  1. I have had a Weber gasser for many years before owning my current pellet smoker and KK. The gasser had CI grates and in our climate over here i didn't notice any rusty areas accept over parts where i never really cooked (usually the edges or far off to one side), so the CI was ok for me. It stayed nice and seasoned as well. However, once moving to my pellet smoker and KK setup which both have thick gauge SS, there is no turning back. SS is definitely the choice here. I can still get the same heat into the SS as i did on the CI and there is less cleanup. The SS you just heat up the Q to a high temp, then the crap left on it will carbonise and you just chip/scrape it off, job done. No need to leave it oiled or any other maintenance (from what i have found). So i personally think you will be very happy with the SS grates. The only other thing i have on my smoker is the grill grates. These are aluminium and they are awesome. The SS grates also give amazing sear marks as well. reverse sear the steak then sear on the SS grate and boom you have a killer looking steak. The thicker gauge that Dennis has on his grills makes a world of difference too. The SS will come up to temp a lot quick after you throw on a colder piece of meat than the thinner SS grills out there.
  2. Cheers thanks @MacKenzie. It was corrected really quickly which was nice. Thought to myself, let me see how the birds are going, went out and the bar that goes into the roti motor had unwound and the motor fell backwards on the bracket. Im like hmm that doesnt look good. Also there was a huge amount of smoke coming from the top of the KK too. Opened the lid and all 3 birds were stopped. Lucky they had only been on for like 20mins, so they were black on some parts but the cooked well through the rest of the cook. so dinner was saved im still amazed about a roti cook. It just gives the protein something extra with the taste than just indirect smoking. Love the taste that the charcoal imparts onto the protein on the turn. Also nice i dont have to crack out the big spit for a simple few birds. Cant wait to add in the new cold smoker to add more to the birds on the turn.
  3. @DennisLinkletter awesome mate. I am in for one of these too. Also @MacKenzie im with you on this with the straight rod attachment for the rotisserie. Cant wait to see the final product for that too. Ill also be adding to the order the straight single piece of bar that goes into the roti motor. I had a mishap last week when i spun a few chickens and as we spin the othe rway over here the loctite dissolved and the birds stopped spinning. Going to tac weld the piece this week to stop this.
  4. killer job mate. Have just used chickens to spin in mine, but you know what i should give this ago. nice job and thanks for sharing the pics
  5. Great job mate. hopefully many more to follow.
  6. Yeah mate living in good old Down Under. Lovely place. I agree with you about the Fosters. Its complete piss to drink!! i am not sure why they have it as our national exported beer, no-one i know drinks it as its terrible! I am ashamed for them to market it over seas as out national beer. ive had it once and its terrible. Id rather drink the VB (which is not great either) than Fosters. Haha. If you can get a Tooheys branded beer thats much better than the VB and Fosters. Shit i wouldn't even water my lawn with that Fosters rubbish! Howd your pizza turn out? I couldn't get the
  7. haha mate so true. the first time i used the leaf blower, dust went everywhere. haha. but you get to learn the trick after a few goes it is funny to see it for the first time though. the leaf blower is totally overkill. but fun to use
  8. Cheers thanks @CeramicChef much appreciated. Its easier to keep the forum rolling with continual updates rather than the once a year model. It also brings you guys all the new and nice features that IPS are working on. Appreciate the support in reporting issues if there are any. Thanks mate.
  9. Vote added. Excellent Poll @Cookie I've only done one brisket, so my answer may not be as accurate as the others, but done plenty of pork butts and they turn out wicked.
  10. Yeah im pretty sure @DennisLinkletter was working on a straight rod setup. Looking forward to that being released for times like this when you want to quickly get a few birds spun and not have too much cleanup after-woods. @Hephaestus great looking cook mate. Keep up the posting.
  11. Great write up there @ckreef. I have a set for my pellet smoker and i would not cook with out them on there. They are so versatile and do a great job over the naked fire i can get going in my pellet. After looking at you using them on your KK, i think its time to get me a set for my KK as well. They are an awesome idea and you will get lots of use out of them. They wont stay that colour for long mate
  12. @Gnomatic this is my trick too The leaf blower is just unbelievable at getting the fire ripping. Along with all the suggestions here, i just get the leaf blower and just let it idol sometimes and blow air onto the coals that have been lit in a few places. This gets the fire going and has more volume of air than a hair dryer. Be warned though all the left over dust just goes everywhere. So it may be wise to be wearing sunnies or glasses while doing this. It just gets the job done

  19. Ah that will do it. Right. I think we had some left over subscriptions from the old version that seems to have caught some users out. That is why they are most likely getting content subscriptions like you have. Im pretty sure it was from the older version of the board, but you can always check your subscriptions from your profile to see what threads and forums you have subscribed to. Im glad you have been able to find a solution to you issue mate. I appreciate you updating us. Cheers.
  20. ah bugger. Sorry @ckreef thought we may have nailed it there. Ill keep looking for you.

  22. hmm weird. ok thanks for the update @ckreef. This one may be hard to nail down. So just to get it right. 1. It only happens via tapatalk? 2. Does it happen if you use a full browser on a Mac or PC? Thanks for being patient mate.
  23. Hi All, I have upgraded the site to the latest stable release. Please post if you have any issues with the upgrade. This also has included an upgrade for the forum skin as well. So far there have been no issues i have noticed, but please like normal post a reply if you see any. Cheers
  24. No problems @ckreef. There is another upgrade i will complete later this evening and an update to the theme as well. So let me apply this and you can re-rest the issue. cheers.
  25. @ckreef thanks for posting about a potential problem. I am like @tony b and @cschaaf, i cant seem to replicate the issue. Have you tried a different browser to see if the issue happens there? I am using chrome and have no issues. Let me see if i can find a way to replicate this issue.
