Komodo Quality vs Costs My original mission statement was to build the best cooker possible. When I discovered the quality of CNC laser cut components, I realized that it was extravagant to the point of being excessive and so of course I loved the idea. The original CNC prototypes cost me almost $500. My friends asked me who needs a BBQ with metalwork of this quality and expense? Nobody, I answered.. Who wants one? I do. I love and respect things that are fine quality and built state of the art. Of course this is not for the general public so I also offer my Deluxe stainless version and the most practical Standard version. This Komodo venture started out as a project and a design challenge that had commercial prospects. I build my cookers as if they were for a friend and try to give the same customer service I'd personally like to receive. Cost and inflation... • In the last 6-8 months the dollar has fallen against the Indonesian Rupiah by 8%. • In the last 6 months the Indonesian government cut back their subsidizing gasoline and the first hike was 127% followed by 25% • In the last 12 months inflation in Indonesia has been much more than the Governments' claimed 18%. • Every January wages are hiked 15-20%. • Stainless steel prices seem to go up monthly in Asia a result of the China's boom. All of these contribute to skyrocketing costs but I just won't cut corners on Komodos to reduce costs to generate sales. They cost what they cost.. some people get it others won't and that's ok. Hello, I have VOIP call and message service (voice over internet protocol) to Indonesia via two toll free (to Indonesia) US numbers. From these numbers you can leave as long a voice message as you like and can usually reach me when I'm in front of my computer. If not will usually get back to you that same day... Please remember that important or urgent information should also be sent in an Email as if the line is bad I might not be able to hear what you have said.. The technology is good, sometimes great but can also be poor to the point of being unusable during peak hours. • Los Angeles (310) 928-3648 • Atlanta (404) 418-6648 I'm usually around from 8:00 to 12:00am and 5 to 11:00pm Surabaya time.... Owners hours I hope this service/technology makes me being half way around the world a bit easier and improves our ability to communicate. I can also be reached on Skype.com if you have a usb headset and DSL line.. Please write and ask me for details. "Never ask a man what computer he uses. If it's a Mac, he'll tell you. If it's not, why embarrass him?" Tom Clancy

Detail 304 Stainless Shaft and Assembly Hello, Here is a peek at the latest incarnation of my machined 304 stainless damper top shaft and assembly. • Why machined you may ask? Because standard threads are too small and it would take too many turns to open her up full throtle. • Why so large? Better to overbuild (to last a lifetime). • Why stainless? Ask a Mexi-Kamado owner about their frozen closed, rusting steel ones! (sorry, just had to say that!) • These are of course standard on all my cookers not just the Supreme... Nuff said... Every job is a self-portrait of the person who did it. Best to autograph your work with excellence.

Rock's Stoker - BBQ Guru Competitor
DennisLinkletter replied to Nator's topic in KK Features & Accessories
Stoker Hello KK friends and family, I contacted John Jackson of Rock's Bar-B-Que and maker of the Stoker and he's just as interested in seeing a Komodo as I'm in seeing a Stoker, so I'm arranging his seeing a Komodo in the SF area. We will make it easy to use a Stoker on you KK.. Just another way to enjoy your Komodo Dennis -
Guru note Thanks Ron for your post and kind words, love to hear it and great to see my cookers on customer's porches being used. Forum users might want to take a closer peek at Ron's photos as they show both the BBQ Guru/faceplate being used as well as the polder tube with the Guru cable going through it into the meat. Ron's grill that popped open (and slammed closed and open and...) is the reason cookers are now shipped without tension in the spring.. Lesson learned, albeit an expensive one

As per your request... I know what your thinking... Nice Rack! This 18" 304 stainless grill comes complete with a built in brackets and is $64 I'll get you the exact measurement of the bracket legs but I'm guessing about 4" tall I need to take another shot that shows there are 3 vertical supports in each side of the bracket for stability.

Be smart, be safe... http://www.fsis.usda.gov/Fact_Sheets/Ba ... /index.asp Danger Zone You do not want to keep your food between 40 to 140ºf for more than 2 or 3 hours. This is very relevent with "low and slow cooks" with low cooking temps. If the meat you are preparing stays in this range longer than this you run the risk of serious sickness. Meat staying in the "danger zone" allows bacteria and toxins to grow at a tremendous rate and even though you may kill the bacteria while cooking, you will not get rid of the toxins that are left behind and can cause illness. Hey Mike, feel like a Kid before Christmas? . I was going through my desktop and found these images of Mike in Atlanta's Supreme OTB being packed. They also show a new idea we're trying with our crating. The cookers sit on a wood box that has a very dense black rubber pad and all the wheels get their own pad. Then we insert plywood boards inside the posts with the same dense black rubber pads at the widest point all around. The boards are flexed to give tension like leaf springs. Here is the front flexed/sprung padded board going in. This is a close up of the pad and board showing the tension/flex Komodo crates gotta be the best too I'm really open to and begging for suggestions on way to pack these behemoth beauties. Heylp please... So there you go Mike, a peek at your cooker all snug in it's crate.

