primo Kamado. http://www.primogrill.com A good looking apparently well built grill. Their new "coil hinge system" seems "inspired" by Komodo's spring, they say that immitation is the best form of flattery... Primo Message Board - Discussion board of Primo Grills. http://www.hwforums.com/2016/index.html A good resource, once again don't mention other ceramics... That's strictly off limits!
  16. Imperial Kamado - Home of the Imperial Kamado. http://www.imperialkamado.com Another grill claming to be the original.. with a colorful history.
  17. Kamado Company - Home of the Kamado brand ceramic charcoal grill. http://www.kamado.com An unusual history to say the least.. Production began in Sacramento, then moved to Indonesia, then back to the US, then to Mexico, back to Indonesia now back to the States and hiding behind a PO box in Las Vegas. Owner usually Richard Johnson from CA or assorted family members. Actually claims to have invented the Japanese word "Kamado" These Kamados are commonly referred to as a "POSK" Kamado.com Forum -- Discussion forum. http://www.kamado.com/cgi-bin/discus/discus.cgi Before attempting to do business with them I strongly recommend your googling "Kamado Fraud" or checking the CA better business bureau. Lots of colorful reading to be found
  18. High Temps 101 The body’s material is of the utmost importance. Harbison Walker, the industry leader in refractory products and I, designed, engineered and developed both materials and the manufacturing process for Komodo. The final product is a two-layer sandwich of a dense inner layer and a lightweight outer insulating layer. Thermal mass is the ability of a material to absorb heat energy. A lot of heat energy is required to change the temperature of high density materials like concrete, bricks and tiles. Thermal mass is not a substitute for insulation. Thermal mass stores and re-radiates heat. Insulation stops heat flowing into or out of the object. A high thermal mass material is not generally a good thermal insulator. How my two layer design works. When fuel is burned the dense inner layer comes to temperature (thermal Mass) quickly, it holds heat and reflects heat back towards the food. The lightweight insulating outer layer holds the heat in. The BBQs temperature is easy to stabilize and move both up and down while the insulation makes them extremely fuel efficient. These features make cooking temperatures easier to control. No other ceramic grill gives you the best of both worlds.. A dense refractory material near the heat source and an insulating jacket to keep the heat in and save fuel. The thin walled ceramics like BGE attain thermal mass quickly but also loose it quickly due to the lack of mass in the material. Put them where a cold winter wind blows and their temperature can be a bit unstable. Their lack of insulation results in heat loss as well as the outside can become very hot and potentially a burn hazard. The thick, dense walled Portland-mix BBQs like the South of the Border K might take a while to get there but they do hold thermal mass well because of their large volume of dense material but reducing temperatures also takes a much longer because their volume... Fine if you wanna wait.
