  1. Dennis - I wasn't so sure that tile was something anyone would like but seeing the finished product has changed my mind!! Very nice!!!
  2. That is laughable! Not to mention, the pizza she removed from the oven and cut is NOT the one she put in and turned half-way. $2K - Holy Moly!! That would have to be some magic pizza!!
  3. Why not smoke that pork on the "upper/sear grill" and put your beans directly underneath the smoking meat on the main grill? This way, you will get smoke and lots of delicious drippings right into your beans! Good stuff! And, when you explain how you did it to your friends, they will envy you because they probably cannot do the same!
  4. I say keep 'em all!! What the heck, you already bought 'em and you never know when an occasion will come up to use any one of them!
  5. I tend to think so as it holds in the steam. It seems to me that the taters bake and steam at the same time when wrapped properly in the foil. Also, if there is a flare up, then the foil helps to protect the skin. I eat the whole tater when I am home as I am the one that scrubs 'em clean!
  6. Interesting observation Fetz - just out of curiosity, why remove the foil? I typically use it to cook the taters a bit faster and to hold on the butter and seasonings. What are your thoughts?
  7. Now hang on there doc... Nobody said you lied. I simply made the observation that you are becoming more comfortable with the concept of lying, that's all! Please know that outside of advice on how to cook something or get a fire started safely, most requests for advice will be met with answers that are intended to be more humorous. Some of us even branch into sarcasm now and again! Taking a peek at your hobbies, I see that a Komodo is in your near future. Ain't nothin' cheap about flying, fishing (typically, especially fly fishing), or golfing! Soon you can add "Backyard BBQ Master" to your list of hobbies! Welcome to the forum!
  8. With the statement above, I have already deduced that you are comfortable with the concept of lying. This is important and I commend you for not being so hard on yourself for not telling the truth all the time. Once you get over the guilt of it all, things become much easier! OK, good. So, Dennis has threads all the time about cookers stuck in garages, stuck in temporary storage, broken and needs fixed, etc. He sells these at great prices. You must lead your wife/spouse to believe that you are getting one of these "garage sale" Komodo's. Easy, eh? Now you have the cooker you want, the wife thinks it's a great bargain, may even brag on you to friends!, and life is good! Now, you will probably go to hell for following my advice. Heck, I may end up there for giving this advice but, my understanding is that we won't need Komodo's down there because the fire is always burning!!!!
  9. Nice work FM - That truly looks awesome!!!
  10. I'd recognize that vertical smoker anywhere Whiz - it's a GF 223 from Stump's Smokers! (I've got one in my backyard right now)
  11. Don't fret too much Dennis - they taught us which bugs to eat while I was in SERE school with the Navy (Google it) lol However, they never taught us how to "prepare" the insects. You just helped me to fill in the missing gap!

    K or KK

GeoQue, If you are like me, the only way you are going to be convinced to even consider this purchase is to go and look at a KK. That being said, I don't know an owner that wouldn't welcome you to their home and show you their KK. After that, contact Dennis either by PM or email. Wait until he gets back to you. After an exchange of emails, or even a phone call, it will be clear which way to go. I'll look forward to having you post pics of your first KK cook!
  13. Krusty K - I hear ya!! But before anyone jumps to conclusions, let me tell my tale... So, I have had the pleasure of cooking on a KK, a Caldera TallBoy, and finally a Stumps Smoker. I had each unit for at least a month and played with them all. At the end of the day this is what I found: 1) The KK does it all. Bake, Sear, Rotis, Grill, Low 'n Slow, Smoke, Make Jerkey (even roast coffee?!?!) - everything! And it is insulated so you can cook during the Northeastern winters. 2) The Tallboy Rocks. If you like Low 'n Slow, it will take care of you. Yes, you can grill and sear, but a bit of a pain as you have to lean down to do that work. No Rotis. Lastly, it is not insulated. You could cook in the winter, but you will use LOTS of fuel (without the insulated, heat-resistant cover that is). Lastly, LOTS of space in a Tall Boy. Definitely not a "single subject" cooker! 3) Stumps Smoker - Got this one right now. I have to hand it to Stump - this is the King of the set it and forget it. Easily get one hour of cooking per pound of fuel @ 250 or less. More if less. No reason for a Guru on this guy (new model GF-223) it just holds the temp for days. But - No grilling over hot coals - it's impossible as it is indirect cooking. No Rotis. Cooking in the winter - oh yeah - it is insulated like no one's business so you can cook whenever and wherever you like. This one has more room than any of the units I mentioned and is the choice for lots of guys on the competition BBQ circuit. So what is my point(s)? Simple - The most versatile cooker is the KK. Notice I did not say ceramics. The KK is the only unit that I am aware of that does the Rotis. The other units I mentioned will get you into the winner's circle - certainly. But if you want to replace your existing low 'n slow, replace your gas grill, and replace your rotis, the KK is it for backyard cooking. And because it is insulated (and sealed when shut) you can cook in virtually any outside temperature and get the same smokey results. No "flavored" pellets here! Whatever you go with - please have fun. This is a great forum and one that welcomes all! Thanks for your post!
  14. That does look quite tasty! No wonder it got ate so fast!!
  15. Bob - That's awesome! And you even know the company! lol Let me know if you need help with it! In the meantime... "You have TP for my bunghole?!?! heh heh! Bung Holeo!!!!
  16. For me, at the end of the day, I always feel better with the bone left in!!!
  17. Er,... I hope the other half is a LIGHT eater!! Nice looking steaks! Quite jealous...
  18. V2P TAP Well, since we are all geeking out here... If anyone is interested in bridging the "virtual" network with your physical network (so you don't have to buy everything twice!) PM me. My company builds a V2P Tap and right now it is FREE! Better hurry!
  19. What are the words heard most often just before a backyard tinkerer bites the big one? "Hold my beer - And watch THIS!"
  20. Nice work Bob!! Did you decide to go the mustard and then rub route? Also, did you make your own sauce?
  21. Oooops! Meant to ask if it were (is?) sold as an accessory, what would the price be for a Lower Grill? Thx!
  22. For those not using their Lower Grills, my brother brought up an interesting point today - He was cooking for large groups of people over the weekend and realized how nice a Lower Grill would be for cooking foil-wrapped potatoes and/or roasting corn on the cob while cooking on the Main Grill. Guess you could put the baked beans down there too! Anybody using the Lower Grill for cooking up sides?
  23. Toooo Sweeeet!!! That wider base is going to provide for two great features that I can think of immediately: 1) A better center of gravity. No chance of this guy tipping over! Very stable! 2) More FUEL!! Who doesn't want longer cooks?!?!?! Awesome work Dennis! I cannot wait to see a finished 19.5" OTB. These will be on apartment decks everywhere!!