KK cookerS can be easily opened and carried in two pieces. A 19-mm socket wrench is thoughtfully provided for connivence with all KK cookers, this is used to adjust the dome hinge spring tension. (Grills are shipped without tension for safety) To remove the dome top, remove the rear hinge cover, loosen the spring tension and bolt with provided the 19-mm socket wrench, remove the clip from the main hinge shaft, tap the shaft free using a hammer and small piece of wood, unhook the spring and carry the two halves separately. Top half Textured Classic is 81lbs - lower half w/stand and wheels about 209lbs with accessories 364lbs. The lower half comes with a rope harness that enables a few guys to carry them. Lower half and base with wheels come standard semi permanently connected at the factory. The base with wheels is cast separately and has four stainless tubes running through it from top to bottom. It is then securely connected to the lower half of the cooker with four large bolts and tiled or texture finished as one. It can be removed if necessary: I had a driver drop one off the back of his truck, it landed on one corner of the crate and seriously shattered one leg. I tiled up another base and fired it off to the customer who had received very adequate compensation from the truckers insurance company. The bolts were taken out and the fourth row of tiles was removed, one strong whack one each side along the seam with a large chisel split the base free.. then the new base was bolted into place and the tiles and grout reapplied. In most cases, the cooker would have just been replaced but this customer was all up for the project. Let's talk user friendly!

Good news guys, forgotten feature! As the list of my Komodo cookers features grows, my memory sometimes fails me. It takes a problem to remind me of the problems solved by my R&D team. The cooker can be easily opened and carried in two pieces. A 19mm socket wrench is thoughtfully provided for connivence with all KK cookers, this is used to adjust the dome spring tension. (Grills are shipped without tension for safety) To remove the dome top, remove the rear hinge cover, loosen the spring tension and bolt with provided the 19mm socket wrench, remove the clip from the main hinge shaft, tap the shaft free using a hammer and small piece of wood, unhook the spring and carry the two halves separately. Top half OTb about 100lbs - lower half w/stand and wheels about 240lbs. The lower half comes with a rope harness that enables a few guys to carry them. Let's talk user friendly!

Lead time I have cookers in stock both CA and FL at present. Just sold Mike my last Supreme OTB which is just getting in. The OTB's never quite make shore unsold. 1 Supreme Classic left in Fl LA has Classics in stock both Supreme and Deluxe versions. I have 40 bodies just out of the vacuum kiln awaiting assembly and tiles or texture standing in the factory. Tiles for 60 grills will be delivered today. Custom orders can usually be completed in about a week. Shipping is 26 days to LA, 40 days to FL. Both the purchasing and cooking on a Kamado should be a pleasent experience that's just one of the reasons I build Komodos. Textured or tiled my friend?

Let them say what they want about my refractory material. This is what it is and how well it performs.

What's all this talk on the Mex forum site about Asbestos?
DennisLinkletter posted a topic in KK 411
In a desperate and pathetic attempt to discredit my product, the Kamado in Mex. manufacturers made claims both on their forum and on Ebay that my product contain asbestos, this is complete and utter nonsense. My Komodo cooker contains Silica, Alumina, Iron Oxide, Lime, Magnesia, Titania, Alkalies... That's it. They were very upset when I let the cat out of the bag and told people that at least until two years ago theirs was made primarily of common Portland cement mixed with volcanic cinder. Not exactly high tech I know this of course because their abandoned workers now work for me. Material Data Sheets posted in the Nuts, Bolts and Refractory Materials area -
Airflow & Insulation dictates fuel consumption. I must say that I've never filled one up and tried to see how long it would burn. But I can tell you that how long the fuel burns is determined by the following factors: Insulation, Komodo Kamado is the ONLY ceramic to have both a refractory material as well as insulating material. In fact, it's the only ceramic to have any actual insulation. One might argue that the dense materials the others are made of insulate those cookers but only when compared with metal... The fact is that dense materials do not make good insulators. Airflow control. The combination of the double top and center gaskets along with a CNC precision laser cut lower draft assemblies with the low airflow dial which is found on ALL models of KK prevent low airflow leaks. So I'd have to say that feature for feature Komodo's have the ability to burn your charcoal more slowly and that less of the heat generated will be lost. Conclusion, a Komodo will cook longer by design.

One of the BEST buys I've ever made . . .
DennisLinkletter replied to paul1927's topic in KK Reviews / Happy Campers
Break-in period... No longer needed. Thank you Paul, I really love to hear it... To clarify, the seals were not covered in the guarentee but I'm glad that our exceptional customer service department (me,myself and I) handled it appropriately As per the break in period, I came to the conclusion that those small fissures caused by the steam leaving the body through the grout compromises the seal and permits water to get back under the tiles. This can really be problematic in area where temps drop below freezing. Solution found... I have completely eliminated the need to break in your grill slowly by removing the water in the factory using a Vacuum chamber designed to dry wood. I pull on average 4 liters of water (1 gal) out of each half! My newest grills can be cranked up to 750ºf on the first cook. Please be sure and confirm you have one of these new models before you try this And in answer to his seal comment... I now have a new double inner top and outer bottom gasket design that gives you twice the sealing territory.. I'll research the cast iron grill... -
Just a note.. Thank you Vicki, Hearing happy customers boast about their KK's and the food that comes out of them is an added plus that I'm really enjoying. Love the "Best Grill Out There" description too Just to clarify... Early production KK's had the problematic external straps like all the other ceramics. The torque from the self-opening springs could create leaks and cracks where the bolts went through the body. Strap alignment problems led to the the new design where the strap is cast in permanent position inside the body's material. The new hinge design put all the torque in one area. The precision positioning of the straps also fixed the alignment problems. And yes, all grills that tweaked, leaked or cracked were immediately replaced at no expense to the customer. Vicky, thank you so much for all your kind words.. It's great to be appreciated.. I'd love to see a shot of your grill

I 2 recommend using a grout sealer once a year... As I said in my FAQ under tile loss, I firmly believe that the secret is to maintain the integrity of the grout seal.. Especially in areas that drop below freezing. Grout can be used outside but the UV, hot, cold wind, sleet and snow will eventually cause deterioration. Remember they break down stone. With this in mind, I also recommend using a grout sealer once a year and watching for failures in the grout i.e.. cracks. An ounce of prevention...

Please excuse the legalese language but it's a sad reflection of the world we live in. What I'm basically trying to say is, that the grill is well built using quality materials with CARE. Please remember that you need to maintain your grill. Please inspect your grill a couple times a year to ensure the integrity of the acrylic jacket that is used as the adhesive and grout for the tiles. Keeping moisture out of the insulation is of utmost importance. Please monitor crazing/cracks and keep them filled with material supplied by KK. Limited Lifetime Warranty* Komodo Kamado grills are warranted for the life of the product as long as it remains in possession of the original purchaser and proof of purchase can be demonstrated. *This warranty covers all defects in the materials and workmanship of the grill's body and components. The word "defects", as used in this warranty, is defined as imperfections that impair the utility of the product. This warranty and does not apply to intentionally misused grills, or to damage resulting from negligence, exposure, rental or commercial use, improper cleaning, lack of maintenance/upkeep or other unreasonable uses. Not covered by the warranty is normal wear and tear (as reasonably determined by Komodo Kamado) and defined as "normal deterioration incurred by regular use of a grill." This warranty does not cover damage, loss, or other conditions beyond what the grill was designed for, negligence, misuse or abuse, improper installation or improper maintenance, acts of God such as: wind damage, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, fire, monsoons, typhoons, cyclones, and any other naturally caused events. In the unlikely event that a product has a defect, we require photos of the defect to determine the extent of the defect and the most efficient solution to resolving the problem. Photos should be emailed to [email protected] or be mailed to us for evaluation. If a grill component is defective within the terms of the warranty, Komodo Kamado will determine the method for repairing the defective component. No assembly labor is included for such repairs. Komodo Kamado shall replace parts found defective with equivalent parts and shall ship such parts at the purchaser's expense to the purchaser's shipping address. Replacements on discontinued models may require additional funding. Any refunds or credits given will use a 20-year depreciation schedule. Komodo Kamado insures all shipments and does not assume responsibility for any loss or damage incurred in shipping. But please note that this is an actual warranty... If a company says, "we guarantee a grill will never "burn out" or become brittle with use as the clay Kamados of old" that covers what exactly, the portland cement based body? and the rest of the cooker? Exactly my point... phuey..

Hello, I'm Dennis Linkletter designer and builder of Komodo Kamado, welcome to my forum. It's been a long road but I'm absolutely confidant that from a standpoint of quality of materials, construction and design, I build the best ceramic grill available. From the stainless damper top assembly to the German castors you'll find that every component and feature is the product of thoughtful design and no other grill can match my Komodo feature for feature. I hope that forum users will share ideas and be able to contribute to Komodo's ongoing evolution and development. Unlike the other forums which prohibit discussions about the competition, I want this forum to be truly pro ceramic, to welcome and promotes discussions about all ceramics and cooking on them... If you want to compare my KK cookers with the others, great bring it on...I've even included links to the all other manufacturers to help you do comparisons. I believe that all the ceramic grills fill a certain niche in the marketplace and have the ability to produce great food. I know that I could learn to be happy cooking on any of them.. it just would not be as easy, convenient or enjoyable as on my Komodo. I must admit I'm a bit lazy and I have designed my grills for ease of use and that many of my features are not necessary but a luxury. My cooker could be described as an unique shaped, extravagant, self-opening, extremely well insulated, tiled BGE with a lot of bells and whistles.. But remember food tastes great on them all.. I would like to ask that all posts be polite and please refrain from talking about politics and religion. If you're a diehard from a forum cult here to disturb and slander, please don't. If you like good people, great food, and ceramic cookers, you can and should register as a member of this forum. See above. So once again welcome to my forum, I hope that it becomes a great meeting place for friends as well a great resource. Dennis Linkletter Note: Images posted on the forum of KK cooks may be posted on Social media sites, if this is an issue for you please don't post them on this forum..
